One of the Salisbury Police Officers who was recently suspended, (out of 3) thought about what had been done and simply said, screw this, I'm out of here.
That's right, Webster is short yet ANOTHER Officer because of a boneheaded decision on his behalf. I know, let's hire some more 21 year olds and expect them to act like 40 to 50 year old men.
I have said it for years, Webster Sucks as Police Chief and Mayor Ireton needs to get him the heck out of there before he forces everyone out of there out of spite. Perhaps Webster sees the writing on the wall and is putting additional pressure on Ireton because Ireton refused to jump when the Chiefy said jump.
Look at me for example, I refused to jump too and the man is done just about everything possible to have me arrested. Jim, get this guy out of there before it's too late and others take a walk as well. I'm not kidding around either, this is very serious stuff. The Citizens are NOT being protected and when the Officers start bailing like they have most recently, Webster is proving he cannot lead and he needs to be fired.
Wanna bet Webster refuses to go public about this Officer quitting?

The reinstatement of health insurance may become a point of contention among council members. Smith and Comegys do not receive health insurance and Councilwoman Shanie Shields decided to opt out so the city could make the cut.
"I believe that $27,000 is a lot of money when we have to find funds for our portion for the police department," Shields said.
Since when has Shields cared about finding funds for police? Why didn't she give up her health care before when money was needed for police.
This just smells like they are out to get Debbie and Terry. We'd save more than that if we just fired those worthless three.
Salisbury lost a good man, an innocent man, and it's a shame the citizens don't see what a pathetic nut Webster really is!

I don't have one single problem with young officers. They need a good leader. You don't get respect, it must be earned and chiefy has proved he isn't capable of doing that.
Back to the young officers, if we can retain them with good leadership they will develop into a great investagative force that Salisbury can be proud of.
Anonymous 10:06, I don't see a problem with young Officers. However, I do have a problem when the veteran Officers are walking out the door simply and mainly because they can't stand Webster. That's TWO Officers in one month, think about that.
The Veterans are the ones who keep the young Officers in line, in training and they teach them the way of the world on the street. You do NOT know this at 21 years of age.

yes I read that and my take on it is that Ms. Shamey was conned into giving up her health insurance because she is eligible for welfare/Medicaid. Louweasel and Bubba have a cushy retirement with benifits.
I don't have a problem with health care benifits for the elected members as they certainly do more work than they are compensated for. Well let me rephrase that, there are two council members that do more work then they are compensated for.

Jim Ireton has already shown his weakness as a leader by keeping Webster in his capacity and promoting the crooked deputy fire chief to the acting fire chief position. I want my vote back.
I want to know about Webster's contract with the City. Is that public information? What are the details about it?
point one Shanie is covered by her Husband that retired from the State of Maryland if not mistaken. Point two the Police Dept is run like State agencies. I am in power so shut up and do as you are told. They are not trained to be liked they are trained to write reports in a creative manner that interjects their opinions and not factual. When they have to do their job they want convictions at any cost. What ever happen to the Officer that was respected by the Public and the Public enjoyed interacting with them. The Public do not trust Police because they know they no longer care about Public or the image they project. This alone makes my point of you have to lead by example not by dictatorship. This alone tells a lot of the leadership.
Chief Webster must be doing something right, did you see the 2008 Report. Looks like crime is DOWN.

11:19 Crime went down throughout the whole country, not just here during that time frame. Webster did nothing but sit in his office and play chief. Crime went down from what to what. Ok, lets take the lowest figure, that "lower" figure is still extremely too high for this area. Webster has done very little to help this area or agency. One example: Webster does not believe in talking to the troops and showing support. He refuses to do it, lead from an office is his style. Example two: Webster has been approached about getting Tasers, he refuses to do it, studies after studies have been preformed that show the reduction in officer injuries and fights drop dramatically. Tasers may have been able to have been used in the latest police shooting, who knows maybe a life could have been saved, maybe not. Could have had the option though.
Webster is not an effective leader, his style is not working here and will never work here.

Here we go again. One more time: Mayor Ireton does not have the power to fire Chief Webster--only the council can do that! You want Webster gone? Pressure the city council!
Um........ if the cop did something wrong, he should quit. or should be fired. As for the Major, I do not think he can fire the police chief. If that were the case, you would have a new chief everytime there is a new major - ceremonial do nothing position for a majors chosen one.
How many signitures do you need from city tax payers to force him out?

