O'Malley Loses 26,000 Manufacturing Jobs - Declares October Manufacturing Month

On Friday, Governor Martin O'Malley issued a proclamation declaring October 'Manufacturing Month,' and issued a press release talking about everything he was going to do to turn around manufacturing in the state. O'Malley reasoned, "manufacturing offers one of our greatest opportunities to strengthen our middle class, grow jobs and create new opportunities in Maryland."
"Governor O'Malley finally recognizes - six years too late - the importance of manufacturing to our economy. But we wholeheartedly disagree about the solution," stated Larry Hogan, business leader and Change Maryland Founder. "The O'Malley-Brown plan includes a whole lot of talk - more studies, commissions, roundtables, a monthly blog post, and even a proclamation - but no real solutions for an industry that has lost over 26,000 jobs since 2007, and has lost over 2,000 jobs between July and August of this year."
"The O'Malley-Brown administration has been openly hostile to manufacturing and the private sector in this state since the day they were sworn into office. A monthly blog post isn't going to reverse the troubling downward trend of manufacturing in our state," Hogan said. "In fact, it is an insult to the thousands of middle-class workers and their families who have struggled to find employment and make ends meet because of the O'Malley-Brown misguided policies."
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics' State and Area Employment data, Maryland businesses employed 133,200 workers in January 2007. In August 2013, preliminary results indicate manufacturing employment has dropped to just 106,800 jobs - a total drop over 20% in the sector since 2007.
Hogan went in to say, "no amount of lip service can undo this Governor's deplorable record on jobs. 120,000 more Marylanders remain unemployed since O'Malley took office, and 26,000 of those are in our manufacturing sector. It's time we had a governor who will put action behind their words. It’s time to Change Maryland."
Change Maryland founder Larry Hogan is also the founder, President and CEO of the Hogan Companies, leaders in economic development who have brought hundreds of companies and thousands of jobs to Maryland, and have done over $2 billion in business in the state.
Hogan concluded, "This manufacturing proclamation is just the latest stunt by this governor to hide his horrible jobs record. Last month, the governor made a ridiculous claim about recovering 100% of the jobs lost in the recession when in fact 120,000 more Marylanders are out of work today than when he first took office."
Bureau of Labor Statistics research shows Maryland's unemployment rate was 3.6% in April 2007, and nearly doubled to 7% in July 2013.
Change Maryland is the largest and fastest growing citizen organization in the state. The group organized a Business Summit on Improving Maryland's Economic Competitiveness which focused on solutions to the state's serious economic issues, which was attended by federal, state, and local government officials, economists, think tanks, and over 400 Maryland business leaders.

ATF Tries To Block Whistleblowing Agent’s ‘Fast and Furious’ Book

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is blocking the main whistleblower in the Fast and Furious case from publishing a book for pay, claiming his retelling of the Mexico “gun-walking” scandal will hurt morale inside the embattled law enforcement agency, according to documents obtained by The Washington Times.

ATF’s dispute with Special Agent John Dodson is setting up a First Amendment showdown that is poised to bring together liberal groups like the American Civil Liberties Union and conservatives in Congress who have championed Mr. Dodson’s protection as a whistleblower.

The ACLU is slated to become involved in the case Monday, informing ATF it is representing Mr. Dodson and filing a formal protest to the decision to reject his request to publish the already written book, sources told The Times, speaking only on the condition of anonymity.

Women Protesting Obama Say They Were Attacked On Gwinnett Overpass

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Police near Atlanta are investigating an attack on a group of women as they protested on an interstate overpass and carried signs calling for President Barack Obama's impeachment.

The women told police they were demonstrating on the Steve Reynolds Boulevard overpass in Gwinnett County on Saturday, when a man pulled up beside them. They said he pointed a gun at one of them and splashed another with an unknown liquid.

Marge Moore tells WSB Radio that she felt the liquid burning on her foot and thinks it was a household chemical. She says a couple in a car had driven by moments before the incident and threatened to kill them.

No arrests have been made.

Arifa Bibi Stoned To Death In Pakistan For Possessing A Cell Phone

A young mother of two has been put to death in Pakistan for possessing a cell phone.

Arifa Bibi was sentenced to death by stoning by a Pakistani tribal court, and was executed on July 11 at the hands of her family. Her uncle, cousins and other family members threw stones at the woman until she died, all because she had a mobile phone. She was buried in the desert far away from her home village, andaccording to reports, her family was not permitted to be involved in her funeral.

Stoning has been a common sentence in countries like Pakistan for a long time and is used against women and other vulnerable groups. Since the stoning of Arifa Bibi this summer, women’s rights groups have launched an even stronger campaign to put a ban on stoning.

Naureen Shameem, representative for women’s rights group Women Living Under Muslim Laws, says that stoning is used against women in particular as a way to control them.

American Hero

This is a little long as I start six years ago.

At the airport in George town, DE some guys got together and decided to try a combination car show and air show. I was chosen to represent my car club (Wheels That Heal). The name was and is Wings and Wheels. Each year since it has gotten larger and larger. Hundreds of cars and dozens of planes.

One of the men behind the show owns a restored B-25 that he flies to airshows around the east coast representing DAV. Panchito on google.

Last night we had dinner with 40s and 50s show and music to kick off this years W&W show today. The B-25 was nosed into the hanger where this took place.

The guest of honor was Dick Cole.
Never heard of him?? He was co-pilot on the first B-25 launched from the USS Hornet against Japan.
The pilot?? Jimmy Doolittle.
“30 Seconds over Tokyo” ring a bell??
Of the 80 original volunteers only a few remain. Dick is one!! Almost 98 years of age.
When asked what was the greatest memory from the mission he replied “when the chute opened”.

I am honored to have met, talked with, shaken the hand of, and had a picture taken with a True American Hero.
I felt so small standing next to him!!

BTW!! Around the hanger were photos, newspaper articles, etc. about the Doolittle Raid and the B-25.
What an emotional night!!
Yes, it is 0330 and still thinking about the night!!

Most Humbly,
Dave

Marylanders Cut Back On Driving

Marylanders are driving less these days, according to a report by the Maryland PIRG Foundation, a public interest research group.

The amount of miles driven per person in the state fell more than 4 percent between 2005 and 2011.

Forty-five other states also saw a reduction in driving miles, according to the report. Nationally, this is the eighth consecutive year that Americans have driven less.
