The Ocean City Police Department wants to expand its City Watch surveillance program, and add to its inventory of 250 cameras deployed throughout the resort.
“The City Watch program is a significant force multiplier for the agency,” Lt. Glen McIntyre said. “Technologically speaking, personnel who are monitoring our cameras are actively patrolling dozens of public places concurrently.”
The expansion effort was brought up last Tuesday, Oct. 29, at the Strategic Update Planning meeting held in the Ocean City convention center on 40th Street.
At the time, Police Chief Ross Buzzuro said he wanted to expand the program to target hot spot crime areas.
“We are currently using crime analytics to determine the best locations for future camera deployments,” McIntyre said. “Once identified, we will be working with other city departments and contractors to develop a strategic plan for installation.”

In a newly admitted “mistake” the defense has decried as “appalling,” the attorneys prosecuting former White House National Security Adviser Michael Flynn have been forced to admit this week that they “misidentified” the sources of the FBI notes upon which the case against Flynn has been based.
The notes on the conversation with Flynn that the prosecutors believed were written by anti-Trump agent Peter Strzok, the prosecutors admitted in a letter Tuesday, were in fact written by his partner, Joe Pientka. The admission further calls into question Strzok’s credibility, as he had insisted that Pientka was “primarily responsible” for taking the notes and writing the key document in the case, the FD-302 form. The admission also follows the defense’s accusation that the FBI deliberately altered the original 302 form to suggest Flynn had lied about his contact with a Russian ambassador

A Bogus Study on Concealed-Carry Killings
The anti-gun Violence Policy Center (VPC) released a study recently with an eye-popping claim: Concealed-carry-permit holders have killed 1,335 people since 2007. “Too many concealed-carry permit holders are a direct threat to public safety,” warns the VPC. Purporting to review “non-self-defense incidents” involving firearms, the VPC says its research proves that “allowing random people to carry guns endangers public safety.” We’re shocked — shocked — to report that this is fake news.
First of all, there are roughly 18 million permit holders now — three times as many as when the VPC started tracking this data in 2007. A crime wave among them would be big news, but instead concealed-carry-permit holders are, as a group, more law-abiding than police officers. They are model citizens, not “random people” apt to commit crime.
That’s true for a couple of reasons. Permit holders in many states undergo training before receiving their permits, and every state that issues permits requires a bear minimum of a background check first. People who submit to such requirements are almost by definition more law-abiding than those who don’t — at least compared to other “random people” carrying guns without permits.

Police uncover tow scheme
Ocean City police uncovered a suspected theft and towing scheme by 1st Street Towing in Ocean City, going back as far as March 16. Charges filed last month allege that 1st Street Towing profited by thousands of dollars by illegally towing vehicles from a multi-unit property on Atlantic Avenue and the parking lot of Bank of America in mid-town Ocean City.
According to court documents, police became aware of the situation when Cynthia Mooney, president of Shore Management, reported to police on Aug. 9 that her car had been towed by the wrong company.
Shore Management organizes tow companies for its own properties, one of which was the multi-unit property on Atlantic Avenue. That property has labeled parking spaces by unit number for the owners.

Wicomico Council Accepts $20K Census Grant
SALISBURY – Officials in Wicomico County voted this week to accept grant funding to improve community involvement in the 2020 Census.
On Tuesday, the Wicomico County Council approved a request to accept $20,000 from the Maryland Department of Planning for activities conducted by the Wicomico County Count Committee.
Planning, Zoning and Community Development Director Lori Carter told the council the funds would be used to increase participation in the 2020 Census.
“I’m here asking the council to favor us in being able to accept the award of $20,000 to help us with our Census 2020 operations for this year,” she said.
Carter explained most of the funding would be used to promote the 2020 Census in the media.

The Los Angeles Times recently reported that conservatives are moving out of California at an unprecedented rate. The Times cited a UC Berkeley study revealing that “just over half of California’s registered voters have considered leaving the state” and that “Republicans and conservative voters were nearly three times as likely as their Democratic or liberal counterparts to seriously have considered moving.” The reasons conservatives gave for wanting to leave were high taxes, cost of living, and an antagonizing, one-sided political culture.
From 2007 to 2016, California lost more than one million residents, or 2.5% of its population. In 2017 alone, 63,175 Californians moved to Texas, the top destination for residents moving out of the Golden State.

