AT&T maintains an extensive record detailing every location their customers have ever used their phones, according to a New York Times article published on Sunday.
The revelations were revealed in a NYT story highlighting “Hemisphere,” a partnership between AT&T and law enforcement officials working in a counternarcotics program which gave authorities access to phone data.
According to the article, law enforcement officials have access to a trove of AT&T data that “includes information on the locations of callers” of “every call that passes through an AT&T switch — not just those made by AT&T customers.”

Assateague Horse Struck, Killed By Vehicle On Labor Day
Around 8 p.m. on Monday, a wild pony was struck by a vehicle leaving the parks on the causeway approaching the bridge. The horse, identified as T3KR, an alpha-numeric designation used to name the 100-plus wild inhabitants of the island, was a 20-year-old bay mare. Maryland: Minimum Wage For Employees Could Increase To $12 An Hour
Montgomery County is one of the nation’s wealthiest counties, and it’s now looking to promote its lowest paid citizens by increasing minimum wage to $12 an hour.
Councilmember Marc Elrich says that $12 an hour may sound drastic – but it is desperately needed.
"The better the wages are at the bottom, the less money the government is spending on social programs, [and] the less bureaucracy you need to administer social programs," he said. "It's like what's not to like about this from any political perspective."

RESIDENT HOLDS BURGLARY SUSPECT UNTIL POLICE ARRIVE

The victim, who is not being identified, stated that Delp entered through the unlocked front door of the unit then walked into the victims bedroom where he assaulted the victim. The victim then struck Delp, grabbed a shotgun which was hidden nearby and asked a roommate to call the police. The victim was able to hold Delp until police arrived.
Delp has been charged by Ocean City police with fourth degree burglary, third degree burglary and second degree assault. He was seen by a Maryland District Court Commissioner and released on $10,000 bond.

Narrative: Investigators from the Wicomico Bureau of Investigation continue to investigate a Triple-Shooting that occurred in the 100 block of Onley Road in Salisbury. Officers from the Salisbury Police Department, the Wicomico County S...heriff’s Office and the Maryland State Police responded to a 911 call of shots fired at this location. Upon arrival, law enforcement officers found three occupants of the residence suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was a former boyfriend of the female victim and had traveled from Queen Anne’s County to Salisbury yesterday evening.
Once at the residence on Onley road, an argument ensued between the suspect and victim #2. Victim#1 attempted to intervene at which time the suspect produced a semi-automatic handgun and opened fire on the victims. Victim#1 was transported by ambulance and was pronounced deceased upon arrival at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Victim# 2 was transported to the PRMC in Salisbury where she was stabilized and subsequently flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Unit for treatment of multiple gunshot wounds. Her condition remains critical, but stable. The suspect was pronounced DEAD at the scene.

Md. Attorney General Proposes Tablet Computers For Inmates
BALTIMORE — Maryland Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler pushed a novel solution Monday for closing what he called the "revolving door" of ex-offenders returning to prisons.
Give inmates tablet computers.
As Gansler envisions it, the proposal would help offenders build both education credentials and social support before they leave prison.
The gubernatorial hopeful says the wireless devices would replace brick-and-mortar libraries and classrooms in the state's prison system, providing each inmate with an Android tablet that could connect with e-books, the state's library system, law resources and online learning programs.
They would also allow limited — and monitored — email access, so inmates could connect with family members.
"It has to work," Gansler said. "It's common sense that it will work."

A coalition of two dozen civil-liberties groups called Thursday for broad congressional hearings on the Drug Enforcement Administration, citing recent revelations by Reuters about the DEA's use of National Security Agency data to build non-terrorism cases against Americans.
Last month, Reuters reported that the DEA funnels tips from overseas NSA intercepts, informants, court-ordered wiretaps and a massive telephone database to police and federal agents nationwide, including tax investigators at the Internal Revenue Service.

