At 8:30 AM this morning Matt Maciarello was sworn in as a part time Deputy States Attorney by the honorable Judge Beckstead.
Matt Maciarello and Davis Ruark want to tackle things head on, right away. Many do not understand just how complicated this position is, especially during a transition such as this.
One way they can help each other is by making this move so one can concentrate on the cases at hand and the other can work on managing the finances and case load.
Davis Ruark has proven to be a complete gentleman in the election process and now in the transition process. Most others would leave the office in spite but Davis is a class act and wants to make sure, (especially for his Staff) that all goes well and Matt knows what he's up against.
Matt stated at this moment the most important thing he needs to do is to concentrate on his partnership in his Law Firm for this transition. He will work nights and weekends for the States Attorneys Office.
The Court Room was completely filled with Law Enforcement Officers, Lawyers, friends and family as well as concerned citizens. Tommy & Jennifer Foxwell were also in attendance to congratulate Matt. It was a very pleasant event.

Congrats Matt! Please do your job as an "independent DA", upholding the law. Independent of the Officers who arrest and the court that sentences. We need the system to work as it is intended. Don't buddy up with one or the other. Be fair in your prosecutions to both victims and offenders. Evaluate the charges brought up against offenders and prosecute fairly, keeping victims in mind in the process. Make your points before the Judge to the best of your ability and the rest is up to the judge and/or jury for the decision and sentence. I wish you the best and look forward to the expected results.
11:31 I hate to burst your bubble but as long as we have the same judges we will have the same ole results. When Judge Simpson retired we lost our only hope for truth in sentencing.

I don't understand the negative comments towards the judges here in Wicomico County, The Circuit Court judges are by far the toughest in the area. go to another county and here their stories. District court, judge Davis stop talking so much and rule more. Judge Wade and Mumford, thanks for your tough effort.
Davis is one class act. I believe that people are starting to realize how great a loss he will be to Wicomico County as of January 3, 2011. His departure will result in a loss of 25 years of experience in prosecutions. Coupled with the loss of Sam, the State's Attorney office is losing 50 plus years of experience. It is a huge loss to all of us, including Matt. God Bless You Davis - you deserve the very best in the future. You were the victim of politics at its very worst, and you stayed clean in your all of your comments and presentations. I know you're thinking of leaving Wicomico County, but please consider private practice here. You will have my legal business and do very, very well financially! I am sure of it! Stay, Davis, Stay!
