Beating A Dead Horse

Today's Sunday Daily Times is a flat out Joke! They rehash stories from the past and quite frankly continue to kick Davis Ruark while he's down.

Greg Bassett and Davis Ruark had what seemed to be a fairly decent friendship, until recently. My guess is that Mayor Tilghman is riding Bassett to the end of his line attempting to do what she has been trying to do for many years, get rid of Davis Ruark.

Well, screw Greg Bassett and we all know how I feel about Barrie Tilghman. Did you call his Pastor too Greg? I mean, you rehashed every single detail today in your Front Page article and have beaten it to death. The City found $19,000,000.00 in cash floating around AFTER a 14% Tax Increase and you choose to drag Davis into the ground as far as humanly possible? Oh, has the Daily Times even printed a story about this? NOPE! Who's best interest do they have in mind?

I have explicit instructions of possible illegal streams allegedly created by Rai Sharma that go from the Landfill all the way to the Wicomico River, you say NOTHING! Back when the graffiti was all over the walls of buildings in Downtown Salisbury, you wanted nothing to do with it, until my Blog finally forced your hand because even back then we were growing so fast you felt the pressure and finally gave in.

Today you have an editorial bashing Jordan for TRYING to do what is right. IF he was going to be such a FAILURE at his attempt, why give it ANY attention at all and suggest to your readers it has failed every other time in the past. First of all, you make it sound as if there have been numerous attempts in the past. Pretty sad for that Bible Hugging Biotch that so many would allegedly chose to try to recall her, eh? Then there's the fact that it has actually only happened once before, as far as I know. There was no Blogs back then and YOU were the only rag people listened to. Boy how times have a changed.

Man, I could go on and on for quite some time here but my point is well made, you'll stab ANYONE in the back and sell yourself like a whore just to sell a Sunday Paper. I'll bet more people right now would be interested in what might be polluting the River than anything to do with Davis Ruark at this point.

To Mr. Sam Vincent, pay close attention to who your friends are and remember that Greg Bassett is only interested in the money he can make off of you, just like a prostitute. Has anyone ever seen Sam Vincent out with the Mayor in public before?

Why are they beating this dead horse? Why are they picking on Jordan? If they're that critical of human behavior, how could the mayor have escaped their poison pen?
Editorials are commentaries by thoughtful journalists, so the name of that page in the Daily Times should not be the editorial page. It needs to be changed to something more fitting. How about "Words From the Whipped"?

Anything the Bassett hound publishes as an editorial is dead in the waters before it see's the ink for the page. The really sad thing is, that he is begining to understand that himself, so there may be a day when he does what's right by the newspaper he produces.
All we can do is hope.

Joe, just curious, how would you react if the Daily Times began printing information that they had not verified or investigated? I know they are under legal obligation to do so and a blog is not, however, information you are posting is bieng posted and took by people as factual. One item I am talking about is the mention of the "illegal" streams. Joe, if you would investigate this and maybe ask questions to the proper people, I think you may be suprised. Maybe even impressed at the lenghts taken to try to ensure that the bad stuff from the landfill stays in the landfill. We all know what kind of stuff is put in their and I am sure there is no way possible something dosent escape, but people have to dispose of their waste somewhere, and all the county can do is try and put the best environmental checks in place. Dont you think the landfill gets visits from different state and federal agencies that monitor such things. The pipe crossing brick kiln rd is not hidden. If it was a big secret, that pipe could have crossed in such a way that no one would know it. If you wish to keep posting false information, I guess that is within your rights and I guess will get you more hits. But if you are truly interested in supplying SALISBURY with NEWS, I think you need to dig a little deeper into what you print than just go by what people tell you that sounds good at the time.

In light of what's going on in the River, I believe this subject needs to be scrutinized much further.

If it was so well known, why didn't ANY Council Member OR the County Executive aware of it?

40 years ago you could swim in the Wicomico River.

WHY didn't the Public know about the Sludge Pit at the WWTP?

WHY didn't the Public know about the illegal wells drilled at the WWTP that were being run off directly into the River and the MDE shut them down?

WHY wasn't the Public aware of the illegal pipes flowing feces and waste out of exhibts, (yes, I said exhibits, not exhibit) into the River?

WHY wasn't the Public aware there was NO reverse valve in the Zoo that was in fact allowing raw human waste into the moats in two exhibits in the Zoo?

Try using your own damage control all you want, the Taxpayers have a right to know just how crooked the City & County have been.

Here's the worse part of all Ladies & Gentlemen. Municipalities CAN do so without breaking the law and paying the fines like a Corporation would.

Go check that one out Mr. Anonymous 11:35! The City WILL install that 6 ft. tall pipe into the River from the Camden area all the way down to Brew River? They don't care if they get permits or not from the MDE.

I believe my Post is worthy, just as MANY others I have exposed. I'm batting a thousand, how about you?

The same people also take for granted that what they read in the Daily Crime is factual, that could be no further from the truth.

I wouldn't count out that the new facility the paper is working out of will apply for tax breaks on newly purchased equiptment.

Everyone else is bleeding the taxpayers, why should they be any different?

Dear anonymous 11:35,

If you think the Daily Times investigates and prints the facts, then you are in la-la land.

Case in point is their editorial this morning, trying to say a college student's effort to recall the mayor is backed by the same people who did the other recall, the tax hike referendum, etc., etc.

