Who Needs A Press Pass?

If there's ever been a question as to "who is press" and who is not, go here.

PhotoJournalism
"Professional photojournalist Mark M. Hancock discusses photojournalism and the eccentricities associated with gathering images for major U.S. daily newspapers."

Perhaps Mike Dunn, Barrie Tilghman and others should read this first before they continue on the path of my not being considered Media or Press.

I think I'll have a chat with Sheriff Mike Lewis and see what he'd be willing to offer me?

All you can come up with about "media" is another blog post from 2003 by a professional photojournalist? Are you comparing yourself to him or simply trying to use his definition? Maybe the Council meetings should hand out credentials and let them decide who will receive them proir to the meeting and set up a bull pen for them.

I read your boy's post.

He seems like a professional photographer in that he WORKS, that is to say he gets PAID, to go out and take photos.

You do it for a perversion or hobby or to satisfy your urge to torture your subjects.

Do you honestly think that Mr. Hancock would take the kind of photos that YOU take, and then post along with snide and rude comments? How do (most of) your photos help tell the story? Joe your photos of the sewer plant are excellent work. It is your mean spirited photos/comments that turn most people off and denigrate the good work you have done. Your personal vendetta against the mayor and other city officials, cheapens your work.

When the President goes somewhere do you think EVERYBODY with a camera can just tag along? Next time there is a White House press conference, see if you can just stroll in there and start snapping away.

I am not an appologist for those that you target. Far from it. You might be surprised to find out that a lot of your ideas, I tend to agree with...

Under your definitions then, Kate, I am a landscaper because I've cut some grass and planted some flowers. I am also a carpenter due to the work done inside and outside my house. In addition, I'm a plumber because I unclogged our sink the other day. I guess I'm a journalist too since I've posted a few items here.

Nobody said you needed a degree. Nobody said that there were not free-lance journalists. Just questioning that the best example that was posted was from a professional, on another blog site...

Free-lance journalists get paid. Plus a press person reports the facts, he/she does NOT inject personal opinions and or attacks those that don't agree with thier thinking.

So, Joe's a journalist if he says he's one.

under that thinking...Then i'm a heart surgeon because I think I'm one.

If being a journalist requires that you only report the facts with no personal opinion added then 99% of the "legitimate" sources would not qualify either!!

I agree but part of being a responsible (KEYWORD: responsible) journalist is putting aside opinions to report facts. With that said, you'd be hard pressed to find writers who don't have some sort of agenda in at least one thing they write. In most cases, an editor suggests that the writer have multiple sources with a variety of opinions to allow for both, or multiple sides of the story to be told. When you're on deadline, though, this isn't always possible.

Unfortunately, most stories come with a bias already attached and being able to work around that is tricky. I know I was taught to report the facts, but today shit sells when it's ugly and full of finger pointing.

Hadley said on his own Blog......

"Joe Albero contributes nothing to the written content of this blog except when specifically noted."

Considering "YOU" wrote everything on your Blog, you wrote all the nasty things under the photos I provided.

Wow, you guys have gone off on a huge tangent just trying to justify yourselves...calling Joe media so he can act like channel 47 at a council meeting and ignore the president's request when asked to sit. Like it or not, Mike Dunn is the president (someone elected him...) and the meetings are his to preside over. It's his room and his meeting. Just because channel 47 is disrupting the proceedings doesn't mean that you can too. There has been a lot of energy put into trying to prove that Joe is media, just so he can act like that.

In case you missed it, I read this blog too. It's my opinion and I'm ok with that. I'm sure that you guys are ok with your opinions also. If you didn't want outside posts, then meet in private or limit the postings...just saying.

I beg to differ, however council meetings and anything associated with government, is bought and paid for by the taxpayers. The taxpayers also pay the salaries of it's representatives, that they are "supposed," to represent.

Spiro T Agnew, Marvin Mandell, are among a few knuckle heads that were also voted into office and abused their, "Privilege to serve the people." Elected to office, doesn't give you a get out of jail free card, or make you right on every issue.

I have no idea where you folks are at but it seems to me that the only reason to keep or kick any cameras out of a public meeting is that they have something to hide. The politicians in this country need to realize that this is OUR government not theirs and whether the reporting sucks or not it's reporting and an alternate view from the spinthat the politicians put out.
