Dorchester Hospital To Shut Its Doors!

This is NOT a good sign at all for the future. It looks like everyone will have to travel to Easton or Salisbury. Good for PRMC but very bad for Cambridge.

Come on Daily Times, it's time to play catch up.

Not a big surprise.

When Easton Memorial bought them (what, 8 years ago) the first thing they said is "we're shutting them down", but the outcry was overwhelming from both Talbot and Dorchester counties.

Now that University of Maryland Medical System essentially owns Easton Memorial, it was only a matter of time before they ponied up to lock the doors before replacing the facility in Easton.

The mid-shore (Dorchester, Talbot, Queen Anne's, and Kent) really does need a serious upgrade in acute care services. With the mid-shore essentially as one big Suburb of the megalopolis, getting across the bay bridge in an ambulance is not a trick worth trying.

Even though I am relatively young I have had several fairly significant surgeries performed in the last decade and none have been performed on the "Shore". Anne Arundel Medical Center is perhaps the best overall experience from pre-op testing to all rooms being private, one nurse for each group of 3 rooms, relatively good food, pleasant staff, overnight accomadations for your spouse and on and on. Similar factors exist at Sinai Hospital,St. Agnes,Johns Hopkins and these are just the ones I have recent personal experiences with. Each of these hospitals have a very good patient factor common to all and that is COMPETITION! Interestingly enough this same factor is missing on the "Shore" and handicaps all of us for local quality medical care. I would be hard pressed to have any procedure done here on the "Shore" as a result of my experiences elsewhere and the nightmares I've experienced locally at PRMC.I'll stop short of my own local nightmare healthcare experiences and end with this I have more confidence in my Labradors vet than I have in our local healthcare system and with no competition on the horizon I'll continue to go elsewhere,as do many local healthcare professionals, for my medical needs.
