Suspect(s): William “Daniel” Smith, Jr., 18, of Millsboro, Delaware
Resume: Yesterday afternoon, Delaware State Police Detectives from Troop 4 in Georgetown arrested William “Daniel” Smith with multiple sexual related offenses that date back to 2001.
Recently, a juvenile female disclosed to a trusted adult allegations of sexual abuse by a person known to her family- William Smith- between 2001 and 2007. This information was shared with Troop 4 detectives, on January 5th, 2010, who launched an investigation.
It had been alleged that between 2001 and 2007, Mr. Smith had committed multiple accounts of rape against the victim at an undisclosed residence in Millsboro. The offenses initially occurred when the victim was 6-years-old and continued until she was 12.
Subsequent the investigation, warrants were completed and Smith was formally charged yesterday with two counts of Rape 1st (felony), two counts of Rape 2nd (felony), Rape 4th (felony), Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child (felony), four counts of Unlawful Sexual Contact (felony) and two counts of Offensive Touching (misdemeanor).
William “Daniel” Smith was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute in lieu of a $192,000 secured bond.
As to protect the victim in this case, the above captured information is all that will be released. The media’s understanding is appreciated.

I will pray for this poor young girl. This thug is a child predator who is another needing the death penalty for screwing up this poor girl's life. Hope there are no other victims. I really hope your news website and WBOC's Bless Our Children special have been the driving force in our community to encourage more victims to come forward. We live in a sad time and among sick people. So thankful this brave girl finally got the courage to report it probably due to the coverage of the Sarah Foxwell story.

12:50 -- sadder than that. If he is 18 now, and this started in 2001, then he was about 9 at the time. Nine years old. Absolutely insane.

I thought the story said he is 18 now and it started when the victim was 6 then continued when she was 12. This would make him 12 when he did it. Embarassing some people cannot do simple math. Either way it is sick and he was old enough to know better! Glad the little girl came forward. I hope and pray to God more victims in this community come forward every day to help clean up the streets of this garbage. With the statistics being 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be molested by age 18, this is totally alarming stats and people will be coming out of the woodwork now as victims get the courage to speak out w/all the awareness and outrage now. I think more people will speak out because they are afraid the behavior will progress like Legg's did and they are scared but also feel a sense of responsibility to report now to save others before they kill next time like in the Foxwell case. If that becomes reality in our community, then Sarah did not die in vain and is a true angel watching over other children now as people have been saying.
Apparently simple math isn't your strong suit 12:32. It went on until 2007, FYI it's 2010...so yeah, he would have been 9 or 10 when it started depending on his DOB.
To anon 12:32, yes it is sad that people can't do simple math -- so let me correct yours.
The incidents happened between 2001 and 2007. Perp is 18 years old in 2010. 2010-2001 is nine years. 18 years minus nine years is.... 9 years. He started when he was nine years old and continued until for six years until he was fifteen. You may also be able to add/subtract a year from the perp's age depending when his birthday is, obviously.
And also obviously, the perp's age is a separate number here from the victim's age. Still sick, but but doesn't change the math. Hope that helps.
