Tuesday Was Register a Criminal to Vote Day!

Yes folks, Tuesday inmates at the Worcester County Detention Center, Somerset County Detention Center, and Wicomico County Center were provided absentee ballots, voter registration forms and address change forms courtesy of the Maryland ACLU, and the Worcester County Chapter of the NAACP.

Apparently, criminals are disenfranchised and are not aware of their legal voting rights.

Criminals cannot be currently serving time or on parole if they would like to vote. But many of the folks who were registered today have not yet been convicted.

Accordingling, some crimes require a three year wait to vote, while others still prevent voting ever again.

It used to be up to the Criminal to find these things out, as being such good citizens I am sure that was foremost in their mind in their re-entry to society and wanting to be a good citizens. Now, thanks to the NAACP and the ACLU they no longer have to worry about that, as these organizations will be right there and register Americas finest.

This is the opitomy of BS, and shows the ever new lows that the NAACP and ACLU will stoop.

And the problem is what?

Doesn't leave me with a good feeling that people in prison with nothing to do but screw something else up while locked up are going to vote.

They have three hots and a cot, free healthcare, what do they care?

The right to vote is a "RIGHT" guarenteed by the Bill of Rights. We are a nation of laws after all. This ain't rummy.

Apparently people in jail don’t make the best decisions. Criminals picking our next president, senator, and voting on slots in Maryland may not again make the best decisions.

You forfeit your rights when you choose not to obey the law.

And you don’t have a problem with that because the overwhelming majority in jail will vote for Obama.

They were registering people who have not been convicted of anything. Innocent until proven guilty--a fundamental American belief. Imagine an America where simply being accused of soemthing means you lose your rights until you are proven innocent--not a place where I would want to live.

Yes, I totally get the 'innocent until proven guilty' and wholeheartedly agree with it.
Yes, I also get that voting is Right in America. I don't want to deny anyone a vote.
What I disagree with is that each and every one of these people whether thy are in jail or free had the opportunity to register. All they have to do is ask.
What I take issue with is that the ACLU and the NAACP are going after these votes!
Being in jail, or being involved in the legal system is no longer frowned upon by the culture, and instead of being shunned, they are being encouraged to participate in one of our most sacred rights.

I don't have a problem with that as these people haven't been convicted and may not.

Nothing about this is against any law of the land.

When and how you register ahould never be an issue. As long as you are registered

The only people who have a problem with this are people who want to suppress the vote.

If people are legally allowed to vote, what kind of a$$hole is in favor of DENYING them that right, wymzie?

All Felons loose their right to vote for life. Can never own a firearm. Wonder how many are registered to vote? Got to be a way to cross match and send them away at the polls with no vote.

They know all those junkies are going to vote democratic bc thats just how it is. And just like everyone in the ACLU and NAACP will also. SURPRISEEEEE.

I propose the NAAWP. Man would Jesse and Al have a field day with that one.......

And also, for the most part, if you are sitting in jail, your guilty of something.f

Rumor has it they were also canvassing some of neighborhoods in the area, going door to door.If someone has to come to your door(or jail cell) to get you off your ass to register to vote, then you really do not care too much about the whole electoral process.I think thats the point Wymzie was trying to make and some of you misunderstood it.Nobody says they cannot vote but come on,people.Anyone who truly wants to vote has sense enough to register and plenty of opportunity to.When you go to any local, state or federal government office you can do it.If one is too stupid to figure out that they have to actually register to vote, well ........

Thanks for the clarification Bluto!

I really think that there are much better things for these two organizations to be involved in.
Do they honestly believe that these people will make good members?
