'Homeland Security' Sending Officers To Secure Afghan-Pakistan Border

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security, which by its own admission has thus far failed to control even half of America's nearly 2,000-mile-long border with Mexico, is now sending personnel to Afghanistan to help that country secure its border with Pakistan.

On a New Year’s visit to Afghanistan, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said there are now 25 Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CPB) personnel on the ground in Afghanistan. That number could reach 65 or more by the end of 2011, she said.

“We’re going to contribute numbers,” Napolitano said, in explaining her department’s role in helping Afghanistan transition from military to civilian control.

Napolitano said she hoped to leave Afghanistan with an appreciation of what “skill sets” are most needed there – “and to make sure that’s included in the next wave of individuals that we (Department of Homeland Security) send over.”

In July 2002, when the George W. Bush White House released the first national strategy for the Department of Homeland Security, it identified the new agency’s three objectives as preventing terrorist attacks within the United States; reducing America’s vulnerability to terrorism; and minimizing the damage from attacks that do occur.

When asked by CNSNews.com if ICE and CBP personnel have been deployed elsewhere in the world to help secure borders, a DHS spokesperson said that they had, but that security issues prevented the department from providing details on those deployments. Such secrecy apparently does not extend to the deployments of CPB and ICE personnel to Afghanistan, however.

The DHS spokesperson did not respond to questions about what posts CBP and ICE personnel would be pulled from in order to go to Afghanistan. Nor did the spokesperson say what expertise the Homeland Security Department could provide that NATO and U.S. military forces could not provide.

At her Jan. 1 news conference, however, Napolitano said that some of the advice provided by U.S. border security and customs personnel is “very practical in nature.” She gave some examples: “How do you arrange in-bound versus out-bound lanes?  How do you make sure that you can check trucks?  How do you employ the right kind of equipment in the right way?”

And we pay taxes for this nonsense? A hundred thousand people crossed (illegally) the Mexican border within the last 30 days and we couldn't and didn't stop them, but now we are sending "homeland" security to someone else's "homeland" to show them how to secure their borders???? Its a wonder they didn't say, "thanks, but no thanks ---we see how good your officers are doing in the U.S." A total, absolute, an unequivocal JOKE. Just pay your taxes and shut the hell up.

What about Arizona & Texas? It's not safe to go within 60 miles of the Mexican border in our own country.Wow!What idiots we have running this country.

1:57pm You don't the point. It is very simple they are being made by our Gov. to exceed their authority given to them, the Agency, by law. They also cannot protect the US but you send them to foriegn countries that you are b******* about sending US Military Troops to fight in. You bunch of Progressive / Liberals need to make up your mind on what you want. OOPS! I forgot again this is what you Progressive / Liberals want. When you send our personnel out of the Country we will be overrun by the illegals and terrorist. This will also give them time to get established and totally destroy the US without a major war. Just true Americans giving their lives trying to save the US and give you and your demented friends and beliefs a platform to violate the US Constitution. You and others would not be so aggressive in change in any other Country. If so go there and prove me wrong and while you are there post on this blog your progress. OOPS! Again I forgot you would not have internet in their prisons.

Yea well, that's because Homeland Security was heading up and arrested that pesky group in Georetown Delaware last week. The three hard core criminals were apparently conducting a terroristic threatening prostitution ring consisting of 3 illegal mexicans, that only Homeland Security could handle. Not the Georgetown police, not the Delaware State Police, but Mr. Big Shot Homeland Security. What a joke, 3 mexicans making a hustle for sex and Homeland Security nailed em cold. Wasted tax dollars. Send every Homeland Security agent you've got, over to Afghanistan, give everone of them a gun and send them out to the front lines, and while your at it take those soft porn rapests, pissing away their time and American tax dollars at the airports too. Waste, waste, waste!

It's probably too late for you idiots to see this post, but maybe you should be aware that ICE/Homeland Security has been operating in Iraq and Afghanistan for year. So I guess Bush was a "complete idiot and will destroy this country . Commander and Chief , what a joke!" Either that or you guys are hypocrites or just lazy when it comes to researching the facts. Probably a bit of both

The point, to me, is NOT whether it was Bush, or Obama, or your grandma, who thought we should have ICE/Homeland security in Afghanistan or Iraq. The POINT is why are those people even there? Have our leaders (please don't laugh at the term) lost their mind? We have the CIA, Homeland Security, ICE, the DEA, the FBI, Customs, the Marines, Special Forces, the Air Force, the Army, the NRO (plus all the NATO groups) and who knows what other "forces" in this backward ass country and what are they accomplishing? Other than dying needlessly? Afghanistan (and Iraq, for that matter) is no safer or freer than they were 10 years ago. And the poster who naively said if we don't like it, run for President....LOL!!! Are you serious? Or just plain stupid? 99% of Americans DON"T have the money or connections to run for a STATE office, even if they wanted to. The Presidency? Might as well tell them to become an astronaut if they don't like the looks of the night sky.
