Big Accident Again On Rt. 50

There's another big accident on Tilghman Rd. & Rt. 50. 2 Ambulances, 2 Fire Trucks and Police Officers with more on the way. This intersection has been under construction for many, many months and quite a few accidents have occurred there. This information is live.

Appeared to be a ford explorer type vehicle that rolled over. Riddle me this: Why is it on a MVC does the career duty crew only go with an engine yet the vollies have to dump the whole house? Is the career staff wrong for not taking enough or are the vollies wrong for taking to much and wasting fuel and resources? You cant have it both ways.

I guess the accident is chief highway engineer bubba's fault. That intersection is a death trap and has become worse since the SHA has been working on it.

Anon 4:29 PM,

Why are you bashing the volunteer firegighters here? You should be lucky that you have a job as a paid firefighter because you can't get a job anywhere else.

the only reason the duty crew doesn't take more then one peice is simple they only have staffing for one engine.

I live about 2 miles from that site and avoid that intersection at all cost. However, I was at Food Lion preparing to go across when it appeared there was an accident. This intersection was started in APRIL. YES APRIL. How I remember, we were on our way out of town and saw they starting it early week. SO, what is their excuse on that one. The road from RT 50 to Zion is still not open and that has been going on forever. Looks like when these projects are done maybe the employess won't have anyplace else to start working so they are prolonging the tasks. DISGUSTED in Maryland and it is probably no better in any of the other states except Alaska and no body wants to live there....too cold....

How can they pave the Bypass, From here to there,, A Major issue, and still cannot finish that intersection,, What a bunch of idiots!

If 3 people can handle an accident on 1 piece of equipment then the vollies should be able to do the same. If they are unable to do so they dont need to be responding. The more equipment they foolishly put on the road the more they are putting the citizens at risk.

You can bash the fine men and women of the fire service. You can act like you know how to run all types of emergency situations. You can point fingers and call names, and blow hot air out of your mouth all day long.

When you dial 911, for any reason at all, they will still come to help you out! They will still come to be a hero to your child! They will still carry your sick parent or ill spouse to the hospital. They will do all of these things without batting an eye as to who you are or what you've said.

Now what would you do for them?

Be very careful about the words you utter. Be very carefull what you put out for all to read. You may think you know it all and that everything you say is gosple.

But one day you will be very humbled. One day you'll be so sorry that you would stoop so low. One day you'll be judged by someone greater than all of us.

Until then, keep running your mouth. It's the only friend you have.

This isn't the beginning of a love affair but I'm brgining to like you.

Hopefully no-one was hurt.

The paid duty crew only takes one piece because that's all the manpower they have. There is generally an engine or rescue to support the first piece coming from somewhere, because it is foolish to be at an accident with no water, or a minimum of tools available.

A vollie house generally gets 2, maybe 3, pieces out on a good day for a serious MVA. That is far from dumping the house in most cases. Vollie manpower is probably more EMT's than paramedic's, and firefighters who do not do and train for this 40 hrs a week, so it's good to have some extra manpower. It does not mean that one way is better than the other, it is just how the system works. And it works very well.

Anon 4:29 PM & 6:40 PM,

Why do you hate volunteer firefighters? I guess you forgot that you were one at one time. You are nothing more than a loser.

You should be thankful you have a job as a paid fireman because you are probably not qualified for any other type of job that requires using your brain.

Anonymous said...

The question isnt whether the volunteers would be there for you or not. The question is why is so much equipment on put on the road when it isnt needed? If dumping the house is needed by the volunteers then the same ammount of equipment should also be put on the road during the day also.

I have no ill will towards any of the Emergency crews (police,Fire, ambulance) They were there for my daughter in our time of need. My brother is a police officer in another state So I support anyone who is in this line of work.

Now I know everyone has an Opinion and may not like how people do things. But please keep this in mind...No One Is Perfect..we are humans and we make mistakes...Some of us make serious mistakes...

I just can't get over how some people react to one another on this blog when they are anonymous...

Well that's my opinion :) I hope the people who were in the accident are ok.

Hey, when this accident was reported a statement was made... 2 ambulances and ? firetrucks. Bottom line.... it looked pretty bad and a car was turned over. HOW in the H--- did this turn into such a mess. You sound like a lot of idiots and angry people out there. Just get over it. Bottom line was ...why so long on this intersection... that was all.. now you fools want to turn it into something that was not intended...

Over-compinsation will never replace self confidence or self respect. Ive never seen a group of people further from their mirrors in my life, it would be sad if it werent so damn pathetic.

