As a growing number of Maryland public school teachers prepare for in-person learning, on campus, some may have day care issues.
With that in mind, close to a dozen school districts may have found a way for teachers to bring their children to work.
Harford County teachers will walk into school buildings on Oct. 12, a little more than a week ahead of students, but what will that mean for teachers who are also parents?
“We have a structure in place that we could allow staff to have their children at the learning center,” said Harford County Schools Superintendent Sean Bulson. Many of the teachers were running out of options for childcare.
“There really is a short window for them to make this decision,” Harford County Education Association President Chrystie Crawford-Smick said.
“If teachers are being asked to return back to the classroom, they need to make sure that there is an opportunity for their children to be able to learn during the day,” Crawford-Smick said.
Besides Harford County, administrators in Baltimore City, Calvert, Caroline, Charles, Kent and St. Mary's counties are also allowing teachers to bring their children to school. The arrangement was included in their school reopening plans submitted to the Maryland State Board of Education.

This is garbage, open schools and let Those that want to be in school and learn do that and those that wish to keep there children home May enter into home school programs. Enough is enough. No one else is getting free babysitters for work. This generation is being set up to fail and it’s working. Kids went to summer school and everyone is fine. Kids are in private school and they are fine. Play time is over , if we can’t have public schools we need tax credits for the private school I’m paying for For my younger kid and the tutor for my older kid . I’m over this and I’m not the only one.
Wow, imagine that "day care issues"
What the heck do they think the rest of us have been doing ALL SUMMER!
Now my kid is doing school at work with me, good luck concentrating on customers, phones, background noise and all the other multi-tasking and accounting tasks.
I hope it work out for them !
Thank you Worcester for doing the same!
More money is spent in Baltimore school district then any place in the country. Upon graduation most students are not proficient in basic math or science. Good job hogan
It took a national crisis to address the availability of daycare - AT the workplace - specifically for civil servants (local, state and federal levels of government). It has been discussed for decades with very little resolution because of resourcing.
Maybe this currently change in social climate could change the can't do mindset.
Maybe not.
School teachers get all the benefits but they love to cry poverty. Whiney ass Liberal Douche Bags!
So what have these parent teachers been doing with their children while they conduct virtual learning? Letting them interrupt the teaching from what I've been hearing.
Another scam by blacks. How many of us have seen black co-workers do this very same thing over the years?? How many have seen blacks use SCHOOLS for church on Sundays??? But if White's ever try these things. They'd be told absolutely not.
Dorchester county cte has been going for a month now. Don't group all teachers the same. Kudos to those In Dorchester county.
I feel like a broken record (for those that remember what a record is). This is a great thing for the teachers. What about the other staff children? What if you work in IT, or are a custodian? Do you get the same bring your kid to work benefits? By the time you start adding in all the staff kids, you might as well open the school.
Yes, all staff can be bring their children if needed.
I'm a teacher and refused to do that because it is unprofessional. My children stay with my retired parents during the day and I come get them and spend the entire night teaching them all their asynchronous work. Not all teachers suck. Some of us work hard and maintain professionalism. That being said, I just want schools to open. This is all ludicrous.
#preach
Couldn't agree more, open it up! Wicomico only let half their teachers bring kids with them to school. Primary schools could but secondary schools couldn't. Heard it was because Brady and Hanlin refused to make an actual decision. So glad to pay their paychecks.
