What Will Happen if US Government Does Not Invoke a Continuing Spending Resolution

"When you can't make them see the light - then you have to turn-up the heat" - Ronald Reagan

As the deadline approaches for our Congress to raise the debt ceiling - there may be many of you who might not realize what will happen in the event the Congress decides to not raise the national debt ceiling.

Having lived through this once before - I can tell you what will happen - as it did when Bill Clinton was our President.

First off - most of the non-essential classified federal workers will not be required to report to work. Officially - they will be classified as being temporarily laid off. Then - most of the non-essential federal workers jobs will be assumed by the privately employed sub-contractors - (i.e. Lockheed Martin, Grumman, etc).

During the federal workers layoff period - which could last from a day or two to several weeks - our Congress will try to negotiate a new budget. If they cannot hammer out a budget resolution - then they will in all likelihood temporarily raise the debt ceiling whereby thousands of federal agencies can spend up to what they did during the previous budget cycle.

Now here is the real kicker - and I hope to drive home for all legitimate working Americans to consider.

For all of the days that the Federal employees missed as a result of being temporarily laid off - they are going to be issued back-pay - guess what for - not working! At the same time - the private sector workforce - who have pulled their weight during this period - will not realize an extra dime for having to prop-up the bureaucratic quagmire.

You want to know how do I know this will happen - because I was one of those private sector employees who lived and experienced the same situation the last time it happened during the tenure of then President Bill Clinton. I have never forgotten it - and soon after - I tendered my resignation. I hope the rest of the nation catches-on to their ploy this time around and not to be fooled by your elected official's diversions.

I hope everyone who might be reading this will go to bed tonight and ponder what you have just read in preparation for your upcoming work week in the private sector.

As Thomas Jefferson once said;

"A little revolution every now and then is good for a democracy"

Don't you think it is high time for the private sector - ordinary citizens - to rise up and now protest.

This is exactly why our country is in the sh*t hole... the govt employees get paid to not work also...

There is nothing that can be done about this... We can not make anyone in our govt pass or not pass laws or budgets period... So either way you look at it, were screwed...

They don't work, they get paid;
They work, they get paid;
They can't pass a budget, they get paid and they raise the ceiling and put us in a deeper hole...

Yeah isn't our country so great...

Oh just a side note, if you were to leave to move to another country, Our govt can tax your income or savings for up to 10 years after you leave... so leaving for a better place, if there is one, you still get crapped on...

Maybe one day we can actually work towards fixing problems instead of all the gray area BS...

When we did that under Bush, protesting hundreds of billions of tax dollars going into an unneeded war against Iraq, we were told by the Bush Regime to "watch what you say" and we were called traitors. People were arrested for having t-shirts that asked how many had been killed in Iraq while standing by a motorcade route for Pres. Bush. Free speech? Not with a Republican president.

But now, of course, we need the people to rise up and revolt. Nice timing, guys. Those opposed should be arrested when a Republican is in charge, but armed revolt's an option when a Democrat is President. Gee, hypocritical much?

I believe you have missed the whole point. It doesn't matter if you are a democrat, republican, libertarian, communist, etc. - the point that Rick is trying to make is that the federal workers will make out like a bandit - irregardless of what happens with the budget.

'They will get paid for working, and, for not working' at the taxpayers expense' while the private sector is being discriminated against.

And besides the fact that they will get paid--one of the involved parties, I think it was the republican side, said that people who get social security checks will not be getting their checks when this happens. That would really make it nice. Federal people will get paid and senior citizens will not. I didn't notice them mentioning welfare benefits not getting paid or unemployment not getting paid. I don't know if this will truly happen or if they were just saying it to get people pissed off at the democrats but it certainly seems pretty unfair if it does occur. Seniors paid that money in--it is not just an entitlement program.
