Solutions To Crime

We've all had time to release anger and frustration, now let's provide the 3 cry babies on the city council with solutions. They always say all we, as a people do is complain, as if it wasn't our right to do so. Let's offer up some solutions to resolve some of our issues in the city.

I would offer the following:
1. Terminate Chief Webster immediately
2. Appoint an interim chief that is not afraid to do the job and has the respect of the troops. (The only way to know who that is would be to poll the troops, individually to avoid retaliation from above)
3. Request Mike Lewis and Ernie Leatherbury to orchestrate a surge in all crime laden neighborhoods.
4. Round up every single known gang member.
5. Round up everyone displaying gang signs, colors, or symbols no matter their age.
6. Remove the STOP sign at the intersection of Naylor & Church Sts. It only accomodates open air drug trafficking.
7. Shut down all nuisance properties. Properties that are known to house drug dealers, bordellos, shooting galleries, etc.
7. Continue with these surges often until the drug dealers, gang members and anyone else considering a life of crime gets the message they will not be tolerated any longer.

It won't be easy and it will be costly. The question is how much is your safety and quality of life worth?

How many victims do we have to have before we say ENOUGH?

The interim chief would have to be from outside the dept. The "troops" have no confidence in anyone on the third floor.

don't forget no. 9 - our illustrious city council VP's suggestion to fund a $200,000 effort - hummmmmmmm could he be reading sbynews? lol

We need money for the police force, when we get one. Sell that fire boat, the hazmat truck and use the soda truck and anything else we dont need and put the money where it will do the most good. We need a police chief, a real one and a force and the equipment to do the job.
City council get off your a$$es and do something for the community and the voters that put you there. It has been 3 to 2 too long. All of you need to work together for the good of all.

Get a clue. It's easier and more profitable to emphasize "click it or ticket" than it is to fight real crime. It's easier to right a speeding ticket or install another traffic camera than to execute a raid on a drug house.

#10. Issue a Right to Concealed Carry Permit to all law abiding citizens immediately.

Anonymous said...

If that happens that would be great, but get ready for some backlash from the NAACP. Lets face it, what types of areas are most of the crimes happening.

for all those opposed to the fireboat...get over it! It was purchased with a Fed. Grant. When a fuel barge runs out of the river channel and sparks a fire, everyone of you will be screaming that the city is not equipped for such barges. Read the stats Salisbury is the 2nd busiest port in Maryland! Now onto the crime I agree it will cost quite a bit and be long rough road to travel but it needs to be done. I dont live in the city but also dont like traveling into or around it after dark. The city being unsafe is part of the reason businesses within city limits are not thriving as they should be, make it safer after dark and more people will frequent those businesses after dark.

yeah buddy!!!..to hell with the constitution...just pick up anyone who isn't "like us"....run 'em all in!!! ..."solutions" ???????...morelike fascism.

Anonymous said...

Hey check the DT, Comegys is going for $200,000 to fight violent crime in Salisbury! Guess he finally understands, get real, or be voted out!

When will you all learn? it doesn't matter how tired of this BS we are... There is NOTHING we can do... Again I state Govt is about greed, and greed comes from money end of story... And that's all gvot officials are after, nothing more... You can see this in history and in present day times... And even though out the WORLD... Even if you were to have every person in this city/county raise up what good is it? If the mayor cant even fire someone for not doing their jobs?

Note: Retaliation comes in all fronts and forms so I can guarantee if we were to stand up, you would be held accountable... Never the less When you get to vote between lesser of 2 evils, we lose anyway...

Anonymous said...

3:23 To hell with the bleeding heart BS. Call it what you will. Do you think Salisbury will be the first to round up gangs or criminals?

Would you be spewing the same crap if it was you lying in PRMC with bullet wounds to your stomach? I think not.

I concur totally and in addition lock up the criminals for the lessor crimes and keep them in jail so they can't commit the heinous ones. This is how Guliani cleaned up New York City. This would require officials and judges without a penchant for political correctness. Don't hold your breath. Give Mike Lewis a clear unfettered field and we will see something get done. It's sad and frightning to hear City police advise us to stay in our homes at night as a solution to Protecting ourselves from danger.

Recently at a Habitat event on Martin st we had to have police presence there to prevent the house across the street from conducting prostitution activities. All of the officers there knew what it was. House is owned by one of our local slumlords whom I am sure knows what is happening there as well.

@2:41 Who says an interim chief would have to be appointed from the 3rd floor? The mayor can appoint anyone he chooses.

Not Fascism, but FACTISM. Look at the stats. and data then tell me about fascism,.

idiot

i wonder if Webster will actually have the guts to be in the Christmas parade. can you imagine his reception

Anonymous said...

Make it a woman over Webster. He'd surely quit.

3:22 Sure hope that fuel barge doesn't run aground somwhere other that Smallsbury, That would be a total trajedy, what a jerk.

I suggest that some of you do a little reading about civil rights..about probable cause....actually read the Constitution and The Bill of Rights. Then read about jackboot "justice" and it's outcomes. It's not "bleeding heart" liberalism...it's holding true to what this country is all about. You don't solve a crime problem by trampling all over the rights of the citizenry.

Some of you sound every bit as dangerous to a free society as the asses who are perpetrating the crimes here.

Anonymous said...

How about all of the people who whish to patrol the streets with there concealed firearms attend a police academy and volunteer your free time to the police force.

Anonymous said...

Oh yeah and don't forget. they do shoot back. I hope you are all good shots.