Joe, I'm curious, since when did you obtain the gift to meld minds with people so you know what they're thinking? Unless you personally talked to this officer, you have absolutely no idea what his/her reasoning was for resigning. Could it possibly be because killing a man is such a traumatic event this person simply never wanted to be in this position again? The reasons for the resignation are numerous. Your speculation and laying this action at the feet of the police chief is irresponsible at best.
As for whether the chief will go public with the resignation, it's a personnel matter and personnel matters aren't blabbered about by corporate/government management for risk of a law suit. If the officer wants to tell his/her story, it is their prerogative to do so.

The officer resigning has nothing to do with the leadership. Please, regardless of poor leadership, the suspended officers messed up. So if one of them has resigned it is most likely in anticipation of termination. I am not saying I think Webster is a great leader by any stretch of the imagination, but let's put blame where it belongs... with the officers who failed their co-workers, the community, and themselves.
Other than see Ireton plant some flowers and throw out a softball to open the new season, I really havne't seen him make any bold, decisive moves. I'm hoping he's simply getting the lay of the land and all his ducks in order before making the bold moves that are needed. If not, simply being a pleasant fellow isn't what Salisbury needed.
Ok...let's set something straight. The SUSPENDED officers are not the officers who were involved in the shooting. The officers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave, which is departmental policy in most police departments after being involved in a shooting. The suspended officers were being investigated for completely unrelated matters. The officer who has resigned WAS NOT involved in the shooting and probably left in fear of termination. No your facts.

The Officer left because he wasn't going to take any more crap from Webster. I know why he left, I know what he'll be doing down the road and quite frankly some of you guys have your heads up your rear ends so far you lost too many brain cells to know right from wrong any more.
It's NO ONES business what this former Officer will be doing down the road. Webster is the cause of his choosing to resign, like it or lump it, as they used to say.
And weren't those three officers that were escorted out of the police building suspended for being caught for repeatedly sleeping while on duty?

Kinda of ironic these men are being perecuted for sleeping on duty. Webster has been asleep at the wheel for years. Also that is 5 officers in the last month they lost 3 to other departments. If anyone can ot see that Webster has almost ruined a once great agency you are bilnd. The infighting and snitching. Officers degrading the command in public they are so disgusted. This all points to one thing the troops have lost faith in the leadership. No matter what Webster does now I dont think it will change the anger umong his men.
They dont need a hard baller or some local legend in his own mind to take over. The mayor needs to look far and wide for a new chief. These men and women will have to be won over because of the major trust issues with command.
I say one county, one department. With an elected Sheriff. This crap would only last until the next election. We need a COUNTY POLICE period.

I assure you I am not giving you B.S. But I know what I am talking about. I don't always agree with your comments on Webster, but I completely agree that SPD needs a strong leader. But you certainly don't have all of the facts. The officer is leaving because he has probably been afforded an opportunity to save face. You can bash me all you want, but your misinformed.
Can't wait to see when Oliphant sues the crap out of Webster, and the Salisbury Police Department. I'll be there with signs of support!!

The three officers suspended with pay, a month ago, while under internal investigation for routinely going home while on duty are LT Elmer Davis, CPL S. Oliphant and CPL S. Ewing.
CPL Ewing accepted a demotion to PFC in lieu of a Departmental trial.
CPL Oliphant resigned in lieu of ???
LT Davis ???
Sure does make me wonder why Webster never tried investigating Comegys for doing the same. After all, he came after me for everything he could dream up and I never broke the law or stole from Maryland Taxpayers.

Salisbury residents need to do something fast to get rid of Louise or there will be NO change no matter who's the Mayor.
Salisbury City officers need pay raises new equipment ie NOT PIECE OF SH^( cop cars, tazers and a leader....A REAL LEADER. Crime looks down to the chief because he only works monday through friday 8-4. He doesn't work weekends or nights. He doesnt respond to the calls and see the uncontrolled activity of the criminal element after normal business hours or on the weekend. He's a joke. I have experienced good and bad leaders and from what i see, hear, read, and know...he sucks. Give the men and women what's needed to do the job!!!!
we can't even get equipment to get new police cars ready to ride the streets..let alone tazers or anything more up to date to help with crime/injuries. And when they do put the new lights on the cars they wont make them even the same as the other new light cars...they will put LESS lights on them. EVERYTHING is going the wrong direction...not just crime
