SHOREBIRDS GAME NOTES: 4/20 vs. Greensboro

PREVIEW: Following a walk off win on Monday night, the Shorebirds begin a four-game series with the Grasshoppers tonight. T.J. Baxter scored the winning run on a wild pitch by Glenn Gibson. The ‘Birds are tied for first place in the Northern Division with the Lakewood BlueClaws. The Shorebirds took three of four games from the Grasshoppers at NewBridge Bank Park (4/12-4/15).

BONUS BASEBALL: The Shorebirds have gone into extra innings in back-to-back games for the first time since the 2008 season. On July 31st, they played a 13-inning game against Kannapolis (L, 5-6) and on August 1st, the two teams played 10-innings (W, 4-3).

BAXTER LEADS LEAGUE: T.J. Baxter scored his league leading 14th run of the season last night to give the ‘Birds a walk off win. He has scored at least one run in 11 of the 12 games this season.

14TH FIRST ROUNDER: Matt Hobgood is the 14th Expos/Orioles first round selection to suit up for the Delmarva Shorebirds and first since Billy Rowell (1st round pick in 2006). The following first rounders have played for Delmarva; Chris Schwab, Michael Barrett, Darnell McDonald, Jayson Werth, Rick Elder, Mike Paradis, Larry Bigbie, Keith Reed, Chris Smith, Adam Loewen, Nick Markakis, Brandon Snyder and Billy Rowell.

24 GAMES IN 24 DAYS: The Shorebirds open the 2010 season with 24 games in 24 days. The first off day of the season isn’t until May 2nd. The Shorebirds also have a stretch from early May into June where they play on 28 straight days.

I actualy did an un-assisted triple play once. I was playing shortstop and I caught a diving line drive and snagged her. I got up tagged the base runner on second who had that (deer in the head lights look) he was off the base by six feet and the runner on first was kickin to second with utter disregaurd and I tagged him to. 1978.(Your out,Your out, Your out to.) I cherish the days when the game was a part of my life. Who the heck wants to talk to me,"if you dare"...
