Let's not hurt Jim Ireton by putting labels on him like savior.
Assuming he does jump into the mayor's race, and assuming he wins (which would make my day), I'm sure Mr. Ireton is well aware, more so than many of us, just how bad things have gotten and just how hard the climb back up will be. I can't imagine it not taking years to recover.
Let's not set him to be seen as coming up short. I've caught him on PAC14 enough times to sense his sincerity and passion.
And one other thing sorely lack in our leaders (save 2): intelligence.
While I like the man, I'm not so sure he's the "one" to go up against this political machine. He will have to be ready for the onslaught sure to come from the opposition. And it ain't gonna be pretty. What has gone on before will be small potatoes by comparison.
Unless Mr. Ireton is ready to give up his teaching career for a number of years, being elected mayor next year would be bad for him and the public. The City is in a shambles, and job 1 would be to clean house in the mayor's office, It would be necessary to be a full time mayor unless and until a competent staff could be assembled and proven as such, which would take at least 1-2 years. Even then it's likely that the mayor's job would be full time for the entire 4 year term just to manage the crises caused by Barrie Tilghman.
And even if he is willing to do all that, he may not have the needed skills or the toughness that will be required to deal with her "legacy" to the City of Salisbury.
The question the opposition party must ask is...who is best positioned to defeat the Tilghman machine? If Ireton and Caldwell are the leaders - than a serious discussion of how to broaden the appeal of one of them should be had. Both are reasonable people ready to lead, the question is...who can win?
I'd like to see some candidates that will really give Bubba a run for the border.
I'd like to see several candidates that would make mincemeat out of him in a few debates. Let's go ahead and stick a fork in him before he's even dunn o¿~

Blessed be the meek for they shall inherit the earth (Salisbury)
They better wake up and see the light!
Go Jimmy! You got my vote!
Salisbury's Savior? I think so.

The saviours of this city are those citizens that dare to oppose the reign of terror imposed on us all for the past 10 years.
Long live the Dirty Dozen and the CAVE people!
