President Trump’s administration on Monday started implementing the federal regulation geared toward stopping likely welfare-dependent legal immigrants from permanently resettling in the United States.
After the U.S. Supreme Court gave the green light for the regulation, the Trump administration has now begun applying what is known as the “Public Charge” rule — a rule whereby legal immigrants are less likely to secure a permanent residency in the U.S. if they have used any forms of welfare in the past, including any cash benefits for income maintenance, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)– otherwise known as food stamps, Medicaid, and certain taxpayer-funded housing programs.
Acting Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Deputy Secretary Ken Cuccinelli said in a statement that the Public Charge rule is merely a continuation of “longstanding law” dating back to the 1800s. Most recently in 1996, a rule demanding legal immigrants be self-sufficient was codified into federal statute but has hardly ever been enforced. Cuccinelli said:
"This rule enforces long-standing law requiring aliens to be self-sufficient, reaffirming the American ideals of hard work, perseverance, and determination. It also offers clarity and expectations to aliens considering a life in the United States and will help protect our public benefits programs."

More winning! Go Trump!
My wife is a French citizen. We HAVE to be interviewed IN PERSON by an immigration officer in Baltimore. One of the more important questions they will focus on, according to our attorney, is whether or not I can support her and if she will be a burden on the taxpayers if she is allowed to remain in the United States.
Would it help if I told them I just swam across the Rio Grande last week and I am not fluent in English, have three kids who have a couple of diseases, and not sure if I'm a man or woman??
I'm ALL in on the so-called "wealth test".
Quit taking in the worst, poorest, least desirable people across the planet and start admitting more teachers, scientists, and engineers....you know, people I DON'T have to give money to??? I have my own problems and really can't afford to help 100 Peruvian mothers bring their 300 children here.
My "leaders", of course, think I have an ATM in my ace and they can withdraw anytime they like.
While they build a fence around THEIR house and hire armed guards to make sure the Peruvians don't get TOO close to THEM...
Trump 2020.
You will need to change the inscription on the Statue of Liberty.
11:57...written a long time ago, BEFORE welfare and food stamps.
It addressed The "tired, the poor and the huddled masses" in a WHOLE different meaning than today.
Back then it welcomed people who wanted to be free and strive for a better life -- through the freedom to pursue any dream they wanted to follow and WORK to achieve. NOT to get a free 3 bedroom apartment and welfare for life while OTHER PEOPLE took care of them.
The American dream has ALWAYS been the great attractor, but it NEVER meant "sneak into the U.S any way you can and hold out your hands to be GIVEN what other people have worked their lives for"....
I'm all for LEGAL immigration, but don't disrespect our laws and then claim victimhood.
You DO know that we admit more immigrants every year to our country than most of the civilized world combined???
And, we still have THIRTY MILLION people who didn't think the law applied to them???
We NEED employees. Americans are not reproducing. Get informed
