City Employee Says.......

"[To ALL you critics of the council] The City council and city employees work hard and long hours so that you as residents may enjoy a good quality of life. Yes, we have a right to drink bottled water or water from the cooler. We also have doughnuts or some other treats. Most companies treat their employees to some kind of food treat periodically. It builds morale and entices employees to work harder. Makes them feel appreciated. That's the way things are. Stop your bitching and work for the city if you qualify. Stop being envious of city employees. It is apparent we have a nit-picking group that isn't pleased with anything led by Joe Albero
who pleasures himself by making the lives of others miserable.Maybe someone will buy him a one way ticket to hell."

I hope person who posted that comment reads this, I actually feel stupid typing this out, but maybe that person just doesn't understand.

To whom it may concern,
A private company earns profits when it is successful, and the more successful the company, the more profits they earn. Often CEO's, company presidents, managment, or other employees of said company will initiate a rewards program that involves purchasing items such as food and drink, but can go as far as paid vacations, tickets to concerts and sporting events, and material prizes like televisions and ipods. The company, upon approving the program, uses company profit to make these purchases. That is, the company makes less money because some of it is being invested into the moral of company employees in an effort to improve or reward performance.

If your "company" is actually a government entity, you are not a profit generating entity. You actually work for the taxpayers of the city, county, state, and country where you are employeed. Any and all money spent by you or your supervisors is actually money TAKEN FROM taxpayers, NOT EARNED IN A FREE MARKET environment. If your supervisor decides to spend money on a reward program, they are entitled to do that only after the expendatures have been accounted for in a pre-approved budget.

The issue with the water bottles is simple. Tax dollars have been spent (millions of dollars) to provide city residents with a clean, healthful, and reliable water supply. To spend additional monies on bottled water when the city's own supply is readily available is a waste. It is a case of redundant spending.

To illustrate my point, why doesn't your supervisor just go and purchase the water with his/her own money, and provide it free to all departmental employees. The answer is simple. Your boss wouldn't do that because he/she doesn't want to waste his/her own money. On the other hand, your boss doesn't seem to mind wasting taxpayer money, nor do you seem to mind reaping the benefits of money spent but not earned.

I hope this long comment has helped illustrate the point, but part of me believes that you will never understand my point of view.

Thanks for reading,

Where I work the managers pay for the donuts and treats, they are much more appreciated when you know your boss paid for them, you know you've been doing good work.

mbbisnotme--well puy. May I pick on you for one thing? You said "...the compnay makes less money because some of it is being invested into the moral of the company employees in an effort to improve or reward performance." Don't we all wish that our money could be invested into the "moral" (read morals) of our city employees, especially the mayor, city administrator and his underlings, attorney and his cronies, and 3 disgusting Council members? Instead, it goes for their "morale," such as trips to learn how to win the All-American City award, chocolates at Council meetings, (does she pay for her own? If she does, sorry.), etc. But the analogy was great, mbbisnotme, and thanks for writing it.

I work for the Federal Government and the people in my office buy our own water, coffee, ect. People in our office pool together and pay a fee each month for access to items that they want. I end up spending a LOT less than I would if I bought the items myself and it's at no cost to the tax payers (well I guess except the electricity to keep the water cool and the coffee warm).

I am beginning to understand why the city has so many problems. If the respondents to these threads are voters, then they are getting just what they deserve. They are all worked up over this little rumor that has no factual evidence whatsoever to back it up. It has been stated numerous times that this water is distilled water, for use in testing and equipment calibrations, not for drinking. Has anyone even made an inquiry to the city for an official response to these allegations? Or is it easier to sit here and type a bunch of petty accusations and complaints?

It only takes an 8th grade education to work for the city, from what I understand!

Excuse me, did I miss something?
I don't know of anyone envious of people working for the city. Who would want to work with the likes of BPT, Ms. Oland, and a few others. It doesn't interest me one bit to get paid to look bad.
I do feel bad for the people who work for the city and do a fine respectable job with all the crap that surrounds them on a daily basis. It is a shame that innocent people get lumped into the same pile as those who give the city a bad rep. Maybe that perception can change when we get some people at the helm that have at least what appears to be a balanced view of the city and the citizens---not to mention a balanced checkbook.

Oh, I forgot to say-I have utmost respect for Mrs. Cohen, who is part of the council.

It concerns me that such a self-serving person works for the taxpayers. His or her very ideology is contrary to that of a public servant. That they feel entitled to free stuff makes me wonder if they help themselves to office supplies, toilet paper, etc.
You can't be a "tiny bit" dishonest. Either you are or you aren't.

When I was a Supervisor, I spent my own money for my workers during the summer for water and snacks. This was never revealed until they asked for more of the same on a requision. As a Retiree, I can't get a job for the City or County, strange. Now all City workers are not lazy bums only about 30%. That is a fair estimate. What about the ones who ride through these College Housing Complexes. Such as Chiefy riding around with his cell stuck in his ear talking, and laughing, Dump trucks with hot mix or empty, Front end loaders, Large 6 wheelers, small 6 wheelers pulling trailers, pickups etc.. All of them had between 1-6 workers in them riding around staring at the female residents. This happens in the morning between 8-11 am. This happens all day but that is when they are most prevelent. Working HA HA? That is your tax dollars at work. I saw this with my own eyes. As for as the Council, include the Mayor, you have 4 useless decision makers for the Tax Payers. The other moochers are the results of the GOOD OLE BOY hiring practices. AEN

Yes, I sure would likle to know if our hard erned tax dollars are being waisted like this in City hall. I think I do know the answer to that and it doesn't surprise me at all that the mayor will write checks and spend tax dollars without the proper approval of the city council and even outside the limits of the approved budget. This woman is out of control!

Since when does Culligan bottle 5 gallon jugs of distilled water for a water dispenser? Joe's got pictures of what I saw. As soon as I saw it I pointed it out.

Do you have evidence that this is what they are buying at Food Lion with their chemical account money? Remember, the original thread was started with the allegation of misappropriation of these funds being used to buy drinking water.

All you need are knuckles that drag the ground to qualify for city employment. I don't want to take away from the many city employees that have given long term respectable service.

As another person said, who would want to work under the likes of what we have as so-called-leaders? They are bumbling morons, whose actions affect their employees.

I hear so many lies it's hard to believe anything. So I strayed off topic slightly, come on, tell me about the drinking coolers. Or, would you prefer not to discuss it? Like one of them thar "No Comment's."

your worried about a little water for the city employees? I forget, how much did Lewis steal from county?

Anonymous said...

i don't think that is the point he was trying to make, accountability in all government spending is the point I believe. i can see how someone that works for the city wouldn't quite understand though with the examples they have for superiors. at least Lewis confessed to his wrong doings and he should suffer the consequences.

The SECRET Is Out *****Detective Nose has just announced the following.Water bottles are bought so that everyone is supposedly drinking water. The rumor is that vodka is in the Mayor's bottle. Might not be true. It might be half water and half something else. I don't know. Just going by what the custodian's nose said who empties the Mayor's waste can. Most noses are accurate They can tell the difference between vinegar, shit and alcohol, etc.
