So, as a County employee, I have to wonder why we learn about Rick Pollitt's
decision of layoffs (which we figured was next) via the Daily Times... Shouldn't
the PIO address this with employees first? Why do we, the employees, continually
learn of our fate by the news outlets? Clearly there is no need for a PIO, as he
doesn't address most issues, public or otherwise...

At last nights meeting Rick Pollitt made it very clear that he wasn't going eliminate his friends position. Rick Pollitt had the job lined up for the PIO when he took office.
Rick Pollitt also created an assistant county administror position which should have been eliminated. He put a person in the position that wasn't qualified for the position. She was nothing more than a secretary without credentials. How many secretaries are in the county office now? I say get rid of the PIO and the Asst. County Administrator or impeach Pollitt.
It is surly time to eliminate many of these High-Pay jobs, such as Pollitt,Cramer & on down the line! They are not needed in the first place, never were!
Pollitt is a real gentleman----but he's not needed nor is anyone else to fill his "slot."
Taxpayers had better start standing up to what is happening in this town within its' Goverment, or it's gonna be to late to grumble.
All right lets lay off forty people. Yea that will fix it all. Then we can sell the forty homes foreclosed on. Replace the forty famlies that will leave here. Then the forty transient familes can move into the rental homes created. Wow pure genius. Maybe open ten more fast food chains and strip malls with hair weaves joints and chinese food. Get a couple more middle eartern stop shops. Pure genius. The crew at the land fill had the most lucrative business in town for two years. It's the layoff teachers and public safety people straight out of the Democratic "playbook". Kinda like tossing chum out of the boat to see what bites. In the end, as you've seen with the Governor, unfilled jobs are the positions eliminated. Why? Because County employees are voters too.
This was a blanket statement and I doubt that he was talking specifically to certain people. When people are laid off, I am sure you will be called in.
BTW...maybe you should have been there last night to voice your question/concerns instead on hiding behind the blog.
I thought Mr. Pollitt did an excellent job.
I say start right at the top with any lay-offs/cleaning house.... Pollitt and 4 or 5 of his buds, that will save more than laying off 15 workers which we need in the trenches. We dont NEED Pollitt and his closet band, we're getting NO return for our money since his band's been playing. It's been a bad investment, a losing proposition....lets cut our losses while we can.
Aside from trimming back an over bloated government, what Wicomico County needs is private sector JOBS! Maryland has lost over 3,000 small businesses in the last year. Many have left Wicomico County. On top of that the state and the EPA is choking off the poultry industry, while Wicomico continues to buy off land and deplete the tax base. How do we do this? We give incentives for small business and manufacturing to come to Wicomico County. It's the only way out!
Pollitt has ruined this county.
Pollitt is trying to stir up support to overturn the tax cap, by hitting where people will feel sorry.
Well, I don't feel sorry. The board of education is the most bloated thing in the county and could easily lose $10,000,000.00 and never miss it. Time to cut the fat in the right place.
The caps stays. Teachers salaries go down. Administration gets people laid off permenantly.
Our new slogan: "Wicomico County, home of gravel roads and a third-world education!"
Obviously the PIO's job is to speak with the press, not with you.
Pollitt better not think of returning to Fruitland. We don't want you!

Most democrats have ruined this country. The only thing they have going for them is to blame it on Bush!!
Last night at the meeting it was suggested to get rid of the two at-large council members. It was also suggest to have an elected Board of Education instead of an appointed one.
I disagree with both suggestions.
We should not get rid of the two at large council members. Instead we should get rid of the entire Executive Branch and go back to the way we were with the council being both Executive & Legislative.
we could save a lot of money with that action alone.
An elected school board...no, we should advocate to get rid of that board all together and have the administration report directly to their funding source...the county council.
I can't believe the president of the BOE, Mark Thompson, stood in front of everyone and told them to "shut up" if they didn't have a solution to the money problems. Is he living in another country. It's called freedom of speech here,even if you don't like what is said. He needs to step down off the BOE. Let's see who has the guts to ask for his resignation immediately.
Right Coast, while I agree that there are some Government positions that can be trimmed, the positions trimmed will not be "the fat". It will be the employees living paycheck to paycheck that are barely making it now.
Al in Fenwick, I wish the positions cut were going to just be vacant positons, but I don't think that is the case.
Lets just hope that they are done in accordance to the Personnel Manual and not just make up the rules as they go. The employees should be given as much notice as possible. They know now who they are going to be, but are they telling? Once again. Communication.
6:30, do you know what happens to employees that openly speak out? It is called retaliation. It is alive and well in Wicomico County. Believe that.

I am sorry for the people that are going to lose their jobs. I have been there, I really have, but what all of those that work for the county and are being laid off have to realize is that the people that work in the offices are not your friends.
All of you front line employees are being used like two bit street walking labor by those at the top. Those in control in this State and this County, as well as the board of Ed. have decided to throw you to the curb. These highly paid office management lackey politicians are using the frontline employees as fodder to try to put the hurt on the taxpayers so they can get a fat raise and build a new library or buy a new parking lot with your money. Those decisions aren't "Bushes" fault, it's not Obama's fault, it the fault of people like Rick P. and John F. It's the fault of O'malley and Kratovil, those people care about one thing and one thing only. They want more money to build their empires and they will use what ever means is available to them. What they control is YOU the front line county and state/government employee. When are you people going to realize that these democrats are not your friends? They will sell the hard working employee down the river. They want that next raise, they want the next bump in retirement, and they want another assistant to do their bidding. But the most important thing of all is they want to be re-elected! The sad fact is that they will screw the county employee to get it.
It's this simple people, in the next election, vote Rick Pollitt out, vote Shanie Shields out, vote Frank Kratovil out, and vote Martin O'Malley out.
Make these politicains feel the same pain that you and your family have felt. You will hear them say that "OH OH !!! It's not my fault I'm getting rid of you, it's all George Bush's fault!!"

