Did Japan Just Beat the Virus Without Lockdowns or Mass Testing?

Japan’s state of emergency is set to end with new cases of the coronavirus dwindling to mere dozens. It got there despite largely ignoring the default playbook.

No restrictions were placed on residents’ movements, and businesses from restaurants to hairdressers stayed open. No high-tech apps that tracked people’s movements were deployed. The country doesn’t have a center for disease control. And even as nations were exhorted to “test, test, test,” Japan has tested just 0.2% of its population -- one of the lowest rates among developed countries.

Yet the curve has been flattened, with deaths well below 1,000, by far the fewest among the Group of Seven developed nations. In Tokyo, its dense center, cases have dropped to single digits on most days. While the possibility of a more severe second wave of infection is ever-present, Japan has entered and is set to leave its emergency in just weeks, with the status lifted already for most of the country and Tokyo and the remaining four other regions set to exit Monday.

No No No 933 - they hunkered down, had been wearing masks for years, don't eat candy/chips, smoke an awful lot, love their fellow man/woman.

We (USA):

- don't hunker down (too impatient)

- don't wear masks (hahahahaha - hate being told what to do)

- don't eat well (hence the most obese nation in the world)

- still have 1/4 of the nation smoke (hmmmmm, maybe that was wrong after the fact)

- do hate one another

Well?

Alcoholism is a big problem in Japan and people are smoking everywhere. You can still smoke anywhere in most restaurants. Some have smoking areas but most don't.
Also in most Asian countries they don't just wear masks outside they wear them at home because they are smarter in that respect and know viruses are always spread with few exceptions during prolonged close contact.
To even suggest candy and chips aren't common in Japan is absurd. Japan has some of the highest rates in the world for chronic diseases. Obesity is rare in Japan but they do tend to have a higher activity level. They walk A LOT. Food prices are high also. Buddhism plays a role also. Shaming is accepted in Buddhism so fat shaming is not only accepted but expected.

They do smoke and if you have kept up with statistics, smokers, for some reason seem to be immune from the Wuhan virus. Also, the Japanese do have a far healthier diet than other nations. Rarely will you see an obese citizen.

The reason Japan and a few other countries can do it like this is because their populations are well behaved. He have fringe sides on our demographics that are not well behaved and just do what they want. The Japanese truly said okay I can already work from home I’ll stay home. Employers did that as well for anyone who could work from home. Those who could not still went to work, they stopped eating out on there own etc. The Japanese people will truly do what’s best for their country vs America where we only care about ourselves.

1148 - totally forgot about the shame factor that continues in that society. SO very true.

Hell we have tried for YEARS to shame ourselves via COPS, LIVE PD, etc - but they garner more ratings than SHAME!
