This Comment Deserves To Be A Post

Mr. Albero:

I really enjoy your “year ago” and “2 years ago” retrospectives, but this week marks the 10th anniversary of a very momentous event: the initial election of Barrie P. Tilghman as mayor of Salisbury, which I believe occurred on May 4, 1998. On May 18, 1998, she was sworn in, and within a few days the devastation of Salisbury began with an assault that she directed against former Police Chief Dykes with the assistance of Robin Cockey and T. J. Maloney as de facto City Attorneys.

The rest, as they say, is now history (sad, but true).

I recall that in 1998 one of Tilghman’s major campaign pledges was to reduce City taxes and water&sewer rates, which she said were too high. And she attacked her opponent, Carolyn Hall, and incumbent Mayor Martin as being tools of the developers and landlords.

Do you think that we were snookered?

IS THE POPE A CATHOLIC!

Maybe the intent was to accomplish these things at the time, but sadly the results have been very contrary. It's time for these people to be replaced by those who are better equipped and prepared to deal with the complicated issues involved with running a city.
ITS TIME FOR HER TO GO. Next question, who to replace her?

Corruption galore.

Everywhere you look....corruption.

Well certainly NOT Bubba "growth pays for growth" Comegys.

The really tragic aspect was the Daily Times complicity in her election ten years ago and reelection in 2002 when she just barely beat a good person, Duke Shannahan. Since then it's been all downhill. She won easily in 2005 (the challengers were nonentities). The period from 2004-2006 ("Dream Team" was an absolute disaster with Comegys, Dunn and Cathcart as the three bobbleheads. Things are no better now, what with Shanie in 2005 and the Louweasel bamboozle in last year's election and later.

Salisbury is now on the brink of fiscal calamity due to Barrie's "leadership".

You could replace her with a monkey and have better results.

Barrie accused Carolyn Hall of being involved with those that backed her from the beginning. Salisbury was doomed the day they elected her and then reelected her.

Barrie can never aspire to be anything near 'excellence in leadership'--she has been a dismal example of the poorest of leaders.
Her history prior to even taking the helm of the City is replete with her track record of polorizing people and wrecking working relationships--those of us who know her history can attest to this--Salisbury is only her latest in a string of disasters she causes.

I think Mr. Albero ought to run. He wouldn't be afraid to take on the Good ole Boys.

I truly don't think it could get any worse so that is an easy question.

Okay, replace her with a monkey, or just anybody to do the same quality of job. But to do a better job? That's the question. Who will step forward and start getting ready to take over? As it appears, there needs to be someone with some professional training, or at least educated in urban planning...let's make certain we don't go from the frying pan into the fire.

Who in their right mind would want to inherit the mess this city is in and will only get worse?

I hope whoever it is will hire people with a spine

A spine and a brain.
It's going to take some effort to get organized and have the various departments working together as a team, with the same objectives....to serve the city AND the citizens.
What a concept.

Whoever runs and wins, provided they are HONEST, I hope they clean house of any of Barries appointees. When we vote the trash out of office we need to take all the trash out of the administration.

John Pick...watch your back Loraise is being groomed to fill your position. You might find yourself out on your ear and you'll have no one to thank but Barrie Parsons Tilghman and her council scheme team.