The library, the parking lot, the theft, the bribery, the raises for the highly compensated office worker, that's what they practice up there and these recent bad decisions are only their own. So don't let them blame it on anyone else. The hard pill to swallow is that they are the ones to blame for the mess they have made of this County and this state. They are the ones to blame for the people that are going to lose their homes.
Vote them out people, because when push comes to shove, Rick P. and the rest of the County politicians will sell you out in a Baltimore minute, vote them out!
And, why do we continue to push the new 30 million dollar library? How many employees would that amount of money keep on board?
Say what you want about the Good Ole Boys but this county and city were not in the mess they are in now when the Good Ole Boys were running things. I miss the days of Henry Parkers council. We didn't need a county exec then and we don't need one now.

Your comments about Mark Thompson are correct.This is the person who has been flying back and forth to the west coast and filling up on the high dollar meals supplied by the taxpayers of Wicomico county. And he is telling us to shut up, WOW
Fifteen positions being cut after April 15th. Some are the Local Management Board.
We can start by cutting some six figure salaries from the Pork-u-lis board of education. With all the opportunities for theft in this county system maybe layoffs are needed to keep people busy working for the taxpayers and less time to hatch scemes for thefts. Why do we need two county administrators? Bam, there's another six figure salary to cut before the county raises my taxes.
The position that should be eliminated is the County Administration position that Ted Shea holds. Why is he still making over 100,000 dollars a year when we elected a County Exec to replace him? Why is he still make the exact same salary when he was running it all? This isn't right, and for the person that suggested that the assistant administrator should be eliminated because she isn't qualified...well I ask this how is she not qualified? She has been with the County for 20 yrs, and worked side by side with Shea, so you are going to tell me that 20yrs experience doesn't matter? Get a life.
I hope the county provides a list of POSITION, not names because that is private info, that get the axe. That way the public can ultimately decide if it was done as a way to save money with the least disruption to service or as a means of saving money with the least disruption to the good ole boys.
A comment was overheard at the Route 50 & North Division Street castle that the only job of the assistant administrator was to get Pollitt re-elected. Out with Creamer, Shea, Pollitt, the P.I.O. position and the assistant administrator position. Please note that the "county" P.I.O. has nothing to say regarding the death of an inmate on Friday at the Wicomico County Detnetion Center OR the possibility of another theft of county/state funds/property at the County library. In addition to the Board of Education, departments that need some trimming within the county system are: Information Technology, Fire Inspector, and Emergency Services just to name a few. If the public only knew one-half of the true story about the "good old boys system" within Wicomico County there would be a tea party in the Wicomico River tonight.
As a county employee, I acknowledge that it's not our county executive or even our county council that has brought recent stress on our county. As our population of citizens that do not contribute to taxes increases, in turn the amount of services that we ultimately provide this same population increases. Individuals and families of low socioeconomic status require specialized educational services, more attention from our law enforcement, and occasional residence at local jails. This population either by unfortunate circumstances, a series of poor choices, or sheer irresponsibility has become a burden on our county without our ability to create new jobs. Please don't consider me heartless, but let's stop pointing the finger across party lines and acknowledge the reality... then maybe we can work together to shape a better community for which will be worthy of attracting investors, jobs, and ultimately providing our less fortunate more opportunities while our current middle class and upper class will continue to flourish in a safer community, in nationally competitive schools, and pay low taxes.

Pollitt told the Daily Times, not the PIO... and Kudos to the fact the PIO has been mum on the inmate death at WCDC and the Library embezzlement. First I've heard of cuts to the LMB... again nothing from the PIO to quash rumors.
Human Resources could also stand to be trimmed. You should see their salaries. I guess that is because they had alot to do with setting the salaries. That department has become a place to slide employees to that have outlived their purpose other places. ex. the director and the person shifted from the detention center. Both making over 75k.

It's feast on the third floor and the detention center, and famine everywhere else except for the departmental leaders who have brown streaks on their noses and live every covering up schemes. The biggest problem in Wicomico County is the residents of the county, not the elected officials. the residents have contributed significantly to our money problems. You talk out of both sides of your mouth. You voted to add another layer of government when you voted to have a county executive form of government. That change in government cost us about 1 million dollars a year. Now you are talking about what areas of the budget you can cut. What has a county executive form of government brought that you would not have had with the former form of government. Come on people get with it, wake up . You are missing a potentially good life.
1157 The Human Resources Director is a freaking joke. He has a planning background. He knows nothing about HR law. Rick and He promoted a female employee(who is very knowledgable of the HR law) to EEO Management position and then kept her out of the loop on everything going on at the detention center and while he handled all the detention center issues.
While doing all of this, his pours ooze of alcohol. Fine example for someone who should be defending and protecting the County against potential liabilities and the right of employees. Let's give Rick and round of applause for promoting such a fine manager.
Nice front Rick and Co making the County look like they really care and promoting a female to the EEO position but then not allowing her to investigate things.
The only reason the HR director is there is because with the new Executive form of Gov't, his position would have been slashed. He was Shea's assistant. The HR director at the time resigned, (Tom Calo) and they slid Thompson in there as a way to save one of the good ole boys. No advertisement, no nothing. If you don't think I am right, look into it.
