Hundreds of people who purchased VIP Tickets enjoyed the after party for dancing, drinks and a ice cream spread to die for! Yes, even Fernando Guerrero joined in the party and showed up some of the dancers on the dance floor.

Skate Park Fundraiser A Huge Success

Talent, balance, skills, energy, practice, encouragement and a place to achieve such interests is what's been the driving force behind a place for all of our children to go and enjoy.

Rather than asking the taxpayers to front the money to achieve the goal of a new Skate Park, many adults and children have been getting together to fund raise to get what it takes to make this dream a reality.

Mayor Jim Ireton attended the event in what seemed like the busiest Saturday I have seen in years, filled with activities everywhere. To those of you who invited Salisbury News to your event, we're sorry we couldn't make them all. This one seemed to be one of the many we felt we wanted to be sure we participated with.

We have provided many photos over two posts I thought you might enjoy seeing. I'm not sure just how much they raised on Saturday but hopefully someone can chime in and let us know how well things went. I had to leave somewhat early because of all of the other events going on. One thing we know for sure though, they're much closer to reaching their goal with the turn out that they had.

Skateboard Park Fundraiser

They came both young and old to participate in raising money for a new Skate Board Park in Salisbury.

This time the participants were close to double what they had the last time they held this event with well more than 100+ skaters.

Even John Robinson joined in after opening his new Skate Board Shop in the Court Plaza and gave away free tee shirts for the first 50 participants.

John, they make helmets to save lives or at least to keep you from banging your head and becoming a Dee, Dee, Deeeee. That strap thing, it's supposed to be secured. We do need to set the example, for what it's worth.

School Bus 15 Kids Going To Hospital For Check

Fifteen children complained of back pain heading to School in Salisbury. The Bus was stopped on Rt. 50 in front of the Salisbury Police Department. All we have been told so far is that 15 children are going to the Hospital to be checked for back injuries. More to come.....

A Good Drug Problem To Have

Isn't this the truth! Why can't our countries leaders understand the simple solution to most of our societies problems?

The City/County Auction

Man, you talk about junk! Pete Richardson certainly had his hands full when it came to the City/County auction this past Saturday!

Municipalities don't unload items like they used to. In today's economy they use everything until there's next to nothing left use wise out of it. However, the Ford Ranger Pickup Truck the City had scheduled for this auction was pulled by Mayor Ireton because it only had 50,000 miles on it and it just made no sense to get rid of it. The County, on the other hand, had a Mazda P/U Truck there with 50,000 miles on it and I'm sure someone got a great buy out of that vehicle.

I stuck around because there were 6 very heavy duty park benches at the sale and I was determined to get them to place around our ponds here at the Albero Ranch. I was successful in my bid and came home with the prize.

As you can see from some of the pictures I've provided, I look at the station wagon and I think, yep, old Chiefy See made damn sure this vehicle didn't go to auction this time with all the equipment still on it. Good work Chiefy. Funny part is, every time I see that hunk of crap I can still see Larry Dodd behind the wheel.

I'm sure it was a LONG day for Pete Richardson and company as they had hundreds of bicycles to sell off, tires, rims, desks, chairs like I've never seen before. You know what they say, one man's junk is another mans treasure.

Elderly Floridian

An elderly Floridian called 911 on her cell phone to report that her car has been broken into. She is hysterical as she explains her situation to the dispatcher: 'They've stolen the stereo, the steering wheel, the brake pedal and even the accelerator! ' she cried.

The dispatcher said, 'Stay calm. An officer is on the way.'

A few minutes later, the officer radios in. 'Disregard,' he says.
'She got in the back-seat by mistake.'

When Satan Came To Church

A few minutes before the church services started, the congregation was sitting in the pews and talking.

Suddenly, Satan appeared at the front of the church.

Everyone started screaming and running for the back entrance, trampling each other in a frantic effort to get away from evil incarnate.

Soon the church was empty except for one elderly gentleman who sat calmly in his pew without moving, seemingly oblivious to the fact that God's ultimate enemy was in his presence.

So Satan walked up to the man and said, "Do you know who I am?

The man replied, "Yep, sure do."

"Aren't you afraid of me?" Satan asked.

"Nope, sure ain't." said the man.

Don't you realize I can kill you with one word?" asked Satan.

"Don't doubt it for a minute, " returned the old man, in an even tone..

"Did you know that I can cause you profound, horrifying agony for all eternity?" persisted Satan.

"Yep," was the calm reply.

"And you're still not afraid?" asked Satan.

"Nope," said the old man.

More than a little perturbed, Satan asked,

"Why aren't you afraid of me?"

