As Election Day Nears, Obama Supporters Step Up Riot Threats

A few weeks ago, Twitchy reported on Twitter users threatening to riot if President Obama loses to GOP rival Mitt Romney. With four days to go until Election Day, we decided this is a topic worth revisiting. The results of our Twitter searches are not pretty:

MEDIA CELEBRATE INCREASED UNEMPLOYMENT, LOWER WAGES

In January of 2009, when President Obama took office, the unemployment rate was 7.8%. Four years and around $5 trillion dollars in debt later, it's 7.9%. When Obama took office the long-term unemployment (U-6) rate was 14.2%. Today, it's 14.6%.

Obama promised us 5.2%.

And, still, the media celebrates the jobs numbers. If you weren't watching the cable nets, consider yourself lucky. It was nauseating. CNN's Erin Burnett and Soledad O'Brien were practically jumping out of their chairs. Need I even describe MSNBC? Keep in mind that the media collective isn't thrilled because these numbers are good news for millions of everyday Americans who are suffering. The media's celebrating because they think these numbers mean well for one person's job -- Obama's.

In the hours since, we've seen the exact same spin from almost every media outlet, analyst, and host.

Rev Who Gave Obama's Inaugural Benediction Reportedly Says he Thinks Whites Going to Hell

The reverend and civil rights advocate who gave the benediction at President Obama’s inauguration suggested at a recent Obama re-election rally that he thinks white people are going to hell -- though he later said it was just a joke.

The Rev. Joseph Lowery spoke at a rally Saturday in Georgia. According to an account in the Monroe County Reporter,

"Lowery said that when he was a young militant, he used to say all white folks were going to hell. Then he mellowed and just said most of them were.

"Now, he said, he is back to where he was," according to the newspaper.

"I don’t know what kind of a n----- wouldn’t vote with a black man running," he also told the audience in the St. James Baptist Church in Forsyth, Ga., according to the paper.

Question 7 Opponents Dispute Education Spending Promises

Opponents of ballot Question 7 embarked on a final push to convince voters Saturday, the same day the expanded gambling measure received an endorsement from Maryland's police and fire unions.

In the final days before the general election, opponents traveled the state by bus in an attempt to persuade would-be voters to reject the measure.

Question 7 would allow 24-hour operations, add table games to existing slots casinos, permit a sixth casino to be built in Prince George's County and provide a tax break to casino operators should the sixth site be approved.

Your readers who travel south to Snow Hill will be glad to know that the Rt. 12 drawbridge is now reopened to all traffic.

The Shelter That Had No Takers

When you enter the Community Center Gym in Crisfield you'd expect to see people taking advantage of a dry facility and people packed from one end to the other.

However, that wasn't the case on Saturday, or any other day since hurricane Sandy hit the Shore.

When I spoke with one of the key representatives about the shelter she told me that 200 people had taken refuge there Friday night. I looked at her and said, I don't think so. I then informed her that they were shutting down food services Saturday at 5:00 and she again said that she didn't believe that to be true.

A few minutes later she came up to me and said, your right. I showed her the images from my camera with everything stacked and still new in the boxes. She said she was just informed that no one had taken advantage of the shelter and that the food distribution at the Community center was in fact being closed down at 5:00 PM.

Because so many homes did in fact have 1 to 4 feet of water in them from the storm, people are just too afraid to leave their homes and have them condemned. Their belief is that they'll have no place to go.

While vouchers are being given to those living in affordable housing units, there's still not enough hotel rooms or lodging available for all of the people being displaced. Some motels in Ocean City have given up 4 rooms, (or so) and are accepting vouchers, they are still in desperate need of additional lodging.

As for the homeowners who may or may not have insurance, they seem to be on their own and many of them are remaining in their soaking wet homes.

NYC Marathon Runners Fill Unexpected Free Time

Sue Johnson refuses to give New York City any more money.

She preferred to shell out for the change fee to move her flight home to Pittsburgh up by 24 hours - leaving on the day she was supposed to run the New York City Marathon.

Many of the runners who had descended on the city from all over the globe worked out their frustrations with a jog Saturday through Central Park, site of a finish line that will never be crossed. Some scrambled to rebook return flights. Others made sightseeing plans for the unexpected free time.

As mentioned yesterday, Billie Chandler opened her Pizza Shoppe in Crisfield to cook whole chickens on the grille to feed all of the volunteers.

