US Beach Towns Fear Collapse As Summer Of Pandemic Causes Havoc

The executive director of the Bethany-Fenwick Chamber of Commerce, Lauren Weaver, told USA Today that "our businesses (located on the southern tip of the Delmarva Peninsula) have 12 weeks to make money to survive the rest of the year... sales for the town's 75 or so beach-district merchants are down 40% to 70% compared with a year ago."

Weaver warned: "A lot of them are not going to survive" this season.

Bethany-Fenwick is an upscale beach community, home to wealthy elites, such as Joe Biden.

The virus pandemic has made it challenging for local businesses to operate, many of whom only make money during the summer months.

Down the street, about 20 minutes south, revenue for businesses in Ocean City, Maryland, is down 20% to 25%, said Susan Jones, head of the Ocean City Hotel-Motel-Restaurant Association.

Jones said the city's decision to reopen beaches in early May despite the virus pandemic helped businesses survive. She said this year is a not a profitability story, but rather a breakeven story.

Back to Rehoboth and Dewey Beaches, which are a string of beach towns that generate more than $3.5 billion in annual revenue, according to Southern Delaware Tourism. Much of the area is dependent on travel and tourism.

Ocean City completely disregarded all safety protocols in a mad dash for cash. Unfortunately they will be paying for it for years to come. Delaware, with its people first strategy, will rebound next year.

Biden owns a 5 million dollar home on the water and was on location few days ago. Didn’t stop anywhere to say hi or give a plan to get economy going but then again he is much more concerned on joining the Paris agreement and W.H.O getting funding to keep his bff China happy

Dah. . .I guess so when the government can impose civil citations for up to $10,000 for violating transportation quarantining certifications, prior to ingress and egress into most cities. Not to mention the potential facemask violations. Fact is - we are now under Marshall law - plain-and-simple.

Absolutely disgusting. The left doesn’t care about lives they only care about destroying businesses. Only fools would want everything shut down. State and federal workers you’re next!

Good maybe prices will come down..but since these towns pander and bend knees for any libtard cause that comes along..they have not been any fun for decades.

8:43. Mad dash for cash? Most people call it making a living. Let’s shut your business down and see how you make it. Oh wait, bet you’ve never worked for a private business. Probably a state worker or on government assistance.

Keep voting for your liberal mayor's, legislators, and governor. You voted for the same people keeping you closed. Hell you voted for Biden over 40 years. He and Carpenter DESTROYED manufacturing in Delaware.

Have you read any of the articles on OC. Most bussinesses have gone above and beyond. I think a great job has been done so far. I hope that most are able to at minimum pay their bills. DE was open before OC. So not sure your point. I hope all survive. Kudos to anyone trying to navigate this hot mess. A lot of these local people give back to the community. Why wish them ill will? I don't get it.

After the first week in November things will ease up.

Easy 954 - everyone makes choices. Don't knock someone for their opinion even if its WRONG.....or right.

How will they be paying for it? Are you envisioning scenes of a zombie wasteland, as those lucky enough to be alive fail to wear the mask properly, and the corpses violate social distancing? Terrifying images from "The Night of the 99.7% Survival Rate". You'll have to watch it from home, though, as the theaters are all closed. The only permanent harm that has come to OC came at the hands of recently economically stimulated youths ($600 a week) from the states liberal inner city hell holes, enraged at the false portrayal of a fentanyl user's televised death, and coddled by a flaccid judicial system. Those scenes turned out to be real life.

This is just a small sample of what socialism does.

9:54 you may need to be open 6 months before heading to your hideaway oasis for the remainder of the year while hardworking folks show up to work 5 or 6 days every week! Horrible to be you.....