The man calmly replied, "Been married to your sister for 48 years."

ESIS Annual Judged Show Huge Success

Debbie Campbell (Salisbury) and her mother, Ann Smith, with prize winning irises “Frosted Fantasy.”


Salisbury - The Eastern Shore Iris Society, an affiliate of the American Iris Society, hosted its annual judged show on Sunday, May 10th. Nearly 200 specimens were exhibited in 16 classes and two divisions. Cultivar “Frosted Fantasy” grown and exhibited by Debbie Campbell of Salisbury, garnered the title of Queen of the Show (Best in Show). Frosted Fantasy is a white tall bearded iris. Campbell says that her love for iris gardening came from her grandmother, Naomi Long, who was a longtime member of ESIS and brought Debbie along to club functions when she was small. Campbell says that throughout her lifetime, gardening has been a joy that she has shared with family and friends, especially when it comes to iris cultivation. Campbell is currently seeking youth interested in becoming junior AIS members who would like to grow iris and show blooms in future judged shows.

Among other top specimens receiving top runners-up honors were “Thornbird,” a space-age iris, also entered by Campbell; “Vanity,” a pink tall bearded iris entered by Janice Harrington of Laurel, DE; “Lighter Moment” a blue/ purple miniature tall bearded entered by Dee Hunter; and “Stellar Lights,” a deep blue tall bearded iris also entered by Janice Harrington. Campbell said that while it was an exciting honor that her gardening efforts had produced this year’s top iris, “the results of a good day’s work in the garden are a fine reward in itself, so everyone was a winner.“

The group is also well known by local garden enthusiasts for its annual rhizome sale, which will be held on July 25 this year at the Centre at Salisbury. “Mark your calendar for some of the best deals you’ll ever find on iris and varieties that equal or surpass most catalog offerings,” says Ann Dumler. A New Business In Town

Hi Joe, We went to the new deli last night in Pecan Square, (Deli at Pecan Square) I sincerely hope the locals will support these fine folks, the food was great with perfect amounts and reasonably priced. Check them out for yourself, I think you will agree. Oh, I don't know these folks by name but the lady came to our table and was genuinely interested in our satisfaction, don't get that too much these days.

Monday Morning Posts

As I'm sure many of you could tell, I took some time off this weekend so I could get out to many of these events and then find some Albero Time away from the Blog, which is something I rarely do.

However, once you see the pictures I'll be delivering tomorrow morning you'll see it was well worth the time away.

Republicans Salute Obama's Military Tack

Even as congressional Democrats feuded last week with the CIA in what at times seemed to be a throwback to the 1970s, President Obama was headed in the other direction in what may have been his most active week yet as commander in chief.

He pushed through the House a spending bill to finance the war in Afghanistan and reversed himself, deciding to fight the release of photos purportedly showing humiliating treatment of detainees in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Mr. Obama also announced he would have some detainees at the U.S. Naval Base Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, tried by military commissions, putting him at odds with much of his liberal political base, but winning striking praise from Republicans who contrasted his sober decisions against the accusations of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that the CIA has lied to her and Congress continually.

Once again, spring has arrived. With this, the National Zoo is keeping a 24 hr watch on the female panda for a possible birth. She's started nesting over the weekend which is a positive sign.

Update - Milton Robbery - Suspect Arrested

Milton - The Delaware State Police have made an arrest in the Robbery that occurred on May 12.

Troopers assigned to the Governor's Task Force (GTF) out of Troop 4, located and arrested Chevelle D. Morris, 45 of Millsboro early last evening. Morris was wanted in connection to the Robbery that occurred on Cool Springs Road on May 12. She was brought back to Troop 4 where she was formally charged with Robbery 1st degree and Burglary 2nd degree and later committed to Sussex Correctional Institute in Georgetown on $25,000.00 cash bail.

FORMER SU LAX PLAYER HELPS TO DEFEAT SEA GULLS!

Really, I thought that this only happened in pro sports.

In this week’s NCAA tournament game, and in two other games this year with Stevenson, a former Sea Gull player, Brett Yoder, played big for his new team and against the Gulls. This week he scored 3 goals for Stevenson, which won 11 to 9. Two weeks ago, when SU won, 13 to 5, he had 1 goal. In the first game, in early April, he had an assist and played aggressively on ground balls, also causing several turnovers in Stevenson’s 12–8 win.

During the years he played for the Sea Gulls, 2005 to 2007, Yoder had 30 goals and 55 assists and played on two national champion teams. This year he may play for another national champion, but on a different team. That’s how the ball bounces these days.

