MIT climate scientist Richard Lindzen slammed this week’s amendment introduced by Vermont socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders that would make it the official position of the Senate that man-made global warming is real and a threat.
Lindzen said Sanders’s amendment to a bill that approves the Keystone XL pipeline an “attempt to hijack science for political purposes.”
“Climate change is of course real; change being the normal state of affairs in climate,” Lindzen told Climate Depot. “Climate change has caused catastrophic problems on occasion throughout the earth’s history. While man may have contributed somewhat to climate change in recent years, his contribution to the above is highly questionable, and continues to be debated.”
“In the case of Bernie Sanders, a socialist, he is undoubtedly dreaming about nationalizing the energy industry,” Lindzen said. “For the U.S. Senate to accept guidance from Sanders’ bizarre dreams is ludicrous.”

Muslims stage angry protests over Charlie Hebdo's Mohammed cartoon
Muslims have staged angry protests across the world from Turkey to the Philippines over Charlie Hebdo's decision to depict the Prophet Mohammed on its latest front cover.
Around three million copies of the French satirical newspaper hit the stands this morning for the first since the terror attack on its office which killed 12 people.
The front cover showed a weeping Mohammed, holding a sign reading 'I am Charlie' with the words 'All is forgiven' above him.
Such was its immediate popularity, the print run has since been increased to five million after issues sold out within minutes.
Copies have since been changing hands on eBay for three-figure sums as customers rush to get their hands on the edition.
But many Muslims believe their faith forbids depictions of the prophet and reacted with dismay - and occasionally anger - to the latest cover image.
Some felt their expressions of solidarity with Charlie Hebdo after last week's attack had been rebuffed, while others feared the cartoon would trigger yet more violence.
'You're putting the lives of others at risk when you're taunting bloodthirsty and mad terrorists,' said Hamad Alfarhan, a 29-year old Kuwaiti doctor.

Jurors watch video in Vanderbilt football rape trial
Jurors in the rape trial of two former Vanderbilt football players watched dorm surveillance video on Thursday showing their alleged victim being carried inside and dragged out of an elevator.
Brandon Vandenburg and Cory Batey are accused of assaulting the 21-year-old unconscious woman in a dorm room in June 2013. Two other football players are also accused in the case.
The surveillance footage, which was discovered when officials were looking into vandalism, prompted the rape investigation.
Vanderbilt police Lieutenant Donnie Harville testified on Thursday that the video showed a male student walking naked out of a bathroom in the coed dorm.

Pizza Delivery Woman Shot Armed Robber Will Not Be Fired
Papa John’s Pizza says the DeKalb County, Georgia delivery woman who shot an armed robber that put a gun to her head will not be fired. She will, however, be “reassigned.”
Breitbart News previously reported that 24-year-old Donquaz Devon Stevenson put a gun to the pizza delivery woman’s head on January 1, and ordered her to the ground. The woman was able to reach her own gun and shoot the armed robber in self-defense.
Afterward, she worried that she would be fired by Papa John’s for carrying “a gun for protection.” But Papa John’s has now made clear they will not fire her. However, they do plan to “reassign” her.

Crisfield Police Warning, You Come Into Our Headquarters/Trailer, We're Gonna Search You
I was watching WBOC last night when a piece came up that had us cracking up. They actually sent a reporter all the way to Crisfield, (they must really be desperate) to show people there's a sign on the front door of the Police Department saying if you enter they have the right to search you.
They interviewed someone, (perhaps the Police Chief) and he compared Crisfield to the two Officers shot in New York City recently and they were going to protect themselves.
Well Chiefy, the Officers in NYC were actually on the job, on the street, working. Not sitting inside eating donuts and watching cable. Come on man, seriously? Do they really think someone is going to walk into a Police Department and just open fire in Crisfield?
Perhaps WBOC could conserve the gas and drive time sending people down there and actually do some investigative work on Labinol instead. You know, REAL news. The kind of news people are really interested in and not some 15 seconds of manufactured fame in Crisfield.

Schoolbook authors have been told not to write about sausages or pigs for fear of causing offence.
Guidance from leading educational publisher the Oxford University Press prohibits authors from including anything that could be perceived as pork-related in their books.
The bizarre clampdown, apparently aimed at avoiding offence among Jews and Muslims, emerged yesterday during a discussion about free speech on Radio 4’s Today programme.
It was immediately branded ‘nonsensical political correctness’.

Fox News, Dish Network reach deal, ending 3-week fight
Dish Network and Fox News reached an agreement Thursday to put the news network back on the satellite-TV service, ending a three-week fight that had left 14 million subscribers unable to watch the channel.
Terms of the deal weren't disclosed. But The Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the talks, said Dish is paying a "significant" increase for Fox News, which is one of the most popular networks, not just among news channels but entertainment and sports services as well.
Dish will also distribute Fox Business Network to more of its subscribers, sources told the paper.

Republicans head for bruising primary in 2016
GOP getting 'strong signal' that 'there's unrest at grassroots'
House Speaker John Boehner easily fended off an 11th-hour effort by conservatives to deny him another term, but longtime conservative activist Richard Viguerie says the Republican majorities in Congress need to take concrete steps to prove they are taking the nation down a more responsible path, or members can expect some bruising primaries in 2016.
Viguerie has been an active conservative for more than 50 years. He pioneered the use of direct mail in political campaigns. Viguerie is now chairman of ConservativeHQ.com and an author, most recently of “Takeover: The 100-Year War for the Soul of the GOP and How Conservatives Can Finally Win It.” He said the conservative insurgents failed on Tuesday but also delivered a clear message.
“I think this sends a strong signal to the leadership that there’s unrest at the grassroots,” said Viguerie, noting the next intraparty battle could unfold next year if GOP leaders don’t chart a solidly conservative course during the 114th Congress.
“The most important thing for conservatives to be focused on between now and election 2016 is the primaries,” he said. “I say, ‘It’s the primaries, stupid.’”
