APARTMENT COMPLEX TENANT CHARGED WITH ARSON

SALISBURY, WICOMICO COUNTY (April 11, 2020) Deputy State Fire Marshals have concluded an overnight fire investigation with the arrest of one adult male.

On April 10, 2020 The Salisbury Fire Department was dispatched at 11:27 pm to 1514 Riverside Drive for an Automatic Fire Alarm on the property known as the Pine Bluff Village Apartments. While in route to the alarm further information was received by the Wicomico County 911 Center and the incident was upgraded to a building fire. Units arrived on location to find tenant evacuation taking place with a fire in a second floor apartment being controlled by the building’s automatic fire sprinkler system. The incident brought 20 firefighters to the scene and was declared under control in 45 minutes.

Incident Command requested the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office to the scene to conduct an origin and cause investigation. Upon completing the fire scene examination, the fire was determined to be incendiary. The investigation led to the development of the sole tenant of the apartment of origin as the person responsible for setting the fire.

With the assistance of the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect was found at a nearby local convenience store and detained until Deputy State Fire Marshals could arrive. At that time, the suspect, identified as 38 year old Alan Jackson Banks III was placed under arrest. Banks was transported to Wicomico County Central Booking without incident. Banks was charged with 1st Degree Arson & Reckless Endangerment.

No injuries were reported from fire personnel or the 48 tenants that occupied the building at the time of the incident.
