ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Martin O’Malley will join Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger, County Executive Jim Smith, Comptroller Peter Franchot, members of the Maryland General Assembly and others for the groundbreaking of a new expansion at the Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center today. The O’Malley-Brown Administration invested a total of $50 million for the project, which will include a nine-floor trauma / critical care building to significantly expand the Center.
The construction phase of the project is expected to generate approximately 300 jobs, and the University of Maryland Medical Center expects another 250 employees to be added to staff the expanded areas when the project completes.