There may be a bit of rivalry with Kylor Berkman of SU, who was a first team All-American midfielder in 2007, when Yoder was an honorable mention A-A at that position. Berkman was again selected on the first team last year.

Does anyone know why Yoder left SU (apparently after the 2007 season)?

Another Incident In Multiple DUI Offender Arrest – Seventh Offense DUI

Milton – The Delaware State Police have arrested a 45 year old Milford Man for a seventh offense of Driving under the Influence after he was observed driving erratically by a Delaware State Trooper on Cedar Creek Road in Milton yesterday at approximately 4:00 pm.

The trooper was on patrol when he observed a pick-up truck traveling in front of his patrol vehicle begin to drive across the center line of the roadway. This occurred several times and then the pick-up began to drive off the right shoulder of the road.

The trooper conducted a traffic stop and encountered Jeffrey H. Salevan, 45 of Milford as the operator. In the passenger seat was a 10 year old Milford girl that was the daughter of a friend of his. The trooper immediately detected a strong odor of alcohol and observed in plain view of the truck several open beer cans including one in the center console.

A standard DUI investigation ensued and Mr. Salevan failed field sobriety tests. A computer check of his license status revealed his drivers license was suspended an that he had six prior DUI convictions on 03/16/02, 07/01/97, 03/01/96, 02/03/92, 05/30/89 and 02/05/88.

He was taken into custody without incident and arrested for Felony DUI, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Drinking while Driving, Driving on a Suspended Driver’s License, Failure to Drive within Lane Markings and Possession of a Suspended Driver’s License. He was incarcerated at the Sussex Correctional Institute in lieu of a $5000.00 cash only bail.

More On The West O.C. Pedestrian Death

"Witnesses say the pedestrian ran across the westbound lanes, entered the median and fell into the path of a 2008 Jeep Wrangler driven by Luis A. Rodriguez, 29, of Massapequa Park, N.Y.
The teen was transported by Ocean City EMS and pronounced deceased at Atlantic General Hospital.
Authorities say both directions of Route 50 were shut down for four hours.
According to detectives, through field sobriety tests it was found that Rodriguez was intoxicated.
Rodriguez was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol perse and driving while impaired. He was taken before the District Court Commissioner and held on $5,000 bond."

WICOMICO PAYING STEEP PRICE FOR NOT DIVERSIFYING INDUSTRY

Wicomico County has become increasingly vulnerable to economic downturns as a result of non-diversity in industry types. Listed on MACO - (Maryland Association of Counties) - Wicomico is the only County out of 24 Maryland jurisdictions that list Education as its primary industry.

Despite what you hear about Agriculture or Poultry, Wicomico County's largest employer is in the Education Department.

So it should come as no surprise that when the revenue streams start to dry-up on news of any economic downturn in the US economy, that the Educational Industry will also follow suit. The only exception to this scenario is the Federal Government located in and around St. Mary's County or Southern Maryland. In that area they can just print more money and raise their debt limit masking the real economic realities. That's what helped to spawn the tea party rebellions held across America just a few weeks ago.

During economic downturns most all other Industries throughout our Country try to downsize, cut overhead, shave benefits, and that should be the same technique being considered here in Wicomico. What happened the other night with the BOE voting to increase their health care benefit package in the midst of the greatest recession since 1929 - has got to have ramifications for those of us that are primarily on the paying end - the Taxpayers. Moreover, the audacity to raise these benefits is discriminatory against the minions of other government agencies ranked in the system that are already having to make similar and even larger sacrifices.

A civilized society cannot exist by exempting certain groups based upon a system that ignores the economic realities of our Free Enterprise System. It didn't work when the British tried to imposed their will by imposing tax on the Colonies and it ought not work now.

So stay tuned Delmarva as we enter 2009 and prepare the budgets for 2010. I do not see any immediate economic relief in sight for the near future. Just this past week we saw Chrysler announce additional closures with GM following suit. Next week it is likely GM will file for bankruptcy protection. We've now seen failures of Citcorp, AIG, Bears Stearns, Fannie Mae, Freddy Mac, among many other industry giants. Oil is starting to rise again and the economic storm winds are starting to brew yet again. We now have a President that is assigning new Corporate salaries while simultaneously replacing CEOs. Socialism is on every channel - (exception CNN, NBC) - while GE's CEO, Jeffrey Immelt, is trying to cash-in for his supporting of Obama by riding on the administration's coat tails.

And just this morning it was announced that the Federal Governments stake in GM could be as large as 70%. That's right you heard it, the Federal Government will have a 70% stake in one of America's largest private industries. Now if that is not fitting the precise definition of Socialism I don't know what is.