Okay, City of Salisbury protocol states that in the event of a MVC(Motor Vehicle Accident with Injuries) that Station 16 will respond with Rescue 16. This unit has a wider assortment of extrication tools that the standard fire engine does not. There is no need for each engine to carry a half dozen or so rescue tools when you can place them on one unit and centralize it all.

The staffing that the Duty Crew has is minimal, an Officer and 4, perhaps 5 at best.

The Duty Crew are the only ones who will bring Rescue 16 since it is first due on ANY Rescue situation in the City.

And on a side note, who really cares?? Peoples lives are at stake and you are complaining about wasting fuel and resources. Trust me when I say that extra hands on ANY scene are helpful. If it was your family standing on the side of the road in the freezing cold, you would be complaining about there not being enough personnel.

So do us all a favor, and shut up!!

You are so right. i would be mad as h--- if they came with a hose and needed a shovel, right!!! Minutes count and oftentimes information is vague or the people are so upset you don't get the real facts. HOWEVER, again my point is not about how many fire trucks, ambulances, or whatever. My question WAS WHY IS THIS INTERSECTION NOT FINISHED..... If I or my family have an accident there before this job is completed. I WILL SUE! FOR NEGLECT. I said in the past. Delaware had police positioned all along RT 13 during their resurfacing. Maryland just does NOT CARE, unless it is on the other side of the pond.

I hope they didn't dispatch that arrogant women paramedic!

Think of it this way....having all the equipment out saves lives. While crews are working the scene, all kinds of rubber-necking motorists want to know whats going on and just plain stop paying attention to THEIR driving. Then BAM!! another accident happens in the blink of an eye.
I would rather you run into a big ass firetruck blocking the lane or a traffic control unit or whatever before you plow into me while I'm working the same scene with my tow truck. I have been hit (minor) by a motorist not paying attention, so bring all the equipment , if it'll save another life, or help prevent further injuries to first responders.
Just my opinion.

If you go through the intersection and have an accident don't blame the construction. Yes it has taken them a long time to complete the project, but if everyone takes thier time, slows down, and follows the traffic patterns than you should have no problem. I have been through that intersection almost everyday now and by slowing down and taking my time, I have had no problems. Most of the time when an accident occurs it is because someone is either not paying attention or being in a hurry. So please think about your statement and think of your driving before you go off saying you are going to sue someone. This is the problem with our society we are so caught up in taking someone to court over minor things.

bubba needs to quit politicin and do what he is paid by our tax dollars to do. Engineer and intersection that is safer!!!!! He can't complete this project. Its been torn up for the last 5 months. They can build a new road in less time than that. Start taking money away from Bubba and his contractor buddy and work will be completed by the end of the week. No sense in people ruining their vehicles due to road conditions and people loosing their lives because of his stupid decisions.

The accident happened like this.
A van, I believe a green dodge caravan, had pulled out and hit the passenger side of our truck. I do not remember excactly how were started to roll but we did atleast twice. The police officers told us there would not be any tickets involved as the driver of the van, and most witnesses, said there was a malfunction in the lights and that they all turned green at once. All windows of the expedition were shattered except for the middle one on the passenger side.
We did have a dog in the vehicle with us. A beagle/ basset named Marty to be specific and he was found be my dad after we were checked out of the hospital. Thank you to all of the people that looked for him. He is fine. Let me finish by saying that we are all fine and have recieved all of the help that was required. I would also like to thank the paramedic that took me and my sister to the hospital. You were very kind and helpful. In my opinion they got there in finominal time and deserved to be praised. (: Thank you.

The SHA working on it? HA - that's a big joke, since nothing has happened at that intersection for months. This is just more SHA incompetence and laziness.

Im not sure if this is wear this happened, I was coming off the by-pass beside Hardy's when a rather obese gent drove me into Hardy's resteraunt . I noticed the dwool coming from this fat guys mouth, while he gazed at what must of been pure bliss to him.
I followed him straight to the drive threw and pulled along side of him.I sat there for at least 2 minutes while this elephant ordered enough food for three, except with only 1 drink. Finally it looked over and I motioned for him to roll his window down.
After doing so , I could tell he was so fixed on eatten he really didn't see nothing but 2/3 lbs burgers . Should there be a distance reg. on how close fast food drive threw's are to by-pass exits ? HE WAS REALLY HUNGRY AND ALMOST KILLED ME.
Come on Joe , fix-it ,huh ? Will you ? Huh ? I know you can. Your Joe . Idiot proof the city, You can do it. lol