George Kent, a career official at the State Department, told House investigators conducting the impeachment inquiry against President Trump that he raised concerns about Hunter Biden's lucrative service on the board of a Ukrainian natural gas company -- and confirmed that he had no "direct knowledge" that U.S. aid to Ukraine was ever connected to the opening of a new investigation.
According to a transcript of his Oct. 15 closed-door deposition released Thursday, Kent said that in January or February 2015, he "became aware that Hunter Biden was on the board" of Ukrainian company Burisma Holdings while his father Joe Biden was overseeing Ukraine policy as vice president.
"I did not know that at the time," Kent testified. "And when I was on a call with somebody on the vice president's staff and I cannot recall who it was, just briefing on what was happening into Ukraine, I raised my concerns that I had heard that Hunter Biden was on the board of a company owned by somebody that the U.S. Government had spent money trying to get tens of millions of dollars back, and that could create the perception of a conflict of interest."
After discussing those concerns with Biden's staff, Kent testified, "The message that I recall hearing back was that the Vice President's son Beau was dying of cancer and that there was no further bandwidth to deal with family-related issues at that time."

The measure to make the city an official sanctuary city was rejected by 71% of voters, according to unofficial election results released by the city late Tuesday.
Democrats designated Tucson an “immigrant welcoming city” in 2012, and the police department limited when officers could ask people about their immigration status. The move came after Arizona passed a law that required local police to check the immigration status of people they believed to be in the United States illegally.
“The city of Tucson, in all respects except being labeled as such, operates as a sanctuary city,” Mayor Jonathan Rothschild, a Democrat, told the Associated Press.

ABC News Execs Have Identified Former Employee Who Leaked Hot-Mic Footage
ABC News executives believe they know the identity of the former employee who accessed footage of anchor Amy Robach expressing frustration that her story about convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein had been shelved.
Two sources with knowledge of the situation tell me that ABC News executives know who the former employee is but don’t know if that person leaked the footage to Project Veritas, the right-wing activist group, or if they shared it with others who leaked the footage.
In a statement, a spokesperson for ABC News told me, “We take violations of company policy very seriously, and we’re pursuing all avenues to determine the source of the leak.”

U.S. diplomat Bill Taylor, during his deposition last month, identified the New York Times as the sole source of his claim that President Donald Trump wanted Ukraine to help him get dirt on Joe Biden, transcripts released Wednesday show.
Taylor suggested that Trump wanted Ukraine to launch investigations into corruption allegations against the former vice president and his son Hunter and potential U.S. election interference only to get information on his political rival Joe Biden.
The U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, Taylor, revealed that the Times was the only source for his reasoning.
Besides a New York Times article, “I have no other information from what the [U.S.] president was thinking,” he declared under questioning by Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY) during his October 22 deposition, given behind closed doors.
The transcripts of his testimony described the Zeldin-Taylor exchange as follows:

For police officers around the country, the genetic profiles that 20 million people have uploaded to consumer DNA sites represent a tantalizing resource that could be used to solve cases both new and cold. But for years, the vast majority of the data have been off limits to investigators. The two largest sites, Ancestry.com and 23andMe, have long pledged to keep their users’ genetic information private, and a smaller one, GEDmatch, severely restricted police access to its records this year.
Last week, however, a Florida detective announced at a police convention that he had obtained a warrant to penetrate GEDmatch and search its full database of nearly one million users. Legal experts said that this appeared to be the first time a judge had approved such a warrant, and that the development could have profound implications for genetic privacy.
“That’s a huge game-changer,” said Erin Murphy, a law professor at New York University. “The company made a decision to keep law enforcement out, and that’s been overridden by a court. It’s a signal that no genetic information can be safe.”

Whistleblower attorney tweeted of Trump 'coup,' rebellion
The attorney representing the Ukraine whistleblower tweeted about starting a “coup” against President Trump that would end with his impeachment almost as soon as he took the oath of office.

