Monster Truck Show At Civic Center

"Joe,

I have six tickets to the monster truck show today at two at the Civic Center. I called to see what they were doing because of the snow, and the answer was; “No, it’s not cancelled and there will be no refunds issued.” How can they expect us to drive to the show with four to six inches of snow on the ground? These tickets were not cheap!!! I know there are many others in my position- is there something you can do to help???

Thanks!"

"I was at home at 10:23 a.m. watching the snow fall and was so disappointed because my husband, son, and two grandsons were going to miss the monster truck show at the Civic Center for which we paid $129.50. I called the Civic Center to see what they were going to do (refund or reschedule) only to be told that "the people and equipment are here and the show will be going on no matter what the weather is". I asked about a refund and was told "no refunds". I commented that this was dangerous and stupid....that we, like many people, do not have cars with 4-wheel drive. I was told, "I'm sorry, but I'm only the messenger". I'm sure, with the amount of snow forecasted, we will be advised to stay home for our safety. I just can't believe that the Civic Center would jeopardize people's safety like this PLUS keep our money!"

I'm sure the Civic Center planned for it to snow. If it was the other way around and they decided to cancel and pay for the equipment and performers out of county money you would all be complaining too. I'm just sayin! It's up to individuals to decide what's more important to them, their ticket price or their safety. Sorry, sometimes life isn't fair.

I seem to remember it snowing a couple times in late January when the Monster Trucks or Rodeo was in town and they've always had the same policy as far as I can remember, which is why I would never buy tickets in advance for their shows.

You know, in vast parts of the country, people drive in snow like this every day during the winter, all without any kind of panic or entitlement mentality about getting their money back for tickets to something they've bought. Sporting events go on during snow much worse than this, all with no refund.

But I suppose that in a county where school gets cancelled for days after an inch or two of snow, I shouldn't expect any different.

As long as you drive slowly and carefully, you will be fine! This isn't Buffalo, where they get 25 inches! It's only going to be like 4-6 inches at the very most. Come on people!

Because they have to pay for the show participants, probably. I'm just guessing... I don't know for sure.

From a consumer's point of view, I can imagine how upset these people must be. If it were me, I'd probably be upset too.

On the other hand, did you know when you bought the tickets that there was a "no refund" policy? If that was clearly stated, then I guess you're just SOL.

I guess since it's a business they can do what they want, but I don't think that many people will show up tonight. And I don't think that it will be very good for their reputation putting off so many people, especially having it get the attention of this blog! lol

The truck show is never sold out. I've never bought tickets in advance. It's not like Guerro boxing. If you have a car with front wheel drive, you'll be fine.

Friends of mine in PA, NY up through ME, just laugh at us.. They'll get 2 foot of snow and be driving by noon...

I' m with 11:42.
Drive slower, double the space between you and the car in front of you, prepare to make your stopping distances longer and make sure everybody wears a seatbelt, because the major hazard on the road isn't the weather, it's the people who drive as though there isn't any.

take a taxi

I swear people will complain about anything. Get out in the snow and enjoy it, drive slowly, use caution, stop at least a cars length from the car in fron of you and you'll be fine.

The Civic Center signed a contract. They have to abide by it. It's not like they're doing so well that they can absorb the cost of the returned tickets.

Maybe tonight would be a good time to think about an alcohol policy there - - 2500 men (with kids) on the down side of an adrenaline rush and in the middle of the buzz from three 20 ounce beers coming out to a dark, snow-covered roadway in the middle of a blizzard.

You rednecks got to be kidding me, with the way this economy is you paid money to see trucks crush and ride over cars. Well, enjoy the show, if you can get there.

well it's that time of year, brave it and get on out there, this is how you become old, fearing the damn precip. Either that or suck it up. You're teaching those Grandkids that life stops because some snow is falling, come on!

I agree with 12:09, See you all there tonight!!!!

Typical bullsh!t from the Civic Center. Our kids can't even have prom there because it is too expensive. They have to go to another county. I remember having our prom there and the grand march. It was fun.

I don't think I would risk my life just because they won't cancel it. The problem is other drivers. I've seen people in 4 wheel drive vehicles thinking they can drive at a high rate of speed. Then they run off the road. It's not too often that we get a storm like this. The Civic Center continues to show just how much they suck. As I tax payer in this county, I am very disappointed in them.

