Montgomery County Dog Parks No Longer Free

It seems nothing comes free these days. In Montgomery County, that even means playing with your dog.

Starting Aug. 1, permits will be required for anyone who uses a Montgomery County dog park. The permit will cost $40 and will be good for one year. For each additional dog, the cost is $5.

Once a dog owner applies for a permit, they will receive a colored dog tag, which must be attached to their dog's collar. Park Police can fine any pet owner who doesn't have a colored tag.

I wonder how many Park Police (at 45,00+ per year) are going to be assigned to watch out for (oh no!! OH NO!!!) dogs without tags?? LOL! And they have guns too, but for exactly what purpose?? In case the dogs jump in a car and don't put their seat belt on??? LOL!! I bet the fines are ASTRONOMICAL for citizens whose taxes built the park, but have to pay a fee to use it and a fine for not using it properly....and also pay for the police to make sure they are in compliance....protect and serve, baby...keep telling us that...

Montgomery County has among the nation's harshest leash laws ($500 penalty -- no warning). Building these dog parks provided the only public place in Montgomery County for dogs to run together.

Now this permit policy will cut their use considerable by those not interested in the hassle or costs (not to mention the inability of drop-in by county visitors).

Clearly, this idea comes from the same group that though removing trash cans from parks would be a great way to solve the garbage problem (until the mountains of liter forced them to bring back the cans).
