sixties slang 60s slang 1960s

The 1960s era had some of its own slang where some of these began in the 1960s era while others were just passed down. Some of these words and phrases are still used by our kids and grandchildren. A Gas - Having a lot of fun.
All Show and No Go - Pretty car. Nice wheels and so forth. Looks good put has no go power.
Ape: Used with verbs gone or went. (i.e. "When I came home an hour late my parents went ape.)
BA - Could mean Bare All or Bare Ass.
Bad - Awesome
Bad Ass - Tough guy
Bag - Meant to steal. Who bagged my wallet? Also "what's your bag?", which meant "What's your problem?"
Ball - To Party as in Little Richard's song "Good Golly Miss Molly, you sure like to ball." Also meant to have intercourse.
Bum a Smoke - Borrow a cigarette from another person [Thanks to Leslie Hardman, Orient, Ohio]
Beat Feet - Leave the area quickly.
Birth Control Seats - Referred to cars with bucket seats
Bitchin' - Good, great, or awesome
Blast - Had a great time like "I had a blast at the dance."
Blitzed - Drunk
Book - Leave the scene
Bookin' - Going real fast
Boss - Cool or fantastic - The new album I just bought is boss!
Bread - Money
Brew - Beer
Brody or Brody Out - To skid half a circle with your brakes locked up.
Bug Out - Leave the premises
Bummed Out - Depressed
Burn Rubber - Squeal out with your tires spinning and leaving rubber on the asphalt.
Candyass - A Wimp or uncool thing or person.
Cat- Guy
Catch some Z's - Go to sleep [thanks to Gloria Damrod of Sebring, Ohio]
Cherry - Pristine or mint condition. That car is cherry!
Chick - girl or woman
Chicken (To Play) - Two cars drive head on towards each other and the first to pull away is a coward.
Chinese Firedrill - A Car is stopped at a red light and all occupants of the car get out of the car andrun around it and get back in the car while holding up traffic.

Under legislation submitted by Mr. Hogan, the state would provide an income tax credit to companies that donate money to qualified student financial assistance programs. The total amount that could be deducted under the proposed Maryland Education Credit would be limited to $5 million next year, $10 million the following year and then $15 million after that.

New images have emerged showing dozens of black balaclava-wearing extremists graduating from an Islamic State-run school of terror in northern Syria.

Brandishing AK47 assault rifles and waving flags carrying the sinister black and white ISIS logo, the photographs showing the jihadi 'Class of 2015' are believed to have been taken in Raqqa city.

Although the are dressed in head-to-toe black and wear balaclavas that cover most of their faces, it is clear that the majority of the graduates are teenagers who have been brainwashed into thinking they are holy warriors, when the reality is they will be used as little more than cannon fodder.

A blind artist's altruistic vision

You've got to wonder, looking at these paintings, with their vibrant colors and deep textures: Howdoes this artist see the world?

Truth is, he really can't.

Twenty-one-year-old Jeff Hanson is legally blind. He also has a few other physical and mental challenges, but that hasn't stopped him -- or apparently even slowed him down.

He's done about 1,400 paintings to date. "My mom keeps track for me," he said.

Traffic agents seeing red over uniform color change

The NYPD plans to replace the department-blue uniforms used by some of its traffic enforcement agents — a move that has provoked a firestorm of opposition from workers who claim the distinctive new duds will imperil their safety, The Post has learned.

“They’re talking about giving us a green color shirt and jacket, green baseball cap and black pants. We’ll look like the Joker!” said Shajahan Mohammed, the Manhattan delegate for Local 1182, the agents’ union. “These uniforms will make the job more dangerous for workers. Right now, people think we are law enforcement.”

There are two types of traffic enforcement agents: those who perform traffic patrols at intersections and those who issue tickets for parking violations.

Salisbury Suspends Fraternity Accused 'Of Hazing

Salisbury University has suspended its Phi Beta Sigma fraternity chapter for hazing, after members were reported to have hit pledges with paddles and held forced workouts at an off-campus house, school officials said.

The chapter of fewer than 10 students was suspended through the spring 2017 semester, Salisbury Dean Valerie Randall-Lee said.

Neither Phi Beta Sigma's national executive director nor the local chapter could be reached for comment Monday evening.

New hepatitis C drugs cost Medicare billions

Medicare spent $4.5 billion last year on new, pricey medications that cure the liver disease hepatitis C — more than 15 times what it spent the year before on older treatments for the disease, previously undisclosed federal data shows.

The extraordinary outlays for these breakthrough drugs, which can cost $1,000 a day or more, will be borne largely by federal taxpayers, who pay for most of Medicare’s prescription drug program. But the expenditures will also mean higher deductibles and maximum out-of-pocket costs for many of the program’s 39 million seniors and disabled enrollees, who pay a smaller share of its cost, experts and federal officials said.

Setting Sustainability Standards for the Chesapeake Bay

When it comes to sustainability in the Chesapeake Bay, good intentions don’t always lead to effective outcomes. Now a team of University of Maryland Extension (UME) experts are helping to ensure certain practices meant to protect the Bay will actually deliver results like pollution reduction by creating a certification program for landscape professionals in the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

UME’s Watershed Protection and Restoration Program (WPRP) team was approached by the Chesapeake Conservation Landscaping Council approximately six years ago proposing a certification program now known as the Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professionals (CBLP) Certification Program. The program has since received a $200,000 grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation as well was $30,000 from the Prince Charitable Trust, Keith Campbell Foundation, and UMD Extension.

“The goal of CBLP is to create a trained workforce that designs, builds, and installs sustainable small-scale landscape practices that measurably decrease the amount of nutrient and sediment pollution going to local rivers and streams,” said Jennifer Dindinger, Watershed Restoration Specialist for MarylandSea Grant Extension.

Md. DLLR: Jos. A. Bank to lay off workers

BALTIMORE —Jos. A. Bank Clothiers Inc. will lay off 122 workers from its corporate headquarters in Hampstead, the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation told 11 News.

The layoffs will not affect the adjacent distribution center and tailoring service.

Layoffs will take place between May 29 and Dec. 31.

Jos. A Bank and Men's Wearhouse Inc. announced a merger between the two companies in June.

NYPD cop behind Eric Garner chokehold sued over car crash

The NYPD officer who put Eric Garner in the chokehold that led to his death last summer is being sued — yet again.

Daniel Pantaleo was recently named as a defendant in a civil suit filed in Queens Supreme Court against the NYPD, which alleges that the officer crashed his police vehicle into another man’s car on Staten Island on June 20, causing him “severe and permanent” injuries.

Leonardo Aguirre claims that Pantaleo was speeding and following him too closely in his 2010 Chevrolet when the two got into an accident about 15 minutes away from the cop’s 120th Precinct stationhouse, according to legal papers filed with the city.

The crash on Clove Road at Martha St. left Aguirre with injuries to his neck, back, left shoulder and knees, the documents allege.
