Maryland Citizens Face Felony Charges For Recording Cops

In Maryland, it is a felony to record thuggish cops as they push around skateboarding teenagers, beat sports patrons, and pull guns on motorists for speeding.

“Several Marylanders face felony charges for recording their arrests on camera, and others have been intimidated to shut their cameras off,” reports WJZ 23 in Baltimore.

Maryland cops are using a Maryland law that states conversations in private cannot be recorded without the consent of both people involved in order to go about their business of harassing, intimidating, and assaulting citizens.

It is legal according to Maryland’s attorney general for cops to videotape citizens with dashcams but illegal for citizens to do the same.

State authorities are upset after a video appeared on the internet showing the merciless beating of a university student by thug cops at the University of Maryland in April.

In 2009, a video surfaced showing a Baltimore cop pushing around and verbally assaulting a teenager. Numerous videos in other states show cops beating and even murdering citizens.

How can this be?!! This is tyranny in it's purest form. Of course, it will continue because we have become like sheep. Completely apathetic. Enphasis on the last three syllables.

My issue with citizens videotaping cops is the video is often times editing down before being show shown publically to do the best job possible in inflaming the viewers. And the citizens aren't required to release all the footage they may have recorded under the Freedom of Information Act as footage taken by onboard cameras in police cars are.

Wow, I bet the gangbangers, crack heads, and scum suckers love this story. Hell, all we need is Al Sharpton saying it's racialy motivated and have President Barry "O" get on the news and say how dumb cops are, then we have a great story.

Unfortunately our attorney general is out of touch with reality and makes up the laws as he goes along. I can't believe he thinks it's OK for the cops not to abide by the same laws that citizens have to. He also refused to prosecute ACORN. That man needs to be replaced.

This article is a tad misleading. It is NOT illegal to record officers as long as they are told they are being recorded or as long as no AUDIO is included; officers must ALSO inform citizens that they are being recorded when AUDIO is included--otherwise it is a violation of Maryland's two-part consent wiretap law.

Cops are allowed to do it on traffic stops because THE LAW SAYS SO, it's specifically written stating they can as long as they tell you. Get a grip people

This is a prime example of how those in postions of authority, act, operate and feel that they are above the law. That is exactly what the NAZI SS thought.

Sic Symper Tyranis!

Anon 10:38am........stop being a sheep and be a part of the solution. Then again since you don't put your name to your post.....Maybe you to are one whom feels your authority places you above the law!

Should only cops be able to carry a firearm for defensive purposes? Anyone on the blog tried to get a concealed weapon permit in MD?

This is government over-reach. Filming your own arrest should not only be allowed, it should be encouraged. No clean cop following procedure would have anything to lose by being recorded.
