‘It Is Shocking That I Have To Explain This’: DHS Secretary Dispels Myths About Migrant Caravan
The migrant caravan the left-leaning media has been gushing over finally reached the U.S.-Mexico border on Sunday, and things got violent.
Migrants threw rocks and projectiles at border patrol, and one San Diego agent said the group, which is made up of mostly men, used women and children as human shields. Naturally, leftist media outlets tried to downplay the violence and turn it against President Donald Trump, lambasting the use of tear gas against the caravan, even though the Obama administration did the same thing.

Obama Used Tear Gas At Least 80 Times at Border
Under the Obama Administration, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) law enforcement officials, including Border Patrol agents, utilized tear gas against migrants at or near the border at least 80 times between FY2012 and early FY2017.
CBP officials reported the use of tear gas and pepper spray to push back “assaultive” caravan migrants attempting to enter the U.S. illegally on Sunday. The agency began using these particular sprays during the Obama administration in 2010.
“CBP takes Sunday’s employment of use-of-force very seriously. CBP reviews and evaluates all uses of force incidents to ensure compliance with policy,” a CBP spokesman told Breitbart News in response to an inquiry. “Over 1,000 individuals who were part of the so-called caravan attempted to cross illegally into the U.S. by breaching sections of the fence and using vehicle lanes in and near the San Ysidro Port of Entry. This group ignored law enforcement agencies in Mexico and assaulted U.S. Federal Officers and Agents assigned to respond to the situation in San Diego.”
“As a response to the assaults and to defuse this dangerous situation, trained CBP personnel employed less-lethal devices to stop the actions of assaultive individuals attempting to break into the U.S.,” the spokesman continued.
Despite media reports to the contrary, CBP officers and agents operating under the Trump Administration responded the same way they did during the Obama Administration when, in 2013, migrants rushed the same stretch of border, Breitbart News’ Neil Munro reported.
Democrat congressional leaders and Hollywood activists teamed up to condemn the Trump Administration’s use of force in defending the border but ignored President Obama’s prior, identical response.

York: Why not build a border barrier? It's the law
The news is filled with images of migrants massing at the U.S-Mexico border near the San Ysidro crossing in California. Why haven't they been able to enter the United States? Because a physical barrier prevents them from doing so.
It is just another example of a barrier — a fence, a wall, whatever — providing real border security.
Of course, building a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border was President Trump's premier campaign promise. So far, in nearly two years in office, he has made almost no progress toward making it happen. Trump has had opportunities to win wall funding in exchange for amnesty for recipients of President Barack Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, policy. But the White House loaded its wall proposal with add-on demands, and it never happened.
Building a wall would cost an estimated $25 billion. Trump often says that he has already gotten $1.6 billion to start work. But Congress has specifically dictated that most of that money not be used for the president's wall. Some of it can be used to build new fencing — not the wall designs that the administration has tested — while other money is restricted to the replacement of existing fencing.
There was talk that Trump might win $5 billion for wall funding during the lame-duck session as House Republican lawmakers finish their last few weeks in power. The chances of that happening are not good.
So what now?

Jordan: 'We've Got FIVE WEEKS' to Fund Border Wall
Republicans are running out of time to fund border security before Democrats take over the House, according to Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio.
"We've got five weeks before Nancy Pelosi takes over as Speaker of the House," Jordan told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" on Tuesday morning. "We had better get focused on the things that really matter."
Jordan pointed to the weekend's chaos at the U.S. southern border with Mexico, where members of the migrant caravan have charged and thrown rocks at immigration personnel and have had to be tear gassed.
"We've seen what's happened in the last couple days," Jordan said, calling one of the most important initiatives for the lame-duck House to achieve in its waning weeks is "building the border security wall and securing the southern border." "And that was the biggest promise that Republicans made to voters in 2016.
"So, we had better fight for that..."

Amazon to Mine Health Data Records
Amazon.com Inc. AMZN 0.01% is starting to sell software that mines patient medical records for information doctors and hospitals could use to improve treatment and cut costs. The move is the latest by a big technology company into health care, an industry where it sees opportunities for growth.
The market for storing and analyzing health information is worth more than $7 billion a year, according to research firm Grand View Research, a business in which International Business Machines Corp.’s Watson Health and UnitedHealth Group Inc.’s Optum already compete.
The Wall Street Journal previously reported that Apple Inc. is talking with the Department of Veterans Affairs about software to allow veterans to transfer their health records to iPhones, and that Alphabet Inc.’s Google had hired a prominent hospital-system chief to oversee the company’s various health-care efforts.
The new Amazon software can read digitized patient records and other clinical notes, analyze them and pluck out key data points, Amazon said. The company announced the software, first reported by the Journal, on Tuesday.

