I always love to help local organizations like the Volunteers of Deer's Head hospital. It's a shame that they chose Texas Roadhouse as the location since I have sworn never again to give the Fruitland location of that franchise any of my business.

My sunglasses were stolen by an employee while they were being held for me at the hostess's stand for me to pick up (after forgetfully leaving them on the table after eating dinner). When I arrived to pick them up they couldn't find them. I was told by one of the two owners (a manager/cook) of the restaurant that the theft would be investigated and things would be made right. He told me that they would review the security tapes and discipline the theif, and return or replace the sunglasses. After several phone calls to the restaurant and repeated unreturned phone calls and promises of "looking into it" during the following week, I was told by the owner that he didn't have time to look at the security videos and that he couldn't help me. When I asked what I should do about this I was told that I "could call the Fruitland police and file a police report" and that he "couldn't waste any more time on this".

Instead of calling the police, I called the Texas Roadhouse franchise directly in Kentucky. After explaining the situation, expressing my frustration to the polite and understanding company representative and asking her if she really wanted me to place a call to the police to have an unknown Texas Roadhouse employee charged with theft, I was promised a call back. Surprisingly, she called me back 10 minutes later and said that the local franchise owner/manager would be calling me and would make things right. Several minutes later I received a call from him. Although it seemed forced (and I'm sure it was) he reluctantly offered to pay for a new pair of sunglasses. I called the franchise rep back and thanked her for her involvelment.

I used to eat at Texas Roadhouse often and spent a considerable amount of money there. I haven't been back since the "sunglasses theft incident". I have no ill feelings toward the Texas Roadhouse franchise but I will never again eat at the Fruitland location. Whenever that restaurant comes up in conversation the story of the rude owner who allows a theif to be employed at his restaurant always seems to make its way into the conversation. I can't say how much they've lost in income but I can assure you it's much more than a $100 pair of sunglasses.

Please be sure and let me know when fundraising events are happening at more respectable locations and I will surely attend.
