Robert F. Kennedy's granddaughter and her young son missing on Chesapeake Bay, family says

A Kennedy family spokesperson confirmed Friday that two missing people last seen in a canoe off Chesapeake Bay Thursday evening are Maeve Kennedy McKean, 41, and her eight-year-old son, Gideon. Kennedy McKean is the granddaughter of Robert F. Kennedy and daughter of Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, the former Maryland lieutenant governor.

"At this time our family asks for privacy and that everyone keep Maeve and Gideon in their prayers," said a statement from a family spokesman. Maryland Governor Larry Hogan also confirmed their identities at the start of his coronavirus press conference Friday, and said an "intensive search" was underway.

"I reached out to, and spoke with Lieutenant Governor Townsend this morning," Hogan said. "And, on behalf of the people of Maryland, I expressed our most heartfelt sympathies and prayers to her and to her entire family during this difficult time."

If I was related to this bunch of born losers' I'd do nothing but stay indoors away from anything to avoid a death. Flying, boating, driving, skiing, Parades, jogging, everything is dangerous with this family!

It's a family of risk takers.

It has been very windy. I hope they find them safe.

Bad luck family born under bad luck stars!

Bay water temperature is cold enough they are dead. Wasting time looking for them, but with nothing else going on I guess....

If they followed the "rules" they would be locked in there house like the rest of us.

truth is, many don't know the danger...not the lack of life preservers but the cold water! 20 minutes in the water is all you have.

All this for a ball?

God bless the family my heart goes out to them all. I can't believe the jealousy and mean comments on this. Let's show them that not all Marylanders are heartless.

Husband had come out to say they have passed away, search is ending. All of this because they chased a ball that went into the water. Such a normal thing that everyone does on a daily basis, turns so tragic. Since they were just going for the ball, they probably didnt put on life jackets, got pulled out into the rough bay waters, and capsized and drown. Such a tragic way to go.
