Wal-Mart is closed. Can anyone tell me why the employees still have to report to work for the night shift? Will trucks still deliver in this mess when everyone is being told to stay off the roads? Obviously Wal-Mart doesn't care about their employees. This is careless!
In the mean time, WaWa on the North end of Town will remain open, even though no employees have shown up for work. Management is being forced to remain at that location. So if you're out and about and would like to give a friendly hello to the Staff that can't be relieved, stop into WaWa and get a hot cup of Joe.

No Walmart doesn't care a lot about it's employees. Did you know that there was a nationwide restructure and hundreds of management (above store level) were terminated? The local market office in Fruitland was wiped out. The trucks get there in the morning so they were there before the snow even started. And no I'm not Bo as you usually think.

They probably all called out anyway.
It's dangerous to drive at night right now. Are stocking shelves that important? Parking lots aren't even cleared. What happens if someone gets injured while trying to get to work?
The same people complaining about being open would complain that they're not getting hours if Walmart was closed. And running the business when employees can't get to Wa Wa is managements job and responsibility.
Need to be sure and thank those WaWa folks for being there. They're open 365 days a year for us, the customer.

I manage a store in the mall and I closed my store @ 1pm but the number of people that were at the mall was amazing!! This is the reason that the stores stay open if any one is concerned about the employees then the customers need to stay home!! play with your kids in the snow in your yard instead of endangering their lives by taking them to the mall in treacherous weather!!
You all act like it is 2' of snow. It really isn't that bad if you drive accordingly.
Churches were closed earlier today. If they think the roads won't be good enough to drive to church doesn't that tell management anything?

went by wa wa at 10 00 pm 12 cars there buying what ever i was glad they were open the people on here that complain and bitch about everything need to crawl back in there cave you are embarrassing yourself.....
11:47pm, if the managers are willing to work, what concern is it of yours? I'm grateful that someone is open to get supplies from.
I also work in a store in the mall and i have to agree with the commenter earlier...the number of people out with very small children just surprised me..what danger did they put them in? reports of accidents all over the area..I just can't figure people out..they get a day off to relax and be safe and they want to shop...we closed today at 4 and it was treacherous then getting home. roads were horrible...be safe all..

just to let you all know, wal mart north only closed because only 6 of those on the schedule showed for work. it wasn't by choice or consideration. it was because their employees said "you bi**hes have bumped your head if you think im coming to work in this!!"

Believe it or not, there are some employees who are so dedicated they will report to work...would you want your employer to say your shift was cancelled and not give you the option to make the money you were planning on. There are always at least 2 ways to look at any situation, but it doesnt always have to be the negative side. WalMart has been good to me for over 10 years as an employee and if I feel I can safely get to work, I will report to work
There are so many local businesses that dont care about their employees that if you boycott all of them you would have nowhere to buy anything.
I also manage a store in the mall and closed around 3:00. There were people in the mall, but they weren't shopping. After having no sales and knowing that I has some tough roads to navigate, I wasn't going to sit there and drive home in the dark on a road that was all but invisible. Caught a little grief from my DM, but if I'd stayed any later, I really would have been taking a big chance getting home safely.
What really gets me is the parents who brought their squealing, screaming kids to play in the play area.
They care about their clients though. Thank goodness someone is open in case of emergencies.There are a lot of neighborhood people who can walk to Wawa.Without big business, this country would collapse.Thanks Wawa.
as someone who delivers to Wal-Mart by truck (although not Salisbury), yes they still expect their deliveries at the time they were scheduled, no matter what the road condition.

If a business decides to stay open during a heavy snow condition, the management should be there to run the place if necessary. They should also give employees the option to stay home without repercussion if the employee fears driving due to weather conditions.
How dare the state governmet making its employees go to work and plow roads. Come on people get real.
My teenage nephew works at Walmart. I certainly didn't want him driving to work in these conditions. Between not having a 4 wheel drive and not being a really experienced driver, I hope no one expected him to go to work!
You're not talking about adults in most of these cases. I also don't see "management" volunteering to go pick him up!
My former employer would call everyone in to work and then, after an hour, would close for the day. People who lived in town didn't make it to work, but I lived miles away and made it. Used to piss me off...
I just called Wal-Mart North and they are opened.
Not too long ago, a judgement was issued against an employer for threatening to fire an employee who was trying to call out due to very inclement weather. The employee was injured in an accident en route, and the Court held that the employer was liable.

The only time Wawa will close because of snow is if a state of emergency is declared.
How about if our boys refused to go to work when we had the Korean War (too cold too much snow) Or its too hot to go to work at 130 degreese in Iraq. OR too much rain in Viet Nam. We would all be speaking another language. Get a back bone and do what you need to do.
Its no big deal-took me twice as long to get to work but I cant afford to miss work,just had to allow extra time and be cautious.
you dont get it folks this wawa store demanded that management come in so you could have a cup of coffee my fiance is one of the ones that had to be there and not willingly so why put her life in danger to go make a buck her check doesn't cover the cost of a funeral i guess thats why i am moving away from here tired of dealing with idiots just not getting it
Wawa doesn't demand anyone to drive in emergency situations, and they don't close either. Wawa stays open for people who NEED things and can make it, and for the local authorities who may need something....Go WAWA!!!!
Employers are not typically sympathetic to the fact that not everyone is capable of driving in inclement weather, and will injure themselves and others trying to get to work. Good managers will pick up the shift and send their employees home to be safe. Ya’ll are complaining about a Wawa, but hey – I am sure there were a few gas stations open too, why aren’t you complaining about them? Try looking at the big picture before you start with the foot stomping and bla bla bla. One of life’s harsh realities is that most employers AND your co-workers could care less about you. Switch jobs and see how many of them keep in touch.