I think if you are an african american male walking around in known gang colors in the middle of the night with a hoodie pulled over your head you give up your right to probable cause. Just like you would if you were a white male standing in the corner of a playground all alone in a trenchcoat. Or if you are walking around the female dorms in the middle of the night in all dark outfit. Yea you might get some innocent people but if you are acting or dressing in a manor that a criminal or gang member would then you brought that on yourself.

It has nothing to do with race... its all about these people present themselfs... look like a criminal or member of gang.. get treated like one. When 80 year old grandmoms in their tracksuits start shooting storeowners at night, I will be the first one to say start rounding those granys up.

re: 3:48 & 4:06........I am one of the well-armed, concerned citizens I believe you are referring to. It is not my job and/or intent to protect and serve the populus; it is my responsiblity to protect and defend my property, both personal and physical.
It is my constitutional right to bear arms, and to take up arms in defense of my country and my personal liberties.
Any criminal who intends on doing me and/or my family harm will be dealt with, regardless of race. I will admit; due to the actions of a few, that I am leary of and suspicious of black males in dark clothing with ski masks. The #'s and %'s don't lie.

You want the violent crime to go away? Smash the drugs.

Anonymous said...

Gas barge vs. fire boat are you kidding me? A gas barge fire would laugh at that little fire boat. Best thing is let it burn!

Anonymous said...

"Round up"??? What is this, the wild west? OK, round em up........and do what with em? What a maroon you are!

Anonymous said...

5:08 every major city in this country rounds up criminals at one time or other. This IS the wild west or a reasonable facsimile. You round them up and sort them out. Never know what you might find in the heap.

This blog offered solutions as did other commentors. What is your solution?

Anonymous said...

4:33...I don't object to your right to defend yourself and your property...that has little to do with the vigilante "solutions" proposed in the original post.

4:18..no one said anything about race.

Anonymous said...

5:18...the original post does not say "round up criminals"....read it again. It basically sets up some very broad parameters for rounding up people who the poster ASSUMES must be criminals. It's lawlessness disguised as crime fighting.

3:48 PM

what do u suggest? have criminals wear id badges? u keep saying what we shouldn't do, how about offering some real ideas. apart from guaranteed due process for known and identifiable gang bangers.

Anonymous said...

I agree with what you say but unfortunately the ACLU would have a field day. In the world that we live in today, the criminals have all the rights. I also agree that we should at least be given the right to carry a firearm for our own protection. It seems that every problem can be traced back to some liberal action taken by our so called elected officials. It's certainly is time for change.

Anonymous said...

3:48 Have you never left the eastern shore? Watched national news? Read a national magazine? Are you an ACLU lawyer? The police shakedown thugs everywhere. They shakedown known felons when they want information. Screw them and their rights, they checked their rights the minute they stepped on someone elses. It's attitudes like yours that keeps these felons free to do anything they please. If you don't like what you see, don't look.

Pressure the landlords into conducting business with respect for the community(and themselves) if they get that. Put pressure everywhere you can LEGALLY, do it. Dont break the rules, but BEND THE HECK out of them. You have to set your mind to something and do it. The most important part is the SYSTEM has to work TOGETHER.

I think we are forgetting a resource that should step up and that resource is SU. With the demand they place on SPD why shouldn't they have some skin in the game? If they were billed for calls for service by SPD we could hire several additional officers.

Anonymous said...

SU hosted the crime forum last night. Ed Lashley cooperates with all law enforcement agencies. He does what he can with the resources he has to work with. That is more than can be said for the chief of SPD.

Zero tolerance. Enforce all ordinances & laws rigorously. Stiffen penalties for all violations. Put more cops on the streets through collaboration. The judiciary will respond to the mood of the people and the needs of the community.

Stop the whining & hysteria. Let professionals get the job done now.

So now that crime is sky high we are finally gonna do something??? The easiest way to rid this area of crime is to move, plain and simple. The good ol boys run everything here, they push their own agendas and keep all their friends within arms reach and most are "above" the law. Slumlords, high poverty, drugs, open air gang activity, high dropout rates in the local schools and high truancy rates all contribute to the backwards way that is the shore. These problems have been covered up from the local public for years. Flush out the good ol boys and hire outsiders that GENUINELY like it here and you may start to see change. You have years upon years of work to do, these things have been going on for years and dont solve themselves overnight. There isnt enough charm around here to stay in an area where you are hostage inside your house after dark. I cant wait to leave!! Too much bickering about where you are from and "attitudes" within the general public. Good luck but this community needs to be flushed.

Anonymous said...

Meanwhile...back at public works...has anyone seen a street sweeper? It's been 2 months since they came by our house. (maybe they're sweeping for crime???)

Anonymous said...

Why not shut down the zoo ?
charge parents with children who ride school buses to school a fee, use the money for police .
why not wait and we will be a communist nation in a few years, the police state will then take the criminals and shoot them in the street.

7:27...I have spent more of my time off the shore than on it....but what the hell does that have to do with civil rights? The Constitution and the Bill of Rights are for every American no matter where they live.

Vigilante justice is not the answer and neither is a bonfire.
We have elected representatives who are responsible for our safety. THEY need to get thier act together and stop acting like petulant school kids.

Simple question...whatever happened to the gang task force???
Answer: those respnsible for it dropped the ball and it fell apart.ALL of them should he held to account for that....Webster,Lewis,Ruark,Leatherbury...the entire lot of them.

The rest of your post really makes no sense at all quite frankly.

All of you fine citizens, what has happen to america?
It is a shame that our city, country has come to the state at which it is in.
ca ca cant we all just get along.