New Snow Hill High Scores Final Approval
SNOW HILL — It’s official — Snow Hill is getting a new high school.
The Worcester County Commissioners gave the project final approval this week and groundbreaking is expected to be this January with construction potentially completed by fall of 2016.
It has been nearly a decade since the ball first started to roll on a renovated Snow Hill High School (SHHS).
“As you are well aware, planning for the renovation of Snow Hill High began with a feasibility study in 2004,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jerry Wilson told the commissioners Tuesday. “Nine years later, we’ve completed the design, secured full state construction funding and executed a very successful bid process.”

Brutality Of Syrian Rebels Posing Dilemma In West
The Syrian rebels posed casually, standing over their prisoners with firearms pointed down at the shirtless and terrified men.
The prisoners, seven in all, were captured Syrian soldiers. Five were trussed, their backs marked with red welts. They kept their faces pressed to the dirt as the rebels’ commander recited a bitter revolutionary verse.
“For fifty years, they are companions to corruption,” he said. “We swear to the Lord of the Throne, that this is our oath: We will take revenge.”
The moment the poem ended, the commander, known as “the Uncle,” fired a bullet into the back of the first prisoner’s head. His gunmen followed suit, promptly killing all the men at their feet.

Pelosi Not Sure House Democrats Will Back Syria Resolution
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said she’s not sure whether a majority of House Democrats will support the use of force in Syria.
“I don’t know,” Pelosi said in an interview with Time magazine. “I think it would be important to get a majority in the Congress. But I don’t know if it’s important how you would break it down. These issues are not really partisan.”
Despite Pelosi’s comments, it has become clear that a strong majority of House Republicans are likely to oppose the resolution, meaning it would need strong support among Democrats to pass in the GOP-controlled House.

Prosecutors Face ‘Challenges’ Without Arresting Officers
OCEAN CITY — More than two months after the tragic June 30 plane crash claimed the lives of two off-duty Ocean City Police officers, many of the cases in which the victims were the arresting officers are now starting to hit the court system, creating some challenges for prosecutors, but a greater challenge for the State’s Attorney’s Office is the large number of arrests made throughout the summer by seasonal officers that will come to trial in the coming weeks and months.

The Obama administration is worried about deeply dug-in resistance to its health-care agenda, and those worries have been compounded by its depleted political capital — most voters still disapprove of the health-care law, and the president’s approval–disapproval spread has collapsed by 18.6 points since his reelection — and so it has done what it does when the going gets tough: make a speech. New Fertilizer Regulations Will Be Phased In
According to state officials, the department had previously asked that the regulations aimed at cutting pollution in the Chesapeake Bay receive emergency status so that they would be implemented for the fall planting season.
However, after farmers raised concerns, the Maryland Department of Agriculture announced Thursday that the revised regulations, called the phosphorus management tool, would be phased in through October 2014.

What Do We Stand For?
At the very edge of oblivion, some men reflect, and some men snivel and cry. I have spent many years now studying the societal strengths and failings of modern American culture, and I have to say, that most citizens within our once grand Republic will do far less reflecting and much more crying when the bell tolls. This is not to say that I believe the fight is lost. Far from it. In fact, I would consider myself an optimist amongst many of my peers in the Liberty Movement as to our chances of defending Constitutional freedom today. There is a very strong core within our country that still embraces the ideals of individualism and independence. The problem is, those who are awake face each day surrounded by lunatics and and the giggling blind. It's difficult to find solace within the asylum of the “mainstream”, and so, we begin to assume we are alone.
Even worse, we sometimes have to deal with misguided and biased persons that join the Liberty Movement, not to stand upon any solid fundamental principles, but who seek to impress their own twisted world views upon us as if they “know better”. You would think that the concept of freedom would be simple to understand and grasp, but for some, it is like plunging into a trigonometric wonderland of confusion.
As the U.S., led by the Obama Administration, moves towards yet another possible war in the Middle East, using covert terrorists as proxies and enacting violent policy based on dubious or non-existent evidence and far flung accusations, I realize that with all the blathering voices out there telling us what to think, what to do, what to fear, who to admire, who to worship, how to live, and what to aspire, perhaps it is time for each of us to solemnly question what we stand for, and what America is supposed to stand for?
Really, think about it. What are we here for? What purpose do we serve in the grand scheme of things? What are our defining principles?

