Police investigate fatal double shooting in Mount Airy

MOUNT AIRY, Md. — The Carroll County Sheriff's Office said it is investigating after a man killed his wife and an 18-year-old in Mount Airy.

According to police, just before 3 p.m. on Thursday, Carroll County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Maryland State Police troopers and Mount Airy Police officers responded to the area of 7900 Bennett Branch Road for a report of shots fired.

When officers arrived, they found an 18-year-old, identified as Noah Homayouni, in the yard of the home suffering from gunshot wounds.

First responders provided life-saving efforts until medics arrived, police said. Homayouni was transported by ambulance to the Mount Airy carnival grounds where he died before he was air lifted, police said.

Police said deputies arrived at the original address on Bennett Branch Road and found Heather Zujkowski, 36, who was also shot. She was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said.

Police said the initial investigation revealed that the suspect, identified as Joseph Zujkowski, 35, with a Gaithersburg, Montgomery County address, was at the Bennett Branch Road address, where his wife Heather and their children lived.

For reasons unknown, police said Joseph Zujkowski opened fire with a rifle, striking his wife.