Its like the people who plan winter vacations and then the snow causes them not to be able to get to the airport or the flights are cancelled/delayed. Everyone should take out cancellation insurance because of that and many other reasons but NO, people will not spend the extra few dollars to protect their highly anticipated vacation and then all of a sudden, they are not going anywhere and all their money goes down the drain! It happens all the time!

12:24 I agree..get a backbone and suck it up!

anybody dumb enough to pay $129. for ticket at civic center, would drive in any type weather. lol. have fun!

It isn't the Civic Center's show. A promoter has rented the building and it is up to the promoter whether the show will take place or not. If he cancels and reschedules, he will have to pay additional rent for the building, buy extra advertising, etc. Don't get mad at the Civic Center... they're just renting the place.

Go way early and drive slow. Stick to the main roads. Carry a shovel and a flashlight. Dress warm. Wear boots. Don't forget those expensive tickets. You will be fine. Enjoy the show.

to be honest with you i attended the monster truck show last nite and you wouldn't be missing much by not attending. The civic center is big enuff for the trucks to do a half turn. I got more entertainment from our own local people that sat around me. I saw more redneck buttcracks then needed in a lifetime

well i have read all of ur comments and personally im disgusted with the positions some are taking over this situration . I purchased tickets in advance and too have been told to risk two mothers and their children driving here from Dover . It is a sad state of affairs when we ask people to risk their lives for something that could be resolved in simply refunding someones money they paid for a service that they can not safely attend . Is this what we have become ? I for one wont ever darkin their door step again . No matter what kind of venue is being held there . This is just wrong ethics .... But I'll just have to make the money back from the people i do my services for . And that could very likely be one of the smartalics that say so sad to bad ..... No worry's . I 'll have my refund one way or another ... lol

Does the term "No Return Policy" sound familiar. If your are not certain you can travel if the weather is bad, Simply dont buy advance tickets. DUH !

I'm laughing at the irony...Salisbury University canceled (not postponed) my daughter's (and a few hundred other students') December 19th graduation for what amounted to not a whole lot of snow. The Monster Truck Show goes on, with more snow than we had back on December 19th. Makes me wish the people who run the Civic Center made the decision regarding the December graduation...the show must go on. Bad call, SU, bad call.

BTW, the December grads can walk with the June 2010 grads, if they want to. Problem being the December grads will already be six months into their post-grad lives, having moved on.

Stop the darn crying. Learn to drive in the snow or don't buy tickets to events in the winter. I guess you support the global warming theorists and thought winters were supposed to be warm and snowless. Guess again.

Buttcracks and no beer?! Did you see any $500.00 trash cans there?? Maybe Judge Davis will refund everybody's money!!

12:30, you must be a liberal. If your neighbor can't buy food, why then don't you go and buy food for them yourself, instead of criticizing someone else for how they spend their hard-earned money?

Really sorry 'bout your sitURation,...Really and truly am!

This sucks i live an hour away from salisbury and we are snowed in, I cannot risk my family's life to go to the show tonight so $85 dollars is out the window even if they can't refund the whole amount they should give you a discount on your next purchase or something!

Going real slow will get you stuck in snow like this. You have to make sure you NEVER get below about 10 MPH. You do NOT stop at Stop signs unless you have to. Of course you do stop at Lights but do NOT go as soon as it turns Green or assume someone will be able to stop so ignore the other direction on green.

I lived for years where we got this much snow several times a year. Over 6 inches cars get stuck even with FWD and snow tires (most tires are rated for snow). At 8 inches most trucks will get stuck (trucks have higher clearance and are heavier which helps).

I suggest you NOT try to go unless you are close to a main street have experience driving in snow and fairly new tires. This is a very very dangerous storm. It would be even in snow country. My daughter and grandson are stuck here because I do not feel safe driving her to Delmar.

2:12 - amen! I took my 4 yr. old grandson last night and I had a blast just watching the rednecks! If someone would have told me 2 years ago that I'd be at a Monster Truck show someday I'd laugh. But the love of my life is 4 years old and eats, sleeps & dreams of Monster Trucks.

I bet if the Civic Center said they would refund your money but you had to pick up the refund that night or lose it....you would make that trip then!!!!! You bought NON-REFUNDABLE tickets. Be more aware of what you are buying.
