Trump says he will try to attend July 4 fireworks at Mount Rushmore

President Trump said he would try to visit Mount Rushmore on the Fourth of July to watch the planned fireworks.

"I called up our people and in 15 minutes got it approved, and we will have the first fireworks display at Mount Rushmore, and I will try and get out there if I can," Trump said Wednesday.

Trump has brushed off environmental concerns about the fireworks display at the South Dakota landmark, which has not had fireworks since 2009 when they were discontinued over concerns related to the pine beetle infestation in the Black Hills National Forest.

Their reason for stopping them back in 2009 seems stupid. How does "Perchlorate" that is in fireworks help spread Pine beetles? Seems like this was stopped by Osama/Obama because he just hated America.

If he does, he's racist. If he doesn't, he's racist.

Perchlorate interferes with the thyroid and can contaminate water supplies. Pine Beetles are a concern because they are decimating the tree population in that area. Trees killed by bug infestations are sitting tindersticks and with thousands of pounds of explosives going off perhaps they don't want to burn the forest down. Does that clear things up for you or do you still want to keep blaming Obama for every problem you see?

I'm trying to think of a really good reason to have the fireworks show there, but I'm coming up short. The mountain is not large and is surrounded by not very dense pine forest on rocky ground, about the only vegetation visible on satellite photos. July is one of the hottest (85-100°), driest months (less than 0.02"/day) n the area, with wind speeds usually above 10 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.

So, would I recommend having fireworks in, say, the Pocomoke State Forest during a burn ban? Probably not.