Not a shred of evidence, in fact, all indicators point away from it.

But by golly, they'll smear the blame jelly any way they can, instead of investigating whose really behind the kid.

Dear Anon 12:58 PM

I do believe that article is in the opinion section whereas an opinion is not necessarily factual, or correct, that is why it is an opinion. As for my statement about the daily times, that is only an example. The media has an obligatin to verify information before it is broadcasted, Joe evidentally does not. He keeps throwing out examples of the Zoo and WWTP. They are all city issues. I didnt say the pipe crossing brick kiln rd was well known, i said it wasnt hidden. There are hundreds if not thousands of pipes that cross under county roadways, I am sure that the council cannot describe where they are all at either, it doesnt mean that there is something underhanded with them. I just think it would be worthwile for you to look into it further before automatically drawing assumptions. Maybe you could find the name of the independant water tester and see what kind of numbers they are drawing. That would be news.

The Daily Times is owned by the largest newspaper conglomerate in America and they operate with no competition as far as other newspapers. This means their business is secure because advertisers don\\\\\\\'t have another option. They have no real reason to adhere to public accountability. They have threatened locally owned media and attempt to drive them out of business with less than admirable tactics. They are afraid of competition because they are not confident in their own publications. It is easier for them to strong-arm the competition and throw money at their problems than it is for them to compete. With the recent sale of the Dover Post in Delaware, there are only a handful of media outlets on the eastern shore that are not owned by some media conglomerate or investment group. If the public continues to allow this, there will not be any left in at all.

Anon 12:58,

Anon 11:35 works for DT. While I don\\\'t like DT, I feel I should say that in an opinion piece, you can make any accusations that you want. It is, after all, an opinion. They have a right to it as much as we do. DT will say what they will, but if this is to succeed, word must get out. The DT will not help so other outlets are necessary. Explaining to the public our position through Word of mouth, this blog, flyers, etc. will do more for the cause than engaging in a flame war with the DT.

In Ref, daily times/rag. I have been a local police officer for a number of years here. In that duty I have written/reviewed numerous reports. I learned in my first year when I arrested a political figure and the daily rag read the report I wrote and then write an article in their paper on the event. It was as if I was reading an event that I never was involved in. The facts from the report were backwards, missing, incorrect so much so that it led to a total different belief. I was friends with a person who became a local newspaper writer and then I was involved with another political arrest, wow was I surprised by the article that was written, something that could not have been farther from the truth. One fact, that had nothing to do with the arrest was headlined, nothing about the major that did happen. I talked to that person once before they moved away for a bigger job, that person apologized for writing it, stating that they were forced to put that spin on it, because it would sell more. I thanked them for telling me the truth and hope they got what they wanted. I will never believe, receive, read the daily rag ever again. I can not count how many times they printed inaccurate, factually missing articles. I wish there was a law that made them more accountable for what they write, because nothing has held them so until your blog has. Thanks Joe, we needed this.

What about having to man up and post your name? That's right, if it's anonymous and agrees with you it's OK. Otherwise everyones a PUSSEY.

The editorials put out by the Times are opinions.

But since they are based on the background of their own stories, and since they are theoretically more informed than their readership, they are supposed to give a more informed, less emotional opinion.

Today's failed miserably. It was full of innuendo and contained a smug arrogant style that tells me Bassett, not Parker, did the actual writing. Possibly Sahler, but still, I'd wager on Bassett.

The Daily Times has long been strong in its opinions. But since the Gannett Corp. took it over, it has favored the flame-throwing style of it parent company, engaging in the corporate practice of unduly insinuating itself INTO the news, rather than reporting it.

Activist Journalism, if you will.

The high irony is, that many of things they abhor about blogs they commit themselves. These are things that are far more dangerous under the guise of "respectable journalism" (quaint oxymoron) than under the glow of what is known to be the common man's opinion.

Tsk.

"Anon 11:35 works for DT"

I dont know how you drew that assumption but it is incorrect, I do not work for the Daily Times, and like most other people on this site, do not like their paper. I do think it is funny that if you dont agree with everything posted on this blog you either work for the DT or are friends with the Mayor. Quite the contrary in this instance. I just happen to disagree with Joe on a couple of issues here lately. Im sure Joe can respect that. For the most part I have tended to agree with the vast majority of the things he has brought up, but I wont be a puppet and just because Joe said so, believe it is so.

like you beat the horse with Barry Tilghman and co. You say that you are unbiased. I beg to differ. Why is it that you want her head on a platter but you think that because Davis Ruark appologized that he can walk unpunished. He is guilty by his own admission now he needs to do the punishment just as anyone else would. I agree that it is honorable that he said he was sorry but if it were to be Barry sorry would not even be close. It would never be good enough...is there a double standard here? Is it because she is not in your good ole boy club?

joe albero said...

I'll tell you why, you dumb son of a bitch. Because Davis Ruark has made ONE, count it again, ONE mistake. Barrie Tilghman ghas screwed me personally as well as thousands of taxpaters time and time again. There's no double standard here Idiot. I'll stop right there because that should hopefully shut your fat trap about this issue.

It is entertaining to me how so many of us still view the Daily Disspointment as a creditable news source.
One only needs to read todays paper to realize just how devoid of news it actually is. You have to wonder who is responsbile for such a farce.
Hopefully we will soon return to he funnies being printed in color on the front page and black and white for the following pages.
