Rick Pollitt's Office Returns With A Reason Behind The $23.00 Pens

As you can clearly see from the first photo, County Executive Rick Pollitt is very concerned when he first learned of the $23.00 pen.

However, Rick's Office told me yesterday that the money did NOT come from the General Fund or Property Tax Revenue. The money to pay for those pens came from the County Room Tax & Hotel Tax.

OK, I'm going to leave the rest of this alone and let everyone make their own comments about this one.

Why are you "hands off" about this nonsense:

"Rick's Office told me yesterday that the money did NOT come from the General Fund or Property Tax Revenue. The money to pay for those pens came from the County Room Tax & Hotel Tax."

It doesn't matter where the funds originated the pens are still $23. What was the purpose of the pens. I find that a $2 pilot is pricey but is one of the best writing pens out on the market. Were these pens used for an achievement marker perhaps?

and that makes it okay?

OK! so what Mr. Pollitt is telling us is that County Room & Hotel Tax which is levied by the County as part of its revenue source may be spent by Mr.Mackes as he sees fit.
Rick, needs to spend less time coddling some of his department heads and more time getting a grip on the silly and un-necessary expenditures.Sure hope my taxes do not go up by $23.00.

A question for the elected County Executive. How many pens were purchased, how much was the total cost and who were they purchased from?
An lastly had the money for the pens not have been spent would it have ended up in the County piggy bank, or the Parks & Rec slush fund.

If you click on the photo it will enlarge it. Once you do you'll see how many pens were ordered and what the total was.

Was one of these, really expensive, pens used to sign the invoice for that really "gaudy" sign at the entrance to the Tourism bldg?
When you ride by,what used to be a very symbolic scene, you have to ask yourself is this supposed to be a very attractive gateway to Wicomico County or a future home for a casino.

This is a lot more serious than those pens (from prior post):

Inquiring minds want to know:

When Holloway and other members of the Council go to those "MACO" meetings in OC (summer) and Cambridge (winter) do they commute or stay in resort hotels like the Hyatt and Princess Royale at the taxpayer's expense????

Inquiring Minds:

A good source says that when certain council members go to those meetings in Ocean City they stay there and the County covers the tab. It's called "to the victor go the spoils", stupid.

Maybe someone can ID the perpetrators

Me thinks, I smell and investigation of this "pen" Watergate by the Great Man. Who else can we trust to get the answers and report to the tax payers.
Who knows there may even be some mis-appropriation going on.

From the look on Mr. Pollitt's face I assume he neither received one of the pen's as a gift, nor signed a purchase order for them to be bought.
Embarress me once shame on me, embarress me twice shame on you!

I clicked on the picture and I still can't read the number of pens and who they were ordered from. Crummy graphics program on my computer I guess. What's the scoop please?

Looks like $570. How many soccer balls could we buy with that?

I just realized that if you turn your computer upside down you can read the business card under the pen.If you look real close at the invoice you can make out how many pens were ordered and almost make out the amount. However, some one for some reasons scratched out the sub-total and total. You don't suppose they used the, very, pen in the picture to commit that dasterdley dead.
Oh, well its only several hundred dollars, whats the big deal. They were still cheaper than land on Crooked Oak La.

3:05pm if you look again, that invoice originally had sales tax added.

It looks like someone crossed out the sales tax, and wrote in a sales tax exemption number to avoid such added costs.

So now the question is: Can the county purchase "gifts" for others tax-free? Is this an abuse of the sales tax exemption granted by the state?

we want to know how many pens, from whom, to whom as well as why mackes has access to funds in the county from room taxes. thot they were supposed to go to roads. is he really allowed to write a check for whatever he wishes. and last but not least, how do you get on his gift list?
