I Warned You About this Months Ago, and You Thought I Was Nuts...

Pentagon to Detail Troops to Bolster Domestic Security

The U.S. military expects to have 20,000 uniformed troops inside the United States by 2011 trained to help state and local officials respond to a nuclear terrorist attack or other domestic catastrophe, according to Pentagon officials.

The long-planned shift in the Defense Department's role in homeland security was recently backed with funding and troop commitments after years of prodding by Congress and outside experts, defense analysts said.

There are critics of the change, in the military and among civil liberties groups and libertarians who express concern that the new homeland emphasis threatens to strain the military and possibly undermine the Posse Comitatus Act, a 130-year-old federal law restricting the military's role in domestic law enforcement.

Well if you ask me, right here is where our troops belong, protecting Americans on American soil. Anyone who thinks that the terrorists are all over in the Middle East because that's where the troops are is a fool. They are right here, right now, plotting against us on our own soil, streaming in across the borders of Canada and Mexico, while our troops are thousands of miles away with their backs turned. We've made enough enemies now throughout the world that it's time to come home and pay the price, and protect our nation right here.

I ABSOLUTELY AGREE--100% !!!!!
Did you ever wonder what the
Hell would happen to us with

should terrorist strike here?

back to the basics - "...the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall NOT be infringed"

Don't forget, one reason the Japanese didn't attempt to attack our mainland is that we the people possessed firearms.

This is a great idea

We have a National Guard to do this. There's a reason the Founding fathers were suspicious of standing armies.

Crazy Times, This act will violate the constitution I believe. One step from marshall law. your right Mrs Wymzie. Scary shit.

Oh My God!

I can't believe that you people think that this is a good a idea!

Read you history! Your giving your up your rights to protect yourselves!

If you don't read at least watch the John Adams series done by HBO last year!
A standing army is the last thing that we want.

No wonder the government can get away with this, you not only let them you want it.

I guess I filed this under the right catagory...God Help Us

anon 3:42 pm---Yes, we do have a National Guard. But most of them are not here. They're "over there."

Anon 10:58 am: I'm sure any terrorists currently here with biological or other weapons of mass destruction will be terrified of an unorganized, untrained crowd of citizens brandishing their guns.

doug, no offense, but it's "martial" law

Wymzie: I don't think you're nuts. You are entitled to your opinion just as anyone else is, and I respect that. Please note that in your post, "outside experts" are mentioned. They're called "experts" for a reason; they have far more knowledge, information and experience than we do. And shouldn't Homeland Security be here, in the Homeland? There's little doubt in my mind that an attack from within our borders is coming in the not-too-distant future. We need to be protected HERE, and local police departments ain't gonna cut it when it comes to a direct attack on our soil.