Rear Admiral Gaouette And General Ham

Hey Joe,

I wonder why more attention isn't being given to the replacement of Rear Admiral Gaouette and General Ham, in connection with Benghazi rescue operation. Is it really that hard to figure out why these men were relieved of their duties? I'm amazed that this subject isn't news-worthy.

What Would Have Normally Taken 2 Days Only Took 45 Minutes

When your working with a team of 20 people, cutting up a tree this size and moving all of it from the back yard to the street only took us 45 minutes.

Keep in mind Ladies & Gentlemen, thousands of trees like this are still being cut down. This particular tree fell onto this home. Because we had so many in our crew we decided to take all of it to the road.

Protocol in Crisfield right now is to just cut the portion of the tree that hit the house. The help ages ranged anywhere from 15 years old to 70+.

Young Voters’ Attitudes Shift Since 2008

Four years ago, then-presidential candidate Barack Obama had young voters excitedly lining up at the polls and showing up in droves at rallies, eager to help create history by electing the nation’s first black president.

This year, from the economy to social issues to young voters’ enthusiasm over the election, experts say it’s a different game, which explains why the race is so close.

So why is this year’s election so different?

Many young voters have been disillusioned by the state of the economy and the rising cost of higher education. Die-hard Democrats are still die-hard Democrats and ardent Republicans are still ardent Republicans, but more Americans have found themselves in the middle.

Injured Vets Embrace Life At Annual Race

ANNAPOLIS - More than 1,000 people braved the brisk temperatures Sunday morning to run in the 4th Annual John Ripley Memorial Race and show their support for wounded veterans.

The 5-kilometer race benefited the Semper Fi Fund, a non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to disabled military veterans and their families.

B.J. Ganem, a retired Marine Corps sergeant, served in Iraq until he was injured on Thanksgiving night in 2004.

Today, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid pledged to stonewall any attempt by Mitt Romney to pass his agenda if elected. “Mitt Romney’s fantasy that Senate Democrats will work with him to pass his ‘severely conservative’ agenda is laughable,” spat Reid. Of course, when Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) suggested two years into President Obama’s presidency (after the stimulus package and Obamacare) that Obama’s failures to lead in bipartisan fashion made his defeat his first political priority, the left went insane; they still cite the line as evidence that McConnell wouldn’t let Obama get anything done. But Reid is doing it before Romney even takes office.

Said Reid: “Senate Democrats are committed to defending the middle class, and we will do everything in our power to defend them against Mitt Romney’s Tea Party agenda.”

This is the supposed bipartisanship the Democrats stand for.

This is just a note to remind you that there will be FIVE (5) days of dog shows at the Civic Center on Nov 7 (Wed), 8 (Thur), 9 (Fri), 10 (Sat) and 11 (Sun). Each day is a completely separate dog show. There are approximately 5,000 entries in total for the five days. Daily admission fee is $5.00 ( Students $1.00 ) and Five-day Catalog is $12.00. Please note that unentered dogs are not allowed at any of the shows except for the Saturday HEART, EYE, or EAR HEALTH CLINICS WHICH ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

The Salisbury Md Kennel Club was incorporated in 1954 for the purpose of furthering an interest in pure-bred dogs in our community. We are IRS-approved non-profit, with a volunteer membership. Donations to SMKC CHARITABLE TRUST are tax-deductible. This is our 59th year of service to our community. A portion of our profits from operations has been regularly donated to support local dog-related projects. Continuing projects are to equip the police K-9's on the lower shore with safety/bullet-proof vests, and to visit classrooms to teach children about the love and care of their pets.

We have a "state of the art" 8,000 sq.ft. building at 31663 Winterplace Parkway where we have training classes and mini dog shows year-round. We will hold twelve days of Agility trials next year at the Crown building in Fruitland, and we are host to Poodle Club of America's International Dog Show. Our goal is to make our area the dog show capital of the East Coast.

At our invitation, the Talbot Kennel Club moved their show to the Civic Center and will host the Wednesday and Thursday shows. The Mispillion Kennel Club also moved their show to the Civic Center and will host the Sunday dog show. Salisbury Md Kennel Club will host Friday and Saturday shows.

We will appreciate your attendance and support to help make our shows successful.

