The Salisbury Elks #817 will be leasing their golf course to a private company for the first time in their long history starting January 1, 2009. The Salisbury Golf Management (SGM) company, headed up by Dave Reichenberg will take over the golf operation at the end of the calendar year. This will permit public play on the heretofore private course. The Elks have operated the course on the site on Church Hill Ave. since the 1930s. The Golf Course will still play host to all of the traditional Elks events such as the Junior Golf Camp, DAV and Toys for Tots tournaments as well as the club championship competitions.
Other Lodge operations including bar, hall rentals, pavilion rentals, and swimming pool operations will remain in the hands of the Elks Lodge management. The Elks Lodge and pool will remain open as a members only club. Swimming will not be open to the public.
For information on the change contact Rick Konrad (Exalted Ruler) at 410-430-3340. For information on public golf memberships or play call Russ Hagerman 410-749-2695

Are we going to be able to take the kids sledding there again, or will the no trespassing signs stay up?
I would guess the No-Trespassing signs will stay. The liability is too great. This must be the beginning of the end for the golf course.
They must be hurting for business. I personally think it should stay private.

Do you want someone sledding in your yard? How about you telling us where you live so we can go tear up your yard.
Dave was the Course Superitendent back in the mid 90's when the course was in great shape. I hope it can get back to the way it was then.
Even though I grew up sledding there myself..... I don't think it should be allowed. It ruins the 9th/18th hole and is not owned by the public. There are plenty of other places in the park to sled.
Its the only hill worth sledding down in this flat as state.
they alt to drain the pool and let people skate it, transition is rough and quick, but still skatable.
Like everyone else, they are hurting....The maintenance and upkeep a decent golf course requires is astronomical and memberships at fraternal organizations are down all across the country.
Dave is back to save the golf course, the old Superitendent who did not know what he was doing and went against advice given by Dave and another superitendent and burnt the greens so bad they were unplayable for awhile now, Dave will bring the course back to some respect and also it is open to Public because the golf market is not the best right now due to economy and the saturation of the golf market, so they are looking for more play
When the Elks leases the course out, is all that land still tax-exempt for City and County taxes?
I think it would be a great place for public housing!
I'm glad that they will continue the catering services... I would hate for Pittsville Fire Department to have to find some other place to host their bi-monthly department dinners.
They are keeping the Elk's Lodge running, too bad they don't play golf... :)
Joe should build his own zoo there. Better than the dump across the street.
The Elks currently pay taxes on the golf course property

LMAO
Those drunks at the Pittsville FD would end up fighting each other and beating each other to death. They get drunk and have fights at every function.
Food for thought....the younger generation is not exactly in a hurry to join a stuffy place (with a pitch and putt 9 hole course)where someone actually has the audacity to be referred to as "Exalted Ruler." Gimme a break!!
Will they have to pay the amusement tax now?
Only if you're under 18 years old and create a league.
Nice of them to tax the kids. Teach them young on how to be screwed by the government. geeeeez
If it's public, why sell memberships?
Who bought the lease?
they need to lease out that pool, too.