City Bemoans New Pension Accounting Rules Slated For 2014
Although the city’s position remains fairly steady or even slightly improved regarding its pension system, city leaders last week bemoaned upcoming accounting standards changes that will force them to incorporate their projected pension liabilities into the city’s total debt burden.
Under the Government Accounting Standards Board’s new protocols for 2014, municipalities must show a ‘net position’ of their pension plans on any GASB-supervised balance sheets, including the required Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.
This position could be an asset, if the municipality’s pension investments exceed the current projected value of its future costs and payouts. If not, as is the case in Ocean City and most municipalities around the county, the position will be a liability.

These governments, led by the US, have explicitly sought the violent overthrow of Assad. Without their involvement, Assad’s regime would most likely have remained repressive; with their involvement, Syria has become a site of mass death and destruction. More than 100,000 people have died, and many of the world’s cultural and archaeological treasures have been demolished.
Syria’s civil war has occurred in two phases.
The first phase, roughly from January 2011 until March 2012, was largely an internal affair. When the Arab Spring erupted in Tunisia and Egypt in January 2011, protests erupted in Syria as well. In addition to the usual grievances under a brutal regime, Syrians were reeling from a massive drought and soaring food prices.
The protests became a military rebellion when parts of the Syrian army broke with the regime and established the Free Syrian Army. Neighboring Turkey was probably the first outside country to support the rebellion on the ground, giving sanctuary to rebel forces along its border with Syria. Although the violence was escalating, the death toll was still in the thousands, not tens of thousands.

Red Knights To Present 9/11 Parade Of Brothers Memorial Ride
“We’re all familiar with 9/11 and the big thing in this country is ‘Never forget.’ We just thought we would try to memorialize it,” said local Red Knights Treasurer and Senior Road Captain John Tartufo, who helps organize the event each year.
The local Red Knights chapter of about 100 members will join other motorcyclists at the Boardwalk at 27th Street for registration starting at 9 a.m. At 11 a.m., the group gathers on the Boardwalk, where motorcycles decked in American flags and other patriotic trimmings parade down the boards starting at 11:30 a.m.

President Barack Obama appears to be dangerously close to what would be an historic rebuke at the hands of Congress, if the current whip-count projections on the authorization to attack Syria continue to hold.
Pundits on both sides of the aisle say losing the high-stakes bid for congressional authorization would make Obama an instant lame-duck, and might well endanger his entire second-term agenda.
The resolution authorizing an attack on Syrian strongman Bashar Assad, as punishment for his use of chemical weapons against his own people, is still expected to pass the Democratic-controlled Senate.
But the real question mark all along has been whether the administration could muster enough support to get the attack resolution through the House. And there, the situation for the administration appears to be growing dimmer by the hour.

Responders Forced To Improvise When 600-lb Man Falls On Beach
Although an ability to improvise is common to most emergency service personnel, the unique conditions and diverse population of the resort continue to make Ocean City a challenge for even the quickest of wits.
One such scenario was at the end of August when a man weighing nearly 600 pounds was helped off the beach by a multitude of city staff and gear.
“This was the largest person I’ve seen, in-person,” said Ocean City Beach Patrol Lt. Ward Kovacs, who responded to the scene on the evening of Monday, Aug. 19. “The man’s friend, who was trying to help him, informed us that he weighed 590 pounds.”
The beach patrol, as well as the Ocean City Police Department and the Ocean City Fire Department, responded to a call of a man who had fallen on the beach and was unable to stand.

Judge Napolitano: US Strike On Syria Would Be War Crime
A U.S. strike against Syria would be a war crime says former Judge Andrew Napolitano.
Appearing on Fox News Channel on Thursday, Napolitano said that even a limited strike is illegal under international law and violates the U.S. Constitution.
"You can use military force to attack somebody that's attacked you, or you can use military force to attack somebody that's about to attack you," Napolitano said. "You can use military force to come to the aid of an ally that has been attacked when the ally asks for your assistance."

