Maryland is the worst state to retire in, according to Bankrate.com. It scores terribly in affordability, crime, culture and wellness. The only category where it performed well was weather. In 2018, the state logged 500 violent crimes per 100,000 residents, and the state's major city, Baltimore, ranked as the third most dangerous city in the U.S.
Many retirees choose not to live in Maryland due to awful winter storms, terrible road quality and painful traffic congestion. Also, the state’s high cost of living, taxes and health care costs could have retirees burning through their retirement funds extremely quickly.

THANKS BALTIMORE AND SALISBURY ALL DEMOCRAT RIGHT JAKE ?
No surprise to me ☹️
The biggest reason not to retire in Maryland? BLUE STATE!!!!!
The corrupt democrats do everything in their power to make sure there are no intelligent, seasoned, informed, educated voters in md...it might change their power structure. Those with government jobs vote to grow gov and protect their jobs then flee md upon their retirement.
With the exception of the current Governor, the politicians are hell-bent on making it worse!
Welcome to D-bury !!! Bad jobs / No Jobs hellhole
Told ya get out while the getting is good ..cause its gonna get worse
Maryland is run by a strip that runs from Baltimore to PG County. Most of them work for the US govt. They come here for the Government jobs, vote in Demonrats then move to other states that are more tax friendly.
These criteria and ratings are based on general overall assessments. I own homes in three states. What I have learned is the demographics, taxes and overall cost of living vary by county in each state. For example in Maryland, Worcester County property taxes, piggyback tax, crime, excluding the resort, remain relatively low. Since it is in close proximity to the ocean climate, weather remains fairly mild. As far as recreation and fun activities, many including state and national parks are within a short driving distance.
I could critique the advantages of the counties in the other states where I own homes, but I think you get the point. One should look closely at the county in a particular state and its diversity at the same time avoiding settlement in a municipality for obvious tax and additional cost of living reasons.
THANK a democ🐀 and Rino Hogan.
10:40 why don't you compare literacy and education rates in red vs blue states and get back to me.
MD Govt sucks !!! Taxes too High / Demon-crat state !!!!
We bought a home on the Eastern Shore (Fruitland) - our retirement home. After 8 years we sold it and moved to another State where we could afford to live a better life without giving our retirement money to the State. Never regretted moving.
Why retire and get fat?
