In Memory of Lon Chaney

Lon Chaney as Phantom of the Opera

I almost let today go by without mentioning that it is Lon Chaney's birthday(April 1,1883).Not to be confused with his son,Lon Chaney Jr.,also a horror actor,Lon Chaney Sr. was best known for his role in "Phantom of the Opera". A century later, his silent horror films are still chilling.

No relation that I know of yet. My cousin was looking into it and she did talk to Lon Chaney JR.'s grandson. Lon JR. was born in Boston just as my father was. My Grand father was a sailor and was born in 1895 LoL so who knows? The time line fits.

Lon, Jr. (a name I forbid my son from using, but who listens to their father?) was born Creighton Tull Chaney in Oklahoma City, OK. Tim, what was your grandfather's name?

Sadly, I am related (albeit distantly) to Dick Cheney. So, if you're related to me, you're related to him. Another variation of the family surname is Chayney. Spellings can vary according to region, even though they're from the same lineage.

Oops, I made a typo. The correct spelling of that surname variation is Cheyney.

Looks like l.f. is right Lon Jr was born on Oaklahoma and his father was born in Colorado according to a google search. Don't know how my cousin got that info if she talked to Lon Jr.'s grandson.

My grandfather born in Boston was named Mureen Duvall Chaney. A lot of people ask me if I am related to Dick LoL I always say no and if I was I wouldn't claim him : )

Tim, is your great-grandfather named Alpheus, Leonidas or Silas? These are my uncles. My grandfather is James L. Chaney whose father is John Chaney, the Ohio congressman. My great-uncles are John, Napoleon, Hugh, Oliver and Edward. My great-great-grandfather is Nathan Cheney, with an "e". John is his only boy.
