On November 12, 2010, Ocean City Police responded to Duffy’s Tavern located on 12923 Coastal Highway, in reference to a disorderly male who had damaged tavern property.
Police spoke to employees of Duffy’s Tavern and determined that earlier in the evening a male later identified as Matthew William Gruber, 26, of Ocean City, had been at the establishment and became intoxicated. Duffy’s Tavern management asked Gruber to leave, however, he kept returning.
Eventually management removed Gruber. Later that evening Gruber was seen behind the establishment near a refrigeration unit that had been damaged.
During the same evening police located Gruber nearby in the Montego Bay area. Police attempted to arrest Gruber for malicious destruction of property for the damage at Duffy’s Tavern. Gruber resisted arrest and assaulted two police officers.
At the time of his arrest Gruber was charged with:
• Two counts of 2nd degree assault on police officers.
• Malicious destruction of property.
• Resisting arrest.
On November 13, 2010, police responded to the Montego Bay Trailer Park, in reference to several damaged sidewalk light posts, which are owned by the Montego Bay Association. The investigation revealed that during the evening of November 12, 2010, prior to Gruber’s arrest, he
allegedly damaged these light posts. Police have charged Gruber with these acts of malicious destruction as well.
Gruber was seen by an Ocean City District Court Judge and was held on $10,000 bond. Gruber has been transferred to the Worcester County Jail.