Newt: The border struggle is real. And it is a war
The struggle along America’s southern border is a war.
It is largely a psychological war. Foreigners are taunting the American government and trying to get the news media to focus on American law enforcement rather than the people trying to break into our country.
This struggle is historic. It is the tip of a wave of lawbreaking foreigners who would love to move into the United States and dictate to law-abiding Americans the terms under which the lawbreakers will be accepted, supported and subsidized.
Ultimately, this war is a function of willpower and cleverness.
The foreign invaders have a huge advantage. Most of the American news media and the American left are on their side.
Most of the news media do not want to explore the aggressiveness – and in some cases criminality – of those seeking to come into the United States illegally. Nor do most news organizations want to report on the total number of people who will illegally enter the United States over the next few years if the American border control system collapses.

DeVos: Teachers Unions Have a ‘Stranglehold’ on Many Politicians
Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos on Tuesday said that teachers unions have a "stranglehold" on too many politicians while criticizing the lack of progress on school choice for American students.
DeVos, a longtime champion of school choice in the form of charter schools and private school vouchers, told Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo that students need "many more kinds of educational experiences" and criticized the "forces protecting the status quo," the Hill reported.
"We need to combat those, break them, and, again, empower and allow parents to make decisions on behalf of their individual children, because they know their children best," she said.
"Is it the teachers union? What outside forces are stopping us from making the changes required?" Bartiromo asked.
"The teachers union has a stranglehold on many of the politicians in this country, both at the federal level and at the state level, and they are very resistant to the kind of changes that need to happen," DeVos said. "They are very protective of what they know, and they're protective, really protective of adult jobs and not really focused on what's right for individual students."

DUI crash kills 3, including driver recently released after 4th DUI, authorities say
A motorist who allegedly cause a five-vehicle Thanksgiving Day crash that killed her and two other people had recently been freed from the latest in a series of alcohol-related arrests and had a history of driving while intoxicated, authorities said.
Shelley Rose, 48, was driving a Dodge Caravan the wrong way on the southbound lanes of Interstate 59 near Lumberton, Miss., before colliding with two vehicles, witnesses said. The wreck killed Rose, Jada Bright, 23, of Slidell, La., and 45-year-old Alabama resident Evens Vincent, theClarion Ledger of Jackson, Miss., reported.
A Honda CRV also crashed into a sedan and rolled over into the wood line. The driver and two passengers inside suffered minor injuries, the report said.
Just three days earlier, Rose was arrested for her fourth alleged DUI offense after the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department received calls from witnesses about an erratic driver in a Dodge Caravan, Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun said.
Rose, 48, was released on $10,000 bond eight hours later.

New video shows Alabama mall shooter's body after he was shot dead by cops for gunning down children
The 21-year-old black man killed by police during the Alabama mall shooting was not the gunman, say police who have warned that the shooter is still on the loose.
Emantic Fitzgerald Bradford Jr., the son of a Birmingham cop and a combat engineer in the US Army, was shot dead by officers responding to reports of an active shooter at the Riverchase Galleria on Thanksgiving Day.
An 18-year-old boy was shot twice after getting into a fight with the gunman, and a nearby 12-year-old girl was also injured when struck by a stray bullet.
On Friday evening, Hoover Police Department revealed new evidence showing that Bradford may have been involved in an altercation with the 18-year-old, and at least one other individual, 'he likely did not fire the rounds' that injured the victims.
Investigators now believe that several people were involved in the original fight, which broke out at 9.30pm on Thursday, and it's unclear whether Bradford was attempting to break up the altercation, or if he was involved from the beginning.

Republican Cindy Hyde-Smith Wins Miss. Senate Runoff After Racially Charged Campaign
Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith is the projected winner of the Senate runoff in Mississippi, according to the Associated Press, overcoming a series of missteps that brought the state's dark history of racism and violence to the forefront.
Hyde-Smith, who was appointed to the Senate earlier this year after GOP Sen. Thad Cochran stepped down due to health reasons, defeated former congressman and Agriculture Secretary Mike Espy. Neither candidate had won the requisite 50 percent in the first round of the special election on Election Day. She's the first woman elected to the Senate from Mississippi.

