Smoking At Towson University Will Cost You $75

TOWSON, Md, - Lighting up a smoke on the campus of Towson University can earn you a $75 fine.

Towson, Maryland' second-largest public university, is one of the first universities in the region to order a campuswide ban on smoking, The Washington Post reports.

Similar bans are gaining support on campuses across the country.

Some schools are trying to balance the rights of smokers and nonsmokers.

The Universities of Maryland and Virginia both allow campus smoking, but away from building entrances, windows and air ducts.

Should do the same for anyone with a BMI > 25 as obesity is the cause of more health related dangers and expenses than smoking. If you are going to control people's lives, focus on the things that are most critical first, not just the one;s that are popular to criticize.

SU has had a campus-wide smoking ban in place since August 2010.

Smoking directly affects the health of those near you.. That's why they're taking it out. I HATE the smell of second hand smoke and if its thick enough I get a headache from it. It's disgusting. I choose not to smoke and I don't want my lungs affected by another's poor decision.

I am a smoker and agree with the indoor smoking ban, however, I make a habit to smoke on SU's and PRMC's premesis everytime I am there. Who are they to tell me I can not smoke outside? Of course 2:14, I suppose you prefer to smell the exhaust of the vehicle in front of you at the red light that looks like it is spraying for mosquitos. Let's face it, smoking outdoors NEVER gets thick enough to give you a headache. Stop trying to impose your will on others.

Salisbury University still allows smoking on campus. Students and employees light up everyday all along Camden Ave. while standing or sitting on the sidewalk or lawn; both of which are part of the campus. Sometimes they're in groups of five or six. Why does the administration turn a blind eye to this?

It's all good until the powers that be focus on something you like to do. If they take a freedom away from one of us thy take it from all of us.

I am a TU graduate and I completely support this action.

4:02 you need to get real smoking is something that has to go. The car exhaust analogy does not fly as people dont park their cars 3 feet from entrances to buildings that others go in and out of and when im in my car i dont smell the car in front of me. Quit stinking up areas where others have to walk and maybe us non smokers will cut you some slack until then shut up and smoke that stinking disgusting thing at least 50ft from anywhere people have to walk

9:39 - Get a grip on reality. I agree with the not smoking immediate entrances/exits. I was referring to general smoking outdoors. See the problem with your type of mentality is that you look for the worst in everything. I will bet dollars to pesos that you are a Democrat. So, what you are saying is it doesn't matter what you think or do, it is only your opinion that counts...now you STFU and realize that the extremes are not the answers. The real answer is compromise. And apparently you don't drive too often because it is very difficult to get through Salisbury without smelling the exhaust of other vehicles. If you want to see something really interesting, take a flight into a major metro area during the day and look at the haze as you approach. I will give you a clue...the orange haze isn't cigarette smoke.