Ballot Questions And Referendums 2012

I have been contacted by many individuals during the past few weeks regarding balloting questions and referendums. Here is a summary of those questions and my commentary:

Orphan’s Court-Prince George’s County...Would require Orphans Court Judges in Prince Georges County to be members of the Maryland Bar (attorneys). This is specific to Prince Georges County and requested by their delegation members. All of their current Orphan Court Judges are already attorneys and it was expressed that an Orphans Court Judge (who is an attorney) can conduct certain hearings without the need for other judges which saves time and energy. I will be voting “Yes”.

Orphan’s Court-Baltimore County...Would require Orphans Court Judges in Baltimore County to be members of the Maryland Bar (attorneys). This is specific to Baltimore County and requested by their delegation members. All of their current Orphan Court Judges are already attorneys and it was expressed that an Orphans Court Judge (who is an attorney) can conduct certain hearings without the need for other judges which saves time and energy. I will be voting “Yes”.

Removal of Elected Officials...Would prevent corrupt elected officials convicted of a crime from profiting from their elected office and would remove them from office. It is long overdue. I will be voting “Yes”.

Benefits for Illegal Immigrants...Would allow illegal immigrants to receive In-State tuition rates at Maryland State Colleges and Universities if they attended Maryland Public Schools. Montgomery County opted to provide this type of tuition rate at their local community college and it has cost them millions in tax dollars. Since those receiving the break would be counted against the Out-of-State tuition numbers, this would result in budget shortfalls as we count on those out of state students to subsidize the cost for our resident students. We should not reward illegal behavior at the taxpayers expense. I will be voting “No”.

Gerrymandered Redistricting...Would approve the Redistricting Maps drawn up by the governor and his committee. These Congressional maps represent some of the worst gerrymandering in the country and will make it a real challenge to elect more conservatives to congress. We need to have these maps redrawn by the courts. I will be voting “No”.

Gay and Lesbian Marriage...Would change the definition of marriage in Maryland to include homosexual marriage. Marriage between one man and one woman is a foundation stone of our society and should not be changed. “I will be voting “No”.

Expanded Gaming...Would expand gaming in Maryland to include table games and would add a sixth casino site at National Harbor in Prince Georges County. It alters the tax on casinos(currently the highest in the country) and provides $300 million in school construction funds. The bill also allows Veteran organizations across Maryland to have up to 5 non-profit slot machines with the proceeds directed to our Veterans. Locally, it will also stop the flow of over $2 million dollars currently paid out to Baltimore City and Prince Georges County from local impact fees at Ocean Downs. This money would stay on the Eastern Shore for our local government needs. There will be over a thousand jobs involved in construction projects related to the expansion and a billion dollar investment in Maryland. It will also create hundreds of other good paying jobs at each casino and keep Maryland money in Maryland. West Virginia and Delaware have filled out mailboxes and spent tens of millions trying to discourage us from approving this bill. This is not about gaming in Maryland, it is about the business of gaming. For this reason along with the vast local benefits, I will be voting “Yes”.

Md. Dems Out Vote Republicans 3 to 1 In Early Voting

Maryland Democrats, particularly Democratic women, clobbered Republicans in early voting turnout. It’s hard to say what impact this huge Democratic turnout might have for the final results, since no Democratic incumbents in Maryland are considered vulnerable.

Democrats made up two-thirds (66%) of the 430,000 early voters, outvoting Republicans 3.2 to 1, compared to their voter registration edge of 2 to 1, according to the State Board of Elections website. Democratic women made up 42% of early voters, while they make up a third (33%) of total registered voters. Republicans made up 20% of early voters, and independent (unaffiliated) voters made up just 11%.

In fact, the hottest contest for Congress in the 6th district, pitting 10-term Republican incumbent Roscoe Bartlett against Democrat John Delaney, had the lowest percentage of early voting turnout of any of the congressional districts, 10.6% of eligible voters, lower than the statewide average of 11.65%.

Worcester County Sheriff’s Office Press Release 11-5-12

Over the last several months, members of the Worcester County Criminal Enforcement Team and the Ocean City Police Department Narcotics Unit have been conducting several heroin investigations in the Northern part of Worcester County, Maryland, specifically the Berlin and Ocean City area. During the course of these investigations, an individual identified as David Sturgill, age 33, of Berlin, Maryland was identified as a source of heroin.