A fire-fighter was working on the engine outside the Station, when he noticed a little girl nearby in a little red wagon with little ladders hung off the sides and a garden hose tightly coiled in the middle.
The girl was wearing a fire-fighter’s helmet.
The wagon was being pulled by her dog and her cat.
The fire-fighter walked over to take a closer look.
'That sure is a nice fire truck,' the fire-fighter said with admiration.
'Thanks,' the girl replied. The fire-fighter looked a little closer. The girl had tied the wagon to her dog's collar and to the cat's testicles.
'Little partner,' the fire-fighter said, 'I don't want to tell you how to run your rig, but if you were to tie that rope around the cat's collar, I think you could go faster. '
The little girl replied thoughtfully, 'You're probably right, but then I wouldn't have a siren.'

Businesses Continue To Shift To Part-Time Jobs
The Labor Department reported the economy created 169,000 jobs in August after adding 104,000 in July. Unemployment fell to 7.3 percent, largely because 516,000 more adults are no longer employed or looking for work.
Businesses continued the shift toward contingent workers. In August, 123,000 more Americans reported working part-time. Since January, the economy has added 813,000 more part-time positions, but only 35,000 full time jobs.
Obamacare's mandates for employer-paid health insurance coverage encourage more part-time hiring. Also driving this trend are the growing importance of services like retailing and hospitality, and rigidity and visceral anti-business campaigns of unions — such as those targeting McDonalds and Wal-Mart.

The drone hunting license sold by Phil Steel of Droneshooters.com for use in Deer Trail, Colo., may just be a novelty, but a thousand people have applied to get one.
DENVER — Hunters in Colorado are lining up for a hot new license: $25 to shoot down a government drone over the village of Deer Trail.
Supporters acknowledge the licenses would be only symbolic, and a town election authorizing them is more than a month away. Still, about 1,000 people have applied for one.

A NEW CANNING HOUSE TOKEN SURFACES
I have collected canning house tokens for many years and the thrill of putting a new token in my collection never lessens. The tokens were used from the 1860’s to about 1950, with tokens from the Eastern Shore starting to show up around 1875. They were used to pay the workers in the canneries and oysters houses for manual labor and were redeemed for cash either at the end of the day or week. Before the child labor laws, children might work all summer, saving their tokens to cash in for their back-to-school clothes (usually shoes – the clothes were hand made at home). Tokens have also been found that were used to pay the pickers in the fields.
Throughout the years of token collecting, I have acquired many tokens through various means. Swapping with fellow collectors has been the most rewarding. In the old days, doubles were the bounty of any other collector that didn’t have them as long as they had doubles that from which could freely select. The long-gone early collectors that swapped this way are only a memory now that everything has a price attached to it. I still give away my doubles to new collectors that show signs of being in the hobby for the love of it rather than any monetary gain. By doing this, I have cultivated some new collectors here on the Shore, and made some new friends.
As a local historian, the knowledge of tokens is a nice addition to the knowledge found in the local history books. This brings me to tell of the latest token to surface. A local dealer called to tell me of three tokens he bought from a man and wanted to know what they were. They were thick red fiber, 24 mm, and had only the initials WFM incused on them. There weren’t any periods after the initials. The main clue he had was from the man he bought them from. The man said they had belonged to his mother. She worked in the office of the W. F. Messick Ice Co. in Salisbury. There is a W. F. Messick & Bro., Allen, MD, listed in R. Lee Burton’s book, Canneries of the Eastern Shore. It is Wicomico No. 57 and was in business at least from 1919-1922. Further research in Ed Kee’s book, Saving Our Harvest, revealed that W. F. Messick & Bro. is listed in the 1919 Canners Directory. The important piece of research that came out of Ed Kee’s book was the fact that the Messick cannery’s office was in Salisbury, the place of the W. F. Messick Ice Co. I imagine that W. F. Messick kept the books for the cannery at his ice company office in Salisbury.
So, with some solid research to back up my claim that the WFM token is from the Messick cannery in Allen, MD, I have added a new token to my Wicomico Countycollection.
This is a token that would have been a Maverick at a flea market if the information had not been available to go along with it. As it is, a good token with good attribution has been added to the list of known tokens. As I’ve always said about token collecting – a good hobby is one that you spend more time than money in accumulating your collection.
