BP-Gate: 34 Days And Obama Still Lets Oil Giant Run Show

The U.S. government threatened to remove BP from efforts to seal a blown-out oil well in the Gulf of Mexico if it doesn't do enough to stop the leak, though it acknowledged only the company and the oil industry have the know-how to halt the deepwater spill.

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said on Sunday Washington is frustrated and angry that BP missed "deadline after deadline" in its efforts to seal the well more than a month after an oil rig explosion triggered the disaster.

"I am angry and I am frustrated that BP has been unable to stop this oil from leaking and to stop the pollution from spreading. We are 33 days into this effort and deadline after deadline has been missed," Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said after visiting BP's U.S. headquarters in Houston.

"If we find they're not doing what they're supposed to be doing, we'll push them out of the way appropriately," he told reporters as the administration maintained its hard line.

The chief of the Coast Guard, Admiral Thad Allen, acknowledged on Sunday that the government is forced to rely on BP and the private oil sector to try to plug the gusher. At the same time, BP said the containment method it was attempting on the ocean floor was capturing much less of the leaking oil than three days ago.

Obama does not let the Oil Giant run the show.

The large corporations (like BP and the banks like Goldmann Sachs) chose Obama to be the U.S. President. They "let" him be the President.

Wake up and smell the facism!

He works for them not the other way around.

BP's single largest political donation in the past 20 years went to Barack Obama.

This whole thing was a pre-planned 'event' by our government...do not be fooled. Just a way so that they are assured off-shore drilling DOES NOT happen. Our shorelines, beaches, water life and businesses that rely on these are all the main victims...the rest of us to follow.

If the leftwing democrats didn't force the oil companies offshore this would have never happened !

Can we all stop figuring out who to blame for a bit and just stop the damn leak and clean up the oil? We have watched an entire month of finger-pointing, promises, backtracking, and failures. If we put as much effort into stopping the leak and cleaning up this mess as we have in shifting the money around, we could have stopped this a while ago.

Republicans, Democrats, Lawyers, Executives, etc: Shut up and stop the leak! There will be plenty of time to figure out who to send teh bill to.

And we're still being lied to according to a CBS News story on the news Tuesday evening. They had film from underwater cameras that showed that the pipe they've inserted really has not slowed down the flow at all. Just the opposite of what BP told everyone.
I don't understand why they can't take the pipe that broke and is laying bent over and re-weld it.
Now, I'm not a welder and I'm not an engineer but maybe it's just that easy?
It doesn't seem to me that BP has ANY interest in stopping this flow of oil and this DISASTER!
It has been years since I patronized any station that sells Exxon because of what Exxon did in the past. You can bet that I will no longer patronize any business that I'm aware has any dealings with BP either!
Everyone needs to boycott these businesses forever for causing everlasting damage to our shores and waterways!

125pm

oil and flames (welding) wouldnt be too safe for the welders. then again, not sure if they have machine (robot) welders tho.

I understand that the repair is hampered more by the depth in the ocean than by a lack of ideas like welding it shut, cementing it over, etc.

There were obviously no pre-ordained methods established for dealing with this type of problem. Why not? The oil companies simply don't care. They want money and want it to come easily to them - at all costs to the environment.

They obviously welded the pipes down there in the first place, so why can't they do it now?

They welded the pipes on land and then lowered them into place.

So if Obama steps in and takes control, you guys scream "socialist government takeover". Allow BP to cleanup, and you say he's not doing anything. Who knows best how to stop this spill besides an oil company? I guess Uncle Sam is now the answer.

It's George's fault!

7:39 Your the typical idiot who wrongfully blamed Bush for Katrina .

7:39am, I'm guessing you meant 5:41am. But just for the record, the Katrina foul up was due to Bush placing a political lacky with no credentials in charge of FEMA, who then F-ed up, along with the LA gov., NO mayor, and the dummies who didn't stock basic supplies like water to last for 3 days minimum.