On October 25, 2012, surveillance of Sturgill indicated that he was traveling to the Baltimore area accompanied by a female, later identified as Lauren Ann Johnson, age 24, of Ocean City, Maryland. On October 26, 2012, search and seizure warrant for Sturgill's vehicle, person and residence was authored by the Criminal Enforcement Team. Members of the Criminal Enforcement Team, Maryland State Police, Worcester County Sheriff's Office, and the Berlin Police Department, conducted a traffic stop of Sturgill’s vehicle in order to execute this search and seizure warrant as Sturgill entered into Worcester County near the intersection of Libertytown Road and Ninepin Branch Road in Berlin, MD. Sturgill and Johnson were taken into custody without incident. As a result of this search and seizure warrant being executed on Sturgill and his vehicle, investigators subsequently located and seized the following items:

· 105 individually wrapped bags of heroin

· Digital scale

· Various items of paraphernalia

· Sturgill's 2006 Ford F-150 pickup truck

At approximately, 1740 hours, law enforcement executed the search and seizure warrant on Sturgill's residence located in Berlin, Maryland. This search and seizure warrant was executed without incident and resulted in the seizure of the following items:

· Various items of paraphernalia

Sturgill and Johnson were both charged with the following offenses:

· Possession of Heroin

· Possession with intent to distribute Heroin

· Possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia (hypodermic syringe)

· Possession of controlled Paraphernalia (hypodermic syringe)

This investigation was a success due to the combined efforts of the Worcester County Criminal Enforcement Team, the Ocean City Police Department Narcotics Unit and the DEA Salisbury Post of Duty and Baltimore Field Division. During the execution of the search and seizure warrants the Worcester County Criminal Enforcement Team was assisted by the Maryland State Police, Worcester County Sheriff's Office Patrol Division, Worcester County State's Attorney's Office, A.T.F. and the Berlin Police Department. Sturgill and Johnson were transported to the Worcester County District Court Commissioners Office for an initial appearance. Sturgill was subsequently committed to the Worcester County Jail on a $10,000.00 bond and Johnson was committed on a $15,000.00 bond.

With No Farm Bill, Maryland Dairy Farmers Lose Safety Net

“You can’t turn these cows on and off,” said Bill Kilby, whose family has owned a dairy farm in Cecil County, Md., since 1961. “You cannot stop feeding the cows, you’ve got to take care of them.”

That’s the simple rationale for why the federal government has continuously, since the Great Depression, passed some sort of agricultural-support legislation.

Farmers, unlike computer companies or automakers, can’t ramp up production when demand spikes and they can’t easily decrease their expenses when prices for their products drop. The crops need to be planted and tended to, the animals need to be fed, regardless of what the market is paying for their goods.

The U.S. is currently without a farm bill, a massive legislative package that includes financial support programs for farmers. The last one expired Sept. 30, and has not been renewed by Congress.

Beware Of Salisbury Zoo Scam

Salisbury News has learned someone is going door to door in Salisbury trying to raise money for the new Giraffe Exhibit at the Salisbury Zoo. The problem is, there's no Giraffe Exhibit, nor will there be one any time soon.

This is what you get when you have TWO Non Profits running around trying to raise millions of dollars. Opportunists come along where they see an easy buck and they start scamming innocent people and steal their hard earned money.

The City of Salisbury needs to gain some sort of control with the Salisbury Zoo so that more people don't fall victim of such scams. Nevertheless, you have been warned. Don't give money to people coming door to door trying to raise bogus money for the Salisbury Zoo.

Boy Killed In fall, Mauling At Pa. Zoo Exhibit

A young boy visiting the Pittsburgh zoo with his mother and friends was killed Sunday when he fell about 14 feet off a deck into an exhibit that's home to a pack of African painted dogs, who pounced on the boy and mauled him, zoo officials said.

It's not clear whether he died from the fall or the attack, said Barbara Baker, president and CEO of the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium.

When the boy fell, other visitors immediately told staff members, who responded along with Pittsburgh police. Zookeepers called off the dogs, and seven of them immediately went to a back building. Three more eventually were drawn away from the boy, but the last dog wouldn't come into the building, and police had to shoot him, Baker said.

New York Daily News Joins Growing Number Of Newspapers Switching Endorsement To Romney

One of New York’s most influential and traditionally Democratic media organizations pulled a stunner Sunday when it reversed its 2008 endorsement of Barack Obama to join the New York Post in endorsing Mitt Romney.

“Four years ago, the Daily News endorsed Obama, seeing a historic figure whose intelligence, political skills and empathy with common folk positioned him to build on the small practical experience he would bring to the world’s toughest job,” the endorsement in part states. “We valued Obama’s pledge to govern with bold pragmatism and bipartisanship. The hopes of those days went unfulfilled.”
