Over the past few days I have been exhausting my resources to do something very special this year for Christmas. In what seemed like a simple task, I came to learn that simple tasks can sometimes be the most difficult. With a company like Perdue in this town, do you happen to know just how difficult it is to get a large volume of Turkeys this time of year. Well, IT IS!
That being said, with the help of many friends and business associates I am honored to announce that the Advertisers of Salisbury News have made it possible to secure and donate 300 Turkeys, (14 lb average) to those NEEDY Families here on the Shore.
Salisbury News has partnered with Pohanka Automotive who will provide their brand new Dealership location on Rt. 13 to distribute these Turkeys this Thursday evening from 5 to 7 PM. This will be a First Come, First Served thing. Look, we just don't know what to expect. We have contacted local food banks to spread the word and other people we know could get the word out.
I want to express, while we have spent quite a bit of money to purchase this kind of volume of Turkeys, we're doing so to help those who really need it most. I want to make sure everyone knows we will provide one Turkey per Family in need.
We know there are at least 300 Families here on the Shore that need a decent Christmas Dinner. Please respect this generous offer and in the spirit of giving we would like to meet the need of those Families truly in need.

AWESOME! SIMPLY AWESOME! Are you accepting volunteer helpers, Santa? Perhaps we can spark up a canned food drive to accompany your Turkey drive? Turkeys are great and all, but we could give those people in need a full Christmas dinner to enjoy! Let's do the whole shebang!
Please folks, don't take advantage of this if you don't NEED it. We have many families that could use a Merry Christmas and sometimes all that means is a good meal.
To those who aren't in need, be thankful for that. Don't forget to help people this holiday season and thank a Veteran and those currently serving to protect us!

Believe it or not Folks, when we researched this we came to learn the biggest request for help this year is from MIDDLE INCOME Families. Times are that tough.
Please help spread the word to ALL of your friends. I have reached out to every Police Officer and Firefighter connection I have as they know who some of these Families are.
IF there are any Turkeys left over I'd like to welcome every single Salvation Army Bell Ringer Volunteer who has stood in this cole weather to please join us after 7 PM to get a free Turkey. With any hope we'll run out of the 300 by 6 PM but if not, we have plenty of people to be thankful for this year and not a single Turkey will go to waste.

There is no doubt it is middle class families. Unfortunately middle class families do not qualify for traditional assistance. Even though the income is slightly higher, the monthly expenses are much higher so those families are the ones that are often times left in the worst situation when times are hard.
I keep saying we are already blessed because we still have our home, electric/heat, and vehicles. There are many many families that lost all of that. We all need to care about each other, times are tough and will get tougher before they get better.
Much love to every one out there that is helping in some way or another. Making dinner for neighbors, starting clothing drives, donating to charities, or just simply listening when someone needs an ear and a shoulder to lean on. Everyone can make a difference.

For some reason, this does not surprise me at all. I knew Mr. Joe would come up with something to help the less fortunate in one way or another at Christmas. He has already been my family's personal angel recently. It was one of his Pay it Forward gestures which he spoke about in other posts that many will never know about. Keep an eye on your mailbox Mr. Joe. We were late with Thank you notes due to the flu bug but I insisted that your's was the first one to be sent out.

Joe, Many people simply do not know that you take the money from advertising and spend it on special functions like this. I for one am extremely grateful that you do something like this for the community. Way to go Joe!
