47 News Director Dawn Mitchell Has Passed Away

Ladies & Gentlemen, it truly saddens me to announce that Dawn Mitchell passed away Saturday.

We will provide a more in depth story about this situation tomorrow but our thoughts and prayers go out to Freddie, (her Husband) and the Mitchell Family.

Dawn was a dear friend and quite frankly I am very concerned for those she has left behind. This is a massive loss for many so I'll ask that all of you keep the Mitchell Family and the WMDT Staff in your thoughts and prayers. Dawn was with WMDT for 22 years.

Thank you for posting this. I used to work at WMDT (and have since moved away) and have been heartbroken and stunned since hearing about this.

Dawn's leaving a huge void.

I went to school and play softball with her daughter Jessie for many many years. Dawn was one of our coaches and she was a sweet woman. She will be missed..

Dawn was a heck of personality, I hadn't seen her much over the past couple of years but when we'd see eachother it was as if no time had passed, she will be missed.

I knew Dawn from when my son went to Tiny Tot years ago. I would talk to her when we would be dropping off our kids before going to work and she was always so full of energy and bubbly personality. That seems like not that many years ago (my son will soon be 18)! I only wish I could have had half of her energy and zest for life....she will certainly be missed. Not sure why good people like her have their lives cut short.

anonymous 3:00, No, it was a massive stroke. We'll provide more details at a later time. Folks, out of respect for the Family, please do not assume anything because most of what is usually spread is not accurate.

She was an awesome News Director. I can honestly say I don't think I would still be in TV without her guidance. In the start of my career she saw something special in me and took a chance. To her I will forever be grateful.

Love and will miss you Dawn.

I'm a former WMDT employee. Dawn gave me my first on-air break. The opportunities she afforded me have allowed me to get where I am today. I'm forever indebted to her. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and the WMDT staff.

When I found out just this week that Dawn had passed, I was speechless! I sat quietly and no words could come out. I fought back tears. But remembering when she first arrived at Channel 47 in 1988 or 1989 as secretary. She came in with lots of energy. We always worked well together. We always made time to just sit and chat for a couple of moments during the day to make sure each of us were good to go.

Our pass crossed later and she was still the same. Full of life and always giving of herself. I will always remember her.

I surely will pray that God wraps his arms around Freddie & the girls.
