A Comment Worthy Of A Post
"Yep. Those volunteers are on it. Especially at the fire palace! Campbell said they had been assured the volunteers would respond and cover the paid crews furloughs. NOT! At least not there! Earlier today they couldn't even get an engine out to help with a priority patient. The chief in charge left his vehicle at the scene and helped the ambulance guys with a patient and then drove the ambulance to the hospital. And while he was doing that he managed to handle a bunch of other calls at the same time. Someone gave him a little help but it was after the fact. No piece left station 16. I heard it on my scanner and I don't know who the guy was but he did a good job under trying conditions. I don't think we need an all paid department, but those guys ran about 10 calls in about half an hour and they sure earn their money when they have to. Both sides need to get along and realize they need each other. The city should take care of them."

Thank God for volunteers.
actually a piece did leave station 16 it just never went on the air. We had a crew but because the A/C said they were scooping and going we didn't put an engine on the street. Utility 16 went and picked up the A/C buggy. Its not the volunteers fault it takes 5 mins to get back to the station no matter where u live.
Well then how come you didn't cover ANY of the other 3 ambulance calls going on at the exact same time? There are 2 back up ambulances at that station just for this reason. Delmar and Fruitland had to come into the city and cover the calls because all the career guys were committed on calls. Step up and protect the citizens of the city you were sworn to protect and stop picking your calls! Can you imagine if the career people did that?

Thank God for volunteers??
When I think of volunteers useless names like Kenny Gaskins comes to mind. He is nothing more than a lazy idiot that only wants to drive an ambulance and has never done patient care in the back of the ambulance in his life. He is not a firefighter and he is afraid of fire. He as attempted to take the Fire Pumps class for times and has FAILED it four times. He was hoping to become a driver of the fire truck so that he would be able to drive and not go into an actual fire. He has been in the Salisbury Fire Department for quite some time now and has accomplished nothing. His notoriety is starting trouble and playing the race card. If this is the type of volunteer you are thanking God for than I must say you have lost your marbles.
They would be ummmmmmmm....FIRED!!!
I dont blame the vols, who wants to do ems thats stuff sucks.
No doubt Rat will be griped at for doing what he had to do. He will probably get in trouble for calling for help to. Those two aholes will get on him for doing good job but let the volunteer officers that really don't do anything keep there positions and others (Little Gordo) get away with anything he wants. He may get suspended but he will just do what he wants again when that's over!
The volunteers dont get out more than they do. Several show up and mark Fire House on the paper to get their percentage. Its funny when the vollies at Station 1 call the AC to let them know they can cover a call in 16s district when 16 vollies scratch and then a certian volly from 16 calls the AC and tells him he watch what he does when allowing the station 1 vollies to cover. Its all about customer service you idiots.
When I think of or reference Volunteers I dont even consider the ones in Salisbury part of the equation. They are and in breed of their own.

I agree with you, Gaskins, Batadorf, Pat Davis, Big Gordo and Little Gordo, Corron, Doug Hampshire, K. Walbert. Totally useless!
C'mon, they can't be totally useless. Can't they make coffee, wash dishes or the vehicles, or something? ;)
Dan Townsend helped at the fuitlnad accident and he is a volunteer lt. at st1. on his own time he was in the area and helped.