Students fear dorm mold problem led to adenovirus death
Students at the University of Maryland fear mold problems in their dorms may be linked to the death of a freshman who succumbed to the same rare virus that killed 11 New Jersey kids.
Olivia Paregol, 18, was in her first semester at the College Park school when, early in the semester, she developed a cough, which later worsened to pneumonia. She died Sunday at Johns Hopkins Hospital from adenovirus, which causes respiratory problems.
Jessica Thompson told CBS News that she and her roommate discovered mold on their shoes and clothes in their dorm back in August — and that the fungus caused them to fall ill.
“You can’t sleep at night because the pillow is right next to mold and you’re up all night coughing,” Thompson told the outlet. “We got to go home on the weekends and we would be totally fine at home, and we would come back and would be sniffling and coughing and then have headaches.”

James Comey reminded of his exposed memos as he resists private testimony for fear of leaks
Former FBI Director James Comey is taking some heat after announcing on Thanksgiving that he would "resist" a subpoena to appear for a closed-door deposition with a joint congressional task force for fear of Republicans selectively leaking his testimony to the public.
His critics expressed astonishment at what they said was the hypocrisy of a top law enforcement official who leaked memos he had written of his private conversations with President Trump to the media now complaining about targeted leaks.
"It’s total hypocrisy on the former director’s part. But he doesn’t sense it. Or, maybe he does, and simply doesn’t care to acknowledge b/c it aids his current cause ...," said ex-FBI supervisory special agent James Gagliano, who has been critical of Comey in the past.

OPINION: Jared — The Birdbrain Of Alcatraz
In the systematic dismantling of common sense in America, Jared Kushner’s “sentencing reform” bill is the coup de grace — a Mack Truck hurtling down the highway about to take out thousands of Americans. The Idiot Army is already in place to fight and win this battle.
Jared and the hip-hop artists currently advising him have decided that too many people are in prison. If you think you’ve heard this before, you have: Genius insights of this sort have preceded nearly every major crime wave this country has experienced, from Philadelphia to California to a bloody period known as “the Warren Court.”
As anyone with an amoeba’s understanding of recent history knows, beginning in the early ’60s, assorted heads-up-their-asses liberals jettisoned logic, common sense and a basic understanding of human nature by releasing criminals from the prisons where they belonged.
Instead of punishing criminals, we would give them social services, education and job training — with the implied understanding that they wouldn’t move next door to any of the reformers. The experts assured a disbelieving public that these policies would reduce crime.

Social Security Benefits Have Lost One-Third of Their Purchasing Power Since 2000
Those who have started taking Social Security since 2000 have lost a third of their purchasing power, pushing many into poverty
The latest survey from the Senior Citizens League (SCL) revealed that Social Security, the welfare program originally designed to help workers in their old age, is instead slowly impoverishing them:
Over the past 18 years, Social Security benefits have lost 34 percent of their buying power, according to the findings of this study.
Many of the goods and services purchased by typical retirees increased several times faster than annual Social Security cost of living adjustments (COLAs) from January 2000 through January 2018.
As The New American recently pointed out, for three out of every five of the more than 60 million Americans receiving Social Security, that monthly check represents half or more of their total monthly income. Because many have not planned for the future, or been able to, by the time workers start receiving their benefits, four out of 10 will be living at or near the poverty level.
There have been previous attempts to “adjust” the purchasing power of those checks including using cost-of-living-adjustments or COLAs. For 2019 those 62 million Social Security recipients will see their checks increase by 2.8 percent.

Feds investigating 2.7 million GM pickups and SUVs for faulty brake issue
The U.S. government is investigating more than 100 complaints of poor brake performance on 2.7 million General Motors big pickups and SUVs.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says a brake vacuum pump can deteriorate, causing increased braking effort and longer stopping distances.
The agency has 111 consumer complaints including nine crashes and two injuries.
The investigation covers 2014 through 2016 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups. Also involved are Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe, the GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade SUVs.
The agency will determine how often the problem happens and whether a recall is necessary.
GM is monitoring complaints and warranty claims about the brakes and is working with NHTSA to evaluate them, spokesman Tom Wilkinson said Friday.
Any owner who has a problem with brake performance should have them examined by a GM dealer or independent repair shop, Wilkinson said.
They should keep receipts because they could be reimbursed for repairs if there is a recall, he added.
