"2" Years Ago Today

Today marks the first day I will start producing photos from 2 years ago today. Here we were in the Chipman Center while the almost $100,000.00 repairs were being done on the elevator in the GOB. As I recall, I called some friends of mine at Ottis Elevator and they told me I could have a brand new one built from the ground up for around $100,000.00 and they don't make cheap elevators.

That day, Barrie Tilghman was doing a PAC14 Me, Me, Me, show with the Chief of Police, Comegys and any other sucker that would kiss up to the Queen that day. At least she wore a jacket.

The Old Mall was a HUGE topic at the time as you can see Mike Dunn tugging at his ears. We're getting there Folks, little by little.

It's two years (and a lawsuit that cost the City lots in legal fees to lose in court) later, but the mall saga is a continuing absurdity, albeit with the building finally demolished. The City's TIF subsidy ($15 Million) for that and other site work looks like a real debacle -- rumor is that the bonds were "sold" by the City to the owner of the mall -- and the main developer of the residential part (Hovnanian) is now suing the mall owner to cancel their contract. And then there's the future prospects for the housing market in general.

If there's anything of public benefit it is that the mall fiasco introduced Terry Cohen to many city residents who voted for her in last year's city council election.

Holy cow, Joe, can you find out if it's true that the mall owners bought the bonds for the mall TIF???? What kind of shell game is that, if it's true?

I remember Terry Cohen even before the mall when she spoke about on TV about 4 to 2 being about zoning, not college students. So glad she came to the forefront and stepped forward to run. A breath of fresh air on how elected officials should conduct themselves.

At the heart of the Old Mall debackle is, Doody who looks bagged in that picture tugging his ear like Carol Burnett. Then other players in the Mall debackle are Carthcat LOL, Bubba and Shanie.