The Globe Property Sold; Restaurant To Close At Month’s End
BERLIN – After 13 years in Berlin, The Globe will close its doors at the end of the month.
The Globe owner Jennifer Dawicki told employees Tuesday that the business would be closing its doors Nov. 30. Dawicki’s announcement came just as Burley Oak Brewery Company owner Bryan Brushmiller purchased the property from C&E Patton Family LLC.
“I have served the community, my staff, the public for 13 years,” Dawicki said. “It’s been mostly joyous and somewhat challenging but it’s time for me to transition.”
Though rumors regarding the future of the building and the business have been circulating through town in recent weeks, Brushmiller’s purchase of the property wasn’t official until Tuesday. He said he was approached earlier this fall by the property owner.

Three Cheers for Refugee Reduction
Over the weekend, President Donald Trump approved a new annual refugee cap of 18,000, the lowest since the U.S. program began in 1980. The reduction follows news that America took a pause last month and refused to admit any new refugees. On economic, public safety and national security grounds, this is a very good thing for the 325 million people already in our country. But you wouldn’t know it from the grim headlines and hysterical condemnations by globalist zealots and media sympathizers.

President Trump said Wednesday he will appoint more than 180 judges by the end of the year, celebrating the historic milestone at a White House event attended by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and fellow Republicans recognized for remaking the federal bench.
He’s currently confirmed more than 157 judicial nominees and has dozens currently awaiting confirmation for district and circuit court vacancies, saying his nominees “will uphold our Constitution as written.”
Mr. Trump said the number of judicial confirmations is “a big moment” in the nation’s history, mostly crediting Mr. McConnell for processes federal judges at an unprecedented speed to fill out the federal judiciary.
“Generations from now, Americans will know Mitch McConnell helped save the Constitutional rule of law in America,” Mr. Trump said.

Virginia Election Plagued with Ballot Irregularities, Some Voters Turned Away
Election Day on Tuesday in the Commonwealth of Virginia was filled with ballot problems and some voters were told they could not vote, according to media reports in the state.
Local radio station WTOP reported on some of the problems:
In Prince William County, several hundreds ballots were misprinted and contained only one side, election officials confirmed to WTOP. Earlier in the day, another problem emerged in Stafford County, where for the second straight Virginia House of Delegates election, some voters there cast ballots in the wrong races Tuesday, state elections officials said.
Prince William County confirmed ballot issues at three voting locations Tuesday morning. After getting calls from two listeners who said they had trouble voting in the morning, WTOP got in touch with registrar Michelle White, who confirmed the problem.
WTOP talked to one man, the caretaker for a disabled Virginia voter, who said that she and others were turned away.

SAVE THE DATE: It’s Greenery Workshop Time Once More!
On Saturday Dec. 7 the folks at Pemberton Hall Foundation and Westside Historical Society will again offer a workshop in making your own natural greenery Christmas decorations. This has become a popular annual event at Pemberton Historical Park, reminiscent of the busy weeks on the Eastern Shore in the 1800s and early 1900s when folks here made thousands of wreaths to sell from Philadelphia to Norfolk! Boxcar loads of the pungent decorative greenery were delivered daily to mid-Atlantic cities.
Now, here is your chance to learn to make beautiful wreaths, swags and other decorative pieces for the Holidays! All the greens and materials needed will be provided by these two sponsoring heritage organizations, plus hands-on instruction. At the same time some interesting bits of the history of the commercial importance of the harvesting and creation of natural greenery here on the Eastern Shore. For many years in the 1800s and early 1900s local farmers made a tidy profit to carry their families over the winter by cutting holly, cedar, and other greens, fashioning them into hundreds of beautiful wreaths, and shipping them to nearby regions. This workshop will teach the same methods, using natural materials to make the finished product. No prior experience is necessary!
Classes will be held in the Education Building at Pemberton Historical Park (on Pemberton Drive) and will begin at 10 am and run until about 2pm. Space is limited to the number of work tables available at any given time, so there could be a short wait. No decorations such as ribbons or ornaments will be provided/included in the fee, but some ribbons may be available to purchase. Or, if the crafter wishes to include these they can be brought along and the instructors will assist in attaching them to the finished product. Some folks in recent classes also attached real fruits (lemons, apples) and instructors can help with this as well – just bring your own items.
The cost for making one item is $15, but crafters may choose to make more than one item, with the cost being $15 each. Free refreshments will be provided , and both heritage organizations will have a number of gift items for sale.
